Cultivating through increasing my stats in America-Chapter 50 - Challenging the Limits
Chapter 50: Chapter 50: Challenging the Limits
Chapter 50: Chapter 50: Challenging the Limits
“Let’s start with 50kg.”
Li Ang had attempted 60kg last time, which was roughly the same as his weight at that time; he managed to lift it but with some difficulty.
In the past few days, his weight had increased again, so warming up with 50kg shouldn’t be a problem.
Blair raised an eyebrow, remembering Li Ang’s performance from last time. 50kg was manageable for him, but using it for a warm-up was still a bit aggressive.
Li Ang quickly lay down on the bench press, and soon the 50kg barbell moved smoothly over his body, back and forth several times.
“Wow, six high-quality reps completed, pretty impressive, 50kg seems quite easy for you.”
Blair couldn’t help but give Li Ang a thumbs-up.
Next up was 60kg, which was his limit weight from the last time.
But Li Ang still completed six reps smoothly.
Blair was already somewhat surprised. It seemed that Li Ang’s claim of training every day was completely true.
In fact, he had been able to do a set with 60kg the second time he came over with Charles.
The only difference was, last time he was exhausted after six reps, but this time he felt like he still had some energy left.
The next challenge was 70kg, which, according to Blair’s estimate, should be his limit weight.
Actually, for training weights in this area, there is a fairly authoritative chart.
If you can do a maximum of six reps with a certain weight, then according to the chart, that weight is 85% of your limit weight.
If you can do at most four reps, then the weight is 90% of your limit weight, and so on, three reps for 93%, two reps for 95%.
However, Blair didn’t know that this number was not Li Ang’s limit, so the weight wasn’t either.
For the 70kg weight, Blair assisted very carefully, as trying to hit a limit weight can easily lead to a muscle strain if not careful.
“One rep, good, you did it. Oh? Is there a second rep?”
“Come on! The third rep now.”
“Four reps!”
Li Ang almost felt completely drained.
The final challenge was 80kg, and with all his might, he still completed a standard bench press.
“You’re really incredible, you know? You’re the fastest progressing trainee I’ve ever seen.”

Blair clapped and praised him at the same time.
Li Ang couldn’t help but smile too; he was quite satisfied with his achievement.
He had just measured, and his weight had risen to 62kg, and his height had increased by 1cm, reaching 176.
Such a physique was still somewhat thin, but no longer frail-looking; instead, it conveyed a lean appearance.
Being able to bench press 80kg, within a general gym, would definitely be considered an upper-tier level.
Then Li Ang watched as Blair directly added weight to 100kg and began to demonstrate bench press sets for him.
“You need to adjust the angle of your arms a bit more right here; this way, it will have a better training effect on your chest muscles.”
While pushing the 100kg barbell, Blair explained to Li Ang.
Watching that burly figure, Li Ang put aside some of the pride he had just felt.
Narrowing the gap in physical size is a great challenge, which also means he couldn’t afford to be complacent.
Blair showing off his bench press weight was not really intended to discourage Li Ang; in fact, it was just a bit of mischief on his part.
Of course, for those who make rapid progress, this can also serve as a sort of spur.
Back when he himself weighed a bit over 60kg, he couldn’t even do an 80kg bench press.
But that weight of over 60kg probably dates back to his elementary school days.
Under Blair’s guidance and assistance, Li Ang completed his bench press training plan in the way that best suited his body.
“Actually, I might be even better at deep squats.”
Blair directly added the weight on the barbell to 200kg, almost using up all the weight plates nearby.
Most people might not have a solid concept of what a 200kg deep squat means, but just think, the Olympic weightlifting champion, dubbed the “God of Soldiers,” Lu Xiaojun, has a squat weight of around 275kg.
He took a deep breath, the veins on his neck bulging, as he demonstrated a perfect deep squat to Li Ang.
“For you beginners, squatting to train legs is probably the most painful exercise, but don’t worry, after a few years of training experience, you’ll find that squats are still the damn most painful activity, haha.”
Blair made a cold joke, and before Li Ang could even begin to laugh, Blair himself was laughing so hard he couldn’t straighten up.
He enjoyed interacting with young people, saying that it made him feel the vitality of life.
“Can I feel the weight?”
Li Ang looked at the 200kg barbell on the squat rack, feeling a surge of emotion.
“You can try.”
Blair said, spreading his hands open.
At this weight, he was actually less worried that Li Ang would encounter any danger, because in his judgment, Li Ang wasn’t yet capable of lifting the barbell off the squat rack.
But to be on the safe side, he still stood a bit closer.
Li Ang stood under the rack, flashed Blair a brilliant smile, and then said:
“Actually, I have some insights about leg strength too.”
Having said that, Li Ang mimicked Blair’s earlier movements, adjusted his breathing, and then with a deep roar, lifted the 200kg barbell onto his shoulders.
Although the pain in his shoulders compared to before was by no means lessened, having undergone Sideways Training Martial Arts, Li Ang was now fully able to withstand this kind of pain.
Getting stronger through training is a process of breaking and standing anew, and many times, what people need is just a bit of courage.
“Warder?”
Blair looked more surprised than the first time he caught a 40kg fish in the river.
He quickly reached out his hands to spot Li Ang.
“This is crazy, Li.”
While he was speaking, Li Ang had already squatted down.
This weight was a bit reckless for him, but it was only after he upgraded [Cycling] to Grandmaster Level that his lower body strength increased by 60%, or else he would have been flat on the ground during the squat.
“Come on! You can stand up, go for it!”
Attracted by Blair’s shouting, almost everyone in the gym stopped their training and gathered around to watch.
Only when they counted the weight on the barbell did they realize that their status in this gym might be about to drop.
“Up!”
Li Ang shouted loudly, his cheeks flushed as if he had drunk half a bottle of strong liquor, even his nostrils bleeding from the strain as he rose.
The reason he strained himself to complete the squat was not to show off his capabilities, but because he realized that when challenging his limits, he seemed to experience again the feeling he had when winning the championship and fighting against the strong opponent.
Now it seemed, this might be his chance to earn another set of Breakthrough Points.
