Chapter 4357 - 3450: Midnight Sons (12)_2
"We should restrain Johnny first," Danny said, "He's been working for Mephisto."
"Why do I feel like you're targeting Johnny, not Mephisto?" Miles frowned and said, "If your target is just some demon's deputy, you shouldn't act like you're ready to wage war on Hell tomorrow. That way, maybe S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Supreme Sorcerer will choose to help you."
Danny was obviously at a loss for words. But at that moment, Moon Knight suddenly swung his staff, and the power brewing at the center of the crescent moon burst out instantly, striking Danny and causing him to fly back.
Stark and Miles were stunned, but right after, Stark noticed something flying out of Danny's body.
An ethereal shadow let out a shriek, and everyone else felt like their brains were hit by something, caught off guard.
Moon Knight swung his staff again, enshrouding the shadow in moonlight. The shadow fled hastily, and Moon Knight appeared again from within the moonlight, thrusting his staff forcefully into the ground.
Buzz—
An invisible wave of energy rippled out, and the moon hanging above the fountain shone brighter. By the moonlight, Stark saw that the faint shadow was a floating ghost.
Stark instinctively stepped back.
"Don't be afraid, sir, that's not a ghost," JARVIS said, "It's some kind of energy being, likely a mutated brainwave after a person has died."
"Isn't that just a ghost?!"
"This is the scientific explanation."
Moon Knight extended his staff, and the moonlight transformed into numerous slender tendrils, tightly binding the ghost and pulling it down.
"Who are you?" Moon Knight asked.
"Let me go, you damn devil!" The ghost struggled incessantly. As it was pulled closer, Stark saw that it seemed to be a woman, somewhat elderly, dressed like a modern person.
Stark went over to check on the unconscious Danny, and JARVIS scanned him, finding nothing amiss. Stark patted him awake.
Once Danny awoke, he seemed dazed. Upon seeing the floating figure, he struggled to get up and said, "Mom, are you okay? Please let her go, she's my mom!"
"Lady Francis," Moon Knight called out the name.
The woman turned to look at him, but beneath the hood was emptiness, as if only light supported the cloak.
"How do you know my name?"
"He can foretell," Miles chimed in. Stark glared at him secretly, as he also wanted to jump in.
"Alright, but that's no excuse for treating a lady so rudely. Now, let me go."
Moon Knight withdrew his staff but did not release the bindings. He stood silently, watching Lady Francis, and after a long pause, he said, "No one is allowed to intrude into the realm of moonlight without my permission."
"You all love to talk big..."
Before Lady Francis could finish her sentence, Moon Knight tapped the ground with his staff again.
The next second, the moonlight outside the window abruptly dimmed, and when everyone looked out, the moon over New York City had vanished.
In a daze, the moonlight returned to normal. JARVIS told Stark in his earpiece, "The moon over New York did indeed disappear just now, but the Celestial Moon didn't. He must have obscured the moon's reflection, rendering it temporarily unobservable."
Miles was astonished by this display as well. Danny hurriedly said to Lady Francis, "Mom, don't do this. Moon Knight is strong. He's the envoy of the Moon God. The Goddess said he's reliable..."
"Goddess?" Stark fixated on him and asked, "Which goddess?"
Danny fell silent. Lady Francis said, "I came here just to remind you, don't trust Mephisto and his agents. They're plotting to overthrow Hell."
"What does that have to do with you?" Miles asked bluntly.
"If Mephisto gains control of Hell, it will be a catastrophe for Earth!" Lady Francis raised her voice.
"You mean, he could break Earth's magical defense network despite The Ancient One's resistance, ignore interference from Asgard, the Time Management Bureau, or Battleworld, effortlessly annihilate all mages at Kamar-Taj and The Avengers, and disregard the opinions of cosmic administrators like Eternity, to completely destroy Earth?"
After Stark finished speaking, JARVIS said, "Doctor Schiller once told me you have a low emotional quotient. I don't agree with him, but I still believe in leaving some room in conversation, so as not to embarrass the other party into anger."
Lady Francis was clearly stuck. Danny anxiously said, "Even if he can't completely destroy Earth, he would certainly cause a disaster, leading to the deaths of many innocents. Like this time, we have to stop him!"
"The problem comes back to the beginning," Miles said, looking at Danny, "How are you going to stop him? Even if we control Johnny, it won't pose a threat to Mephisto, will it?"
"I think we should first form a team," Danny said, "specifically to deal with Mephisto, we could also handle magical matters."
"Handling magical matters can be done at the New York Temple, and the Supreme Sorcerer is also in New York," Miles said, "Do you think you're stronger than the Supreme Sorcerer?"
"He can't be everywhere," Danny said, "He can't watch every corner of New York, while we can handle the issues he hasn't noticed."
Miles nodded and said, "Alright, that's a reason. The Supreme Sorcerer is indeed busy; he probably doesn't want to deal with this."
"Then we should form a team," Stark said, pointing around at everyone, "Just us."
"No way!" Danny exclaimed, "These people are not suitable. You can't use magic; guns and cannons can't deal with Mephisto."
"Did I defeat monsters using guns and cannons?" Stark said impatiently, "Kid, I have to remind you, this isn't your squad to form, and you won't be the leader. If you want to join, stay, if not, get lost. Understand?"
"You... aren't superheroes supposed to unite and cooperate?"
"It seems you are the one unwilling to unite," Miles reminded, "We're not the ideal candidates for you, but I can tell you, even if you find your ideal candidates, you'd never gain leadership in their team. Do you expect the Supreme Sorcerer to listen to you?"
"Is he trying to enlist Steven in the team?" Stark was taken aback again, looking Danny up and down, "I sincerely ask, if you and Steven were in the same team, what would your role be?"
"Enough," Moon Knight finally spoke. He swung his staff and said, "There's no point in arguing, let's leave here."

Accompanied by the descent of moonlight, everyone except Moon Knight appeared in an alley. They knew today was not the day to conclude discussions, so they had to disperse.
In the reception room, Shiller took off his hood, tossed the long wand aside, and yawned, saying, "Being a superhero isn't so hard."
As he turned around, he saw Khonsu slumped in the corner, the flames in the eye sockets of the terrifying giant falcon head were barely flickering, his roars echoing in the palace.
"Of course, it wasn't hard for you... 'cause I did all the damn work!!!"
