Days of Living with My Sister-in-Law-Chapter 39: How about a bet?
"Who’s cursing you?" Chen Xiaobei said, his legs crossed casually. "Since childhood, I’ve mastered a wealth of knowledge, both ancient and modern. From astronomy to geography, from Mystical Gates and Hidden Stems to the medical arts of all ages, there isn’t a single thing I’m not an expert in. If it weren’t for the fact that we’re old acquaintances, I wouldn’t even bother to warn you."
From the passenger seat, Luo Wentian asked curiously, "Qingcheng, you and Mr. Chen knew each other before this?"
"Grandpa, don’t listen to his nonsense! We’ve never even met!" Luo Qingcheng was so furious she felt her chest would burst, her pretty face flushing crimson.
What "old acquaintance"? Isn’t it just about that time he kissed me in the shack? How could I possibly bring something like that up?
"Oh?" Luo Wentian’s face lit up with delight. How could he not see the little secret in his granddaughter’s heart? Chen Xiaobei had saved his life and had even deduced from his medical condition that he was a former martial artist. Although Chen Xiaobei looked scruffy, he was clearly an extraordinary man. Frankly, Luo Wentian had a very good impression of him.
Meanwhile, his granddaughter, Luo Qingcheng, was already twenty-five. With her headstrong personality, she’d never managed to find a boyfriend. Seeing her so flustered before Chen Xiaobei, Luo Wentian was inwardly ecstatic. If the two of them could truly spark a romance, it would fulfill one of his deepest wishes.
So, Luo Wentian said with a note of displeasure, "Qingcheng, Mr. Chen is a remarkable man. If he says you’re headed for misfortune, it’s probably not baseless. You should listen to what he has to say, lest you regret it when something actually happens!"
"Grandpa!" Luo Qingcheng was speechless, unable to understand why her grandfather was so taken with Chen Xiaobei. Turning her head, she said petulantly, "Alright, then. Tell me, how exactly am I going to be unlucky?"
She took the bait? Chen Xiaobei nearly burst out laughing.
I don’t actually know any fortune-telling. I just know she’s holding a promotional event tomorrow to completely crush Zhao Caixia. But now, I’ve partnered with Zhao Caixia. It’s no exaggeration to say that Emperor Watermelon isn’t a product of this world. No matter what kind of promotion she runs, it’s useless. Her only possible outcome is a crushing defeat.
Chen Xiaobei cleared his throat. "Miss Luo, are you perhaps planning a large-scale event soon?"
"An event?" Luo Qingcheng nodded. "If you mean an event, I suppose it would be the promotional event tomorrow. You don’t actually think I’ll run into misfortune at my own promotion, do you?"
"Precisely!" Chen Xiaobei declared. "Last night, I was observing the celestial phenomena. I saw that the Zichen star was askew to the west and the Emperor Star was afflicted by the Seven Calamities. And right now, the space between your eyebrows is dark with shadow, which perfectly aligns with last night’s stellar signs. Tying this to your promotional event tomorrow, it will definitely bring you misfortune!"
"Right. Keep bluffing." Luo Qingcheng shot him a disdainful look. "Chen Xiaobei, if it were about anything else, I might have believed you. But on this matter, you’ve only proven that you’re a fraud."
"Why is that?"
"You have to ask why?" Luo Qingcheng’s face was a mask of pride. "First of all, my business management skills are leagues beyond anything Zhao Caixia could ever match. Furthermore, the content of my promotional event alone is guaranteed to blow everyone’s minds."
With that, she showed Chen Xiaobei a series of photos of fruit on her phone.
"These are all top-grade tropical fruits I’ve imported from Southeast Asia. I will be selling them to the local community at a price eighty percent below the market rate! At the same time, based on each customer’s total spending for the day, I’ll be giving out membership cards with varying credit amounts. This will completely bind these customers to my supermarket."
Luo Qingcheng puffed out her chest, challenging him haughtily, "Chen Xiaobei, with this series of moves, tell me, how can Zhao Caixia possibly compete with me? In the five years I’ve been in business, I, Luo Qingcheng, have never lost. Especially not to an amateur who knows nothing about business management!"
