Chapter 46: That Hurt

The Goblin General, wasted no time, attacking with a full-powered swing. The dagger ripped through the air like it was tearing through fabric. It was fast, explosive, destructive.

Zane’s eyes stayed pinned on that dagger. He dodged low; the blade went just above him, cutting the top of his hair. He looked up immediately after and lunged forward. He leaped into the air and stabbed at full speed.

The goblin used its arm and blocked the attack. Sparks flew as the blade scraped along the metal of the armor.

The goblin pulled back its arm with the dagger and attacked again, thrusting at full speed. Zane spun and dodged the attack. He immediately retreated a few steps.

Grey stood there. Despite the instructions Zane gave him, he was unable to move. In that short exchange they had, he didn’t see even an opening to attack.

"Grey, stand back. Don’t worry about it," Zane said. There was a reason players didn’t enter the boss room anyhow. The boss of the first floor was probably the average monster on the seventh to tenth floor most of the time. It was only normal that Grey couldn’t handle something like that yet.

The goblin wasn’t interested in allowing Zane rest. It lunged forward, every step shaking the ground. It viciously swung from above.

Zane dodged to the side fast. He kicked the arm of the goblin out of the way, then lunged forward again.

"You are strong. Let’s see how you do with me going all out," Zane said. He activated his martial arts, doubling his speed in an instant. He leaped into the air, allowing himself to be an open target for the goblin.

It looked up at Zane, seeing him as open for an attack, so it swung at full force. Zane smiled. He used his dagger at the right moment, parrying the blade and then lunging forward at the shoulder.

Stab

The dagger dug deep in between the gaps of the armor, and blood shot out like a fountain.

Roarrrrrr

The goblin roared in pain. It tried to pry Zane off, but Zane had already pulled the dagger out and retreated. He landed a few meters away and watched the goblin fume in pain.

He rolled the dagger around his finger and then caught it in a reverse grip. He looked at Grey. "Hey, toss over that gauntlet," he said. Grey immediately pulled it off and threw it at Zane. Zane only needed to touch it for it to equip.

He looked at the goblin with a smile. "Come at me with your best," he said.

The goblin, who was still in pain, seemed to understand Zane. It pulled the cleaver from its back, now wielding two weapons in hand.

It lunged forward again, swinging fast and powerfully with the cleaver. Zane pulled back and dodged. He leaped backward while on his tiptoes.

He watched the attacks closely and dodged at just the right moment. The Goblin General saw that Zane was toying with him, so he decided to attack with even more force. It raised both weapons into the air, its muscles bulged under the armor, and then it stabbed down.

Zane pulled back, dodging the obvious attack, but the blades stabbed into the ground and caused an unexpected shockwave that slammed into him and threw him into a wall.

The goblin came rushing immediately as he hit the wall. Zane shook his head to clear it. He locked eyes with the goblin at the last moment. It swung at him full force, and he parried quickly. The cleaver slid off the side of his gauntlet and cut into the wall, getting stuck.

Before the goblin could try to pull it out, Zane attacked. He stabbed into the arm of the goblin, causing it more pain. It pulled out the cleaver from the wall and slashed down, but Zane got out of there fast. He pulled out his dagger and attacked from behind, stabbing into the back of the goblin.

It let out another deafening roar and turned around with a swing. Zane retreated back again. He got into his stance, dagger in front in a reverse grip and his legs slightly spread apart.

The eyes of the Goblin General glowed red. The rage in them couldn’t be hidden. His dagger and cleaver started releasing a dark aura. He sharpened them against each other in a slow manner, sparks flying as he did.

Then with a roar, it charged in again, this time faster. It swung with all its strength, and Zane blocked it, only to be knocked back a few steps. He was stunned. Where did all that strength come from?

But there was no time to think as the dagger was already coming for him with a powerful stab. Zane reacted as fast as he could and parried it, only for the cleaver to come from above.

It dug into Zane’s shoulder, blood splattering all around.

"Master!" Grey yelled.

Zane gritted his teeth. Blood dropped from his body. The pain was immense.

"Arghhhhhhh!" Zane yelled. He pulled back. The cleaver sliced deeper as it came out, but he managed to remove it from his body.

The goblin attacked immediately after, but Zane dodged this time. He put some distance between them.

’That hurt. It hurt a lot. Fuck!’ Zane thought. He gritted his teeth, trying to overcome the pain. He could already feel the injury healing on its own, but that didn’t make it any better.

"That attack would have normally decided a fight. Taking a slash to the shoulder like that... I was reckless," Zane said, his eyes glowing red. "I’ll not be careless anymore," he said before lunging forward again.

The goblin roared and attacked. After landing that attack, its confidence got a boost. Zane waited until the last moment, the very point where the goblin couldn’t stop the attack, and then he dodged.

He lifted up, stabbing his dagger upward. The goblin couldn’t protect itself at that moment. It dug into its jaw and went upward toward its head, but the skull was crazy thick, and he didn’t reach the brain.
