Chapter 563: Water Fight. (Part Three)

A few days ago, Dante received info from Harry about another one of Black Skull’s lieutenants. Krueger handled the gang’s inventory and acquired everything for them, and that included all the children found in Jason’s doll houses. That was when he learned about Captain Ahab, and as soon as he did, Dante knew he would have to eliminate him.

The old seafarer was one of the most famous smugglers in the world. His entire business was built on using the sea to move things between continents, and with how successful his deliveries had been, it was easy for him to make a name for himself in the underworld. He had been the go to option for human traffickers.

Was it luck that allowed him to stay in business for this long? Obviously not.

’Damn it...’

Accelerating his perception further, Dante quickly raised his legs and stood on his arms. Two harpoons pierced the spot he had been standing on, and a third grazed his arm, carving a shallow line on the surface of his armor. Tossing himself in the air, Dante spotted the source of the pointy weapons—the sailors.

Dante was sure the bastards didn’t have any weapons on them. They had to abandon ship when he tossed it on the dock, leaving them no time to grab anything. It occurred to him just then that they didn’t have to. The bastards were Sorcerers, after all.

Though he considered Genomes and heroes his mortal enemies, Dante felt that he had been having more trouble with Sorcerers for a while now. He decided to take out Ahab, and the next thing he learned was that the old bastard was the head of a small clan called the White Whale. It only made sense for his crew to not only survive the ship crash but also the detonation of the Level 4 Aqua Mines.

At the moment, the bastards were focused on providing support with their harpoons, which they retracted after every shot using a spell of some kind. Each of those spears was a deadly weapon on its own, but they were nothing compared to what the captain was throwing at him.

Several serpents slithered through the air, their speed catching up to Dante’s. Try as he might, there was no evading them, so he did the next best thing and cut them using Aqua Edge. The creatures seemed to lose their shape for an instant before scattering in a splash. The material they were created from confused Dante, but not for long.

Turning to their source, Dante took off running. Ahab raised his hand, and droplets of water gathered in his palm, quickly forming a sphere of water. Taking a long puff from his pipe, he then leaned toward the sphere and blew on it, releasing the smoke inside it. As the white wisps mixed with the clear water, the sphere changed shape, turning into aquatic monsters the likes of which didn’t exist in reality.

Looking from afar, it felt as if the creatures came to life and immediately locked onto Dante. They shot off at unimaginable speed, their jaws spreading in preparation for digging their fangs into his limbs. The smaller monster fish were intended to restrain him while the large shark tried to bite a chunk out of him. Even while donning a Level 4 armor, Dante wasn’t too sure it would protect him forever.

There were the pseudo-Genomes to worry about as well. Another five had joined the fight after he disposed of the last group, and the abilities they used were starting to get on his nerves.

’Mist Veil!’

Torrents of mist scattered from his surroundings, combining with the darkness to erase what little vision the enemy had. Before they could find a way around it, Dante rushed to dispose of the most dangerous individual among them, only to find him readying another one of his monsters.

Hidden in the must, Dante kept a low posture and drew his aquatic blades. Absolute Awareness allowed him to see the enemy, and so he evaded everyone he deemed unnecessary to engage, circling around the captain and closing in on him.

No sooner did he enter a certain range than Ahab’s biggest construct moved again, swinging its tentacles at him like a bunch of whips. As it turned out, impaired sight was no problem for a creature with no eyes. The tentacles were on autopilot, attacking the enemy when they got close. That revealed his position to the caster, and Ahab moved right away to take advantage of that.

The sphere in his hand split into three, each ballooning in size before morphing into sharks with long pointy noses no different from the harpoons the sailors had been throwing.

With a flick of their tails, the sharks exploded forward like a salvo of missiles, blowing holes into the mist veil. Their speed far exceeded Dante’s, and if he didn’t have a counter prepared, he could have been impaled before he knew it.

Maybe because they were infused with the enemy’s Aether, but the white monsters weren’t affected by Dante’s Hydrokinesis. That didn’t mean something else wouldn’t work. Sparing a glance at the energy counter in the corner of his vision, Dante activated 2-4’s main ability.

An invisible wave spread out from his blue armor, and as it washed over the aquatic monsters, a layer of ice formed over their surface, then quickly sank deeper. In a fraction of a second, each one turned into a statue. The frozen sharks collided with the Aqua Prison Dante formed around himself.

With the mist scattered, Ahab was able to see it all happen, and his wide-open eyes told Dante that he hadn’t expected it to happen. With only a few meters separating them, the captain commanded his tentacles to attack. Once again, Dante evaded them with ease, unleashing Cryokinesis once more to freeze them so they would shatter upon hitting the floor.

As the sound of shattering glass scattered into the surroundings, Dante raised his right arm, a translucent blade extending from its side, and brought it down on the old man. His clothes offered no resistance, and the same went for his body. As red blood sprayed from the wound, Dante felt that something was very off about the blow he had just landed.