Even Luo Wentian voiced his doubts. "Er, Mr. Chen, my granddaughter might be a bit hot-tempered, but her management skills are not to be underestimated. Are you certain there will really be a mishap at this promotional event?"
"Grandpa! Don’t listen to his nonsense! He’s just a liar!" Luo Qingcheng said, her eyes brimming with smug confidence.
Yet Chen Xiaobei remained as calm as ever and chuckled. "Since Miss Luo is so confident, why don’t we make a bet?"
"What do you want to bet?" Luo Qingcheng’s interest was piqued.
"Let’s bet that your promotional event tomorrow will be utterly crushed by Zhao Caixia!" 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
"Fine!" Luo Qingcheng snapped, instantly taking the bait. "If I win, you’ll not only have to formally apologize, but you’ll also have to return the one million you tricked out of me! So, do you dare?"
"No problem," Chen Xiaobei said, a playful look in his eyes. "But what if you lose?"
His eyes narrowed lecherously, full of wicked intent. Luo Qingcheng suddenly felt that Chen Xiaobei was absolutely certain he had her trapped. But her pride wouldn’t allow for second thoughts, especially when her opponent was the amateurish Zhao Caixia. Luo Qingcheng simply couldn’t believe she would lose!
Thus, she said fiercely, "You can name any condition you want!"
"Alright, then." Chen Xiaobei leaned in and whispered in her ear, "My condition is very simple. If you lose..."
As he finished, Luo Qingcheng’s beautiful face turned beet-red, all the way down to her neck. Her delicate body began to tremble uncontrollably.
"Chen! Xiao! Bei! I’ll kill you!" she shrieked, lunging at him with her nails bared.
"Hey, hey, hey!" Chen Xiaobei exclaimed, quickly raising a hand to block her. "You just said I could name any condition. Why are you backing out now? Have you no integrity?"
"Shut up! Just shut up!" Luo Qingcheng was mortified, on the verge of tears from anger and shame.
That bastard... He actually had the gall to say, "If you lose, this young master gets to screw you hard." So blunt! So utterly shameless!
Although she was the type to be outwardly cold but inwardly passionate, and even secretly indulged herself, she was still a virgin. When had she ever heard such predatory words?
But she was no match for Chen Xiaobei. Her attack was useless; he caught her wrist in an instant, and she couldn’t pull free no matter how hard she struggled.
In the passenger seat, watching his granddaughter’s flustered and defeated expression, Luo Wentian’s old face bloomed into a wide grin. Luo Qingcheng had a difficult temper ever since she was a child, and no one in the family could ever manage her. He never imagined that Chen Xiaobei would put her so thoroughly in her place. And the way she looked, a mix of bashfulness and fury—it was exactly how young people flirted and bickered.
Seeing this, Luo Wentian was deeply gratified.
"Qingcheng," he chimed in with a displeased hum, "as businesspeople, we must be honest and trustworthy. You must honor your bets. Since you agreed Mr. Chen could set any condition, you must uphold the contract. Otherwise, you’ll tarnish the Luo Family’s reputation."
"Grandpa!" Luo Qingcheng was about to explode. "You have no idea what he said!" she protested in frustration. "Can you please not interfere?"
"Whatever it is, a contract must be honored." As a man of the world, Luo Wentian could guess, but he didn’t care in the slightest. He had a feeling this Chen Xiaobei was no ordinary person. His miraculous medical skills alone made him someone worth building a connection with. If his granddaughter could end up with him, it would be a double blessing!
Just then, Luo Wentian noticed that the scenery outside seemed completely different from the way they had come.
"Jiang Feng, this road... it doesn’t seem like the one we took earlier, does it?"
Even Luo Qingcheng realized something was wrong.
Jiang Feng suddenly stopped the car and smiled. "Master, you’re right. This is indeed not the road we took before."
"I don’t know what it’s called, but I do know this: it’s your road to hell!"
SWOOSH!
The moment he finished speaking, more than a dozen masked figures swarmed out and surrounded the Bentley.
