Chapter 222: Unwanted visitor

Genny did look back. She wouldn’t dare. Her grip on Alora’s hand tightened as everything ran through her mind.

Joey couldn’t find out not like this. She could still remember that night under the rain, he came to her place. She was confused to see a drenched Joey standing in front of her building.

He was heartbroken over some girl searching for someone he could pour it on. It was ridiculous how she had kissed him and listened to him get drunk as he spoke about some girl called Amelia

"Don’t think about it, Genenieve," she whispered at her car door. Her fingers curling over the handle..

She felt a soft touch over her shoulders. Her head snapped back to meet Braelyn’s worried gaze..

"Are you alright?" Braelyn asked, her eyes narrowing on Genny. She could sense the nervous energy rolling off Genny.

Genny was stunned. She shook her head. "I am fine." She blurted, reaching for her bag to find her car keys. Her hands were secretly shaking. She hated how much running into that jerk was affecting her.

Braelyn arched a brow at Genny. She definitely wasn’t believing her. "Are you sure?" She asked Genny.

"Yes.." Genny sighed, still searching for the keys in her bag. Braelyn’s eyes narrowed on Genny.

Genny did not like the weight of her gaze pressing on her. "What are you searching for?" Braelyn quietly asked. Genny’s brows twitched

"The keys, what else..." she snapped and rummaged more aggressively in the bag. "I can’t find those god-forsaken keys." She grumbled.

Braelyn released a tired sigh. Her voice was calm with a questioning tone that made Genny free. "Genenieve, you are holding the keys in your left hand," Braelyn said as a matter of fact and Genny froze.

She glanced at her left hand, which was holding the bag. The key was indeed there.."fuck..." she cussed.

Braelyn crossed her arms staring keenly at Genny. Alora was standing between, clearly confused about the adults’ actions.

"You don’t look okay, Genny. You have been spacing out and you are clearly disoriented. " Braelyn stated. Genny froze, she felt a soft tug on her sleeves

She bent over to meet Alora’s blue eyes. Her heart squeezed again seeing how similar they looked. "Mummy.." Alora called softly..

Genny sighed reaching for her hair. "Yes dear.." Alora’s face turned serious. She said with a curious tone which still held a hint of naivety behind it

"You don’t look good, Mummy," Alora said carefully. Her mummy had been acting strange since they left bad Joey. Her face turned grim, realising bad Joey was the reason her mummy was upset.

’ He is really bad. Next time I see him I will bite him.’ Alora made a mental note that none of the adults were aware of

Genny was surprised that Alora noticed. Why wouldn’t the girl notice when Genny was holding her wrist so tightly it felt like it could snap any second?

Alora could feel the tension from her mummy. Her lips parted and her next words left Genny stunned. "Is it because of bad Joey?" She asked, leaving the adults dumbfounded.

Her face turned fierce seeing her mummy quiet. "We should go back and beat him together.." Alora was already heading back to the park. Brealyn grabbed her hair yanking her backwards

She was stunned by where this little being got all this confidence from. She felt sorry for Genny. Alora will be a pain as a teenager.

"Come back, soldier. We were heading back," Braelyn said in a serious tone. Alora protested. She was adamant about giving Joey a beat

The sun was already close to the horizon as evening drew closer, spreading an orange hue all over the sky. Alora was still struggling in Braelyn’s hold.

They were standing in the open-air car park close to the entrance. A lot of people could be seen trooping in and out.

Braelyn sighed. "Keys. You are in no state to drive.." she requested. Genny was hesitant at first, but seeing the seriousness in Braelyn’s eyes, she reluctantly gave her the key.

Braelyn felt the cold metal in her hand. Her fingers curled over the bundle. She opened the car and then tossed Alora inside. "That’s enough violence for one day. " she sternly scolded Alora. Alora sat up and then puffed her cheeks. Her little hands were crossed and tucked in her armpits.

"I was only trying to help," she said begrudgingly. Braelyn rolled her eyes then reached forward for the seat belt. Immediately Alora was properly tucked in, she closed the door.

She gave Genny a sharp glance. "With that temper. She might hurt someone one day," she muttered before walking over to the driver’s seat.

"She will grow out of it," Genny muttered before getting into the passenger’s seat. Braelyn got in and started the car. Her hands held the steering wheel firmly

"Are you with your driver’s license? Just in case we run into the police.." she inquired.

"It should be in my purse. "

Braelyn reversed out of the car park and soon they got on the main road heading back. Alora was angry for most of my ride, so she remained silent until she eventually fell asleep.

Braelyn glanced at Alora through the rear mirror." Is she asleep?" She asked. Genny glanced over to reach out for the little girl

"Yeah, she is pretty much knocked out already. " Genny replied. She turned back to the road and a silent beat passed between them.

Genny spoke first; her voice was barely a whisper. "Do you think he would take her?" She asked

Braelyn sighed then shook her head. "The Alvarez family might be powerful, but your family still has its influence; it won’t be easy, because he was the one who abandoned you ."

The words hung between them. "I am still scared, Brae," Genny admitted

"It’s fine to be scared. Everything will work out eventually. "

Alora was still fast asleep by the time they arrived. Genny didn’t want to wake her, so she carried Alora on her piggyback. The lift slid open and they silently walked down the corridor.

Braelyn and Genny stopped halfway noticing a hooded figure leaning on the way next to Genny’s door. From the demeanour, posture and body build she assumed it was Lucien but she couldn’t be sure because his face was hidden by the hoodie and he seemed lost in thoughts staring at the other end of the corridor

Her brows furrowed together. She cautiously took a step forward and hesitantly called..

"Lucien.." The man froze. His body stiffened. She asked again. "Why are you waiting here? You should have called."

The man released a deep sigh..his deep baritone followed. "I doubt you would have picked Lynn". Braelyn’s heart skipped a beat as she recognised that voice

He finally glanced her way with a soft smile. "Hi Lynn.."

"Raphael..." she blurted her heart was thudding fast.
