Days of Dungeon: From Simple Quest to Strange Adventure-Chapter 139: Aiden Town - Part 3
"Strip off and just show it to me already, Mr. Arezu!"
"At least mind your words, Lynn!"
Strip off the lies and show your skill to me already.
That was what Lynn was supposed to mean, but to the ears of their pursuers—who finally caught up to them at that moment—they would, of course, misunderstand the situation and the relationship between Lynn and Arezu.
"Pfft—Hahaha!"
"I guess we caught them at the wrong time."
"We're not interrupting, are we?"
Three wolf-kin—two females with gray wolf ears and tails and one male with black ones—wearing light leather the same color as their fur.
They weren't carrying any weapons, but that didn't make them any less dangerous, since for beastkin, their claws and fangs were all the weapons they needed.
"A human mage girl with platinum blonde hair—that's her, right?"
"That outfit of a white blazer over a black skirt and a black robe—she's definitely an adventurer mage."
The two female wolf-kin easily recognized Lynn from the description on her wanted poster. The male one, however, was still trying to remember where he had seen the warrior adventurer together with their prey.
They slowly surrounded Lynn and Arezu, confident that they not only outnumbered them but also had the advantage in physical strength and senses in the dimly lit surroundings, illuminated only by the flickering campfire—or so they thought, until they felt a terrifying, dangerous aura that froze them in place.
"Please calm down, Lynn."
Sitting beside her around the campfire, Arezu was the one exposed the most to Lynn's rageful aura. Even he still felt scared whenever Lynn released so much hatred and animosity, whether intentionally to show hostility or simply to scare those she found annoying.
Luckily, this time, it was the latter.
"Get lost now, or I will kill the three of you for the crime of disturbing our night."
Arezu at least knew that Lynn wasn't serious about killing their pursuers. Her anger was definitely real, though, making her threat more than a half-baked bluff.
The three wolf-kin slowly began to back away, having second thoughts about hunting prey more than they could handle, as they now realized that the danger of the bounty on Lynn's head was as high as the reward.
What Lynn said next, however, antagonized them beyond enraged.
"Run away with your tails between your legs like scared little pups."
Do you really have to insult them like that? Arezu sighed, glancing at Lynn's mocking sneer curving on her lips as she looked down at the three wolf-kin.
"Don't you dare mock us, you lowly human!"
"We'll show you what happens to those who look down on us!"
The two female wolf-kin rushed at Lynn, baring their claws and fangs.
"Wait—both of you!"
The third wolf-kin tried to stop the other two, not because he was still scared of Lynn, but because he had finally remembered where he had seen Arezu.
Even though it was broken, with its axe blade missing, the halberd-axe that Arezu wielded as he stepped in front to protect Lynn reminded the wolf-kin of the human adventurer who once fought all the beastkin who wanted to join the gold-rank adventurer party of Aiden Alfa—the warrior recognized not only by the strongest of their clans but by the Beast Lord herself.
The two female wolf-kin halted their charge upon hearing their alpha's warning, looking back at him in confusion and letting their guard down as they took their eyes off Lynn—which was the moment she had been waiting for.
"Iron Chain"
Multiple iron chains rose from the ground as Lynn cast her mystic spell, restraining the three wolf-kin—ankles, legs, waists, wrists, arms, and necks bound.
"Just like a chained bea—Umm!"
Arezu quickly stopped Lynn from making fun of their pursuers and antagonizing them even further. His right hand covered her lips as he looked her in the eyes, silently scolding her.
"Hmph!"
Only when Lynn avoided his gaze, huffing in annoyance yet agreeing to his request to stop her mischief, did Arezu remove his hand, revealing her pouting face.
"What are we going to do about them, Lynn?"
"We're going to kill them, of course. That's what wanted criminals do to their pursuers, Mr. Arezu."
Lynn's rageful aura, combined with her blunt threat, didn't fail to scare the two female wolf-kin and, at the same time, earned her a light smack on the head as Arezu scolded her to stop her mischief.
Following Lynn's instruction, Arezu gathered the three wolf-kin into a single spot beside the campfire. Then she cast her Obelisk mystic spell, invoking a cage made of metal-hard, blackened spikes.
"Won't your mystic spell deactivate once you fall asleep, Lynn?"
"Who are you calling a third-rate mage, Mr. Arezu?" Lynn said, looking at him in disbelief.
As an extra precaution to ensure their pursuers wouldn't cause any more trouble for the night, Lynn drenched them with sleeping potions taken from her enchanted storage pouch.
The instant the three wolf-kin fell asleep, Lynn and Arezu climbed onto the makeshift platform atop the tree branches—not to take turns sleeping, but to continue where they had been interrupted.
"Strip off—"
"I know, I know..."
Arezu cut Lynn's misleading words short then asked for another monster core to grant her request and put an end to her nagging—or so he thought.
Absorbing one monster core wasn't enough for a demonstration; a dozen nearly satisfied her, and Lynn only truly got satisfied after Arezu absorbed all the kobold and werewolf monster cores—but her nagging still didn't end there.
"How does it work, Mr. Arezu?! Is it because of your different mana flow?! Can you absorb any rank of monster cores?! How are you not affected by the curse within them?!"
Lynn continued to fire off a barrage of nonstop questions without caring whether Arezu would respond or tell her the truth. Her curiosity overwhelmed her; what mattered was saying what she wanted to know.
Arezu remained quiet—not because he didn't want to respond or wasn't ready yet, but simply because he himself didn't completely understand how his ability worked. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Regardless, watching Lynn cheerfully get excited while continuing her nagging in the middle of the night wasn't exactly annoying, making him respond with a faint yet satisfied smile.
"Say something, Mr. Arezu!"
"If you're not going to sleep first, then I will, Lynn."
"Don't sleep on me yet! At least try to explain it, even for a bit!"
---
Right before dawn, even before the first light of the twilight horizon illuminated the still-dark forest:
—ROAARRR!—
"GYAHHH!"
"GAHHH!"
The loud roars of several chimeras woke the three wolf-kin, causing them to scream in panic.
"What? Don't tell me you can't defeat a few mid-level monsters?" Lynn said, catching their attention as they looked up at the treetop.
"Once we're far enough, my mystic spell will deactivate. You can handle the rest. But let me be clear—there won't be a second chance if you dare follow us again."
"Let's go, Lynn."
