Craved by the Wrong Volkov-Chapter 189: Good bye
Braelyn’s POV
"I’m sorry, "
"Forgive me..."
"This world doesn’t need something broken..."
The cold night air whipped through my hair, the sky rumbled and it looked like it might rain any time.
My gaze locked on a figure, her slender frame was fragile and lonesome against the night sky...her shoulders trembled as she stood at the edge of the roof just staring at the sky, crying and repeating those words like a broken record.
" I am sorry...please forgive me." Her voice cracked then she added. "Please forgive me when I am gone."
My heart ached watching the figure. The wind whipped through her blonde hair which had a lot of grey strands from stress. Her hair looked unkempt. Her clothes were ruffled. She looked like a person who had lost her place in this world.
A roof tile cracked under my feet and she froze. Her head slowly glanced at me. Shock written over her face as those pair of clear emerald eyes stared back at me...
She could see me. Her lips darted, and in a trembling voice, she said a name. "Nadia.." she called out, and I froze. She thought I was Nadia.
I didn’t know what to say. .a smile graced her lips as she stared at me. I knew who she was; it was Avelina, but I didn’t understand what I was doing here with her.
Before any word could leave my lips, she beat me to it. "Can you finally forgive me now Nadia?" She said with a chilly calm tone.
"I am not Nadia..." I said, but it felt like I was talking to air. She shook her head. "I have carried this weight for so long, I hurt those around me...please." Her voice choked; tears welled up in her eyes.
"Let me die with my sin...please don’t hurt Braelyn and Dominic..I was the one who hurt you, Nadia." She explained, I didn’t understand what she was saying but my heart ached.
The wind howled and she released a tired sigh. The sky rumbled and rain started to drop slowly at first before it fell rapidly drenching us together
"Goodbye...." she muttered and before I could react she fell from the roof..my feet rushed towards her, I tried to catch her but my hand moved right through her
"Nooo .." I cried out and my entire body trembled.... 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
The rain swallowed my screams, and everything went blank.
My eyes shot open, the blinding lights from the window startled me. Cold sweats formed on my forehead, my heart was hammering fast in my chest..
Dazed I managed to sit up, my chest was still heaving as I managed to catch my breath. My eyes darted around the familiar bedroom, and confusion crowded my mind.
"It was just a dream," I muttered, placing my hand on my chest feeling my heart thumping under my palm.
I must have fallen asleep while reading last night, I didn’t remember when I went to bed. My gaze darted around the room until it fell on a jacket discarded on a chair close to the bed.
It was Lucien’s. My eyes went wide at the realisation that Lucien must be back. Fear cracked up my spine. The diary. Did he read it while I was asleep?
My eyes started to frantically search for the diary. I didn’t want him to know of the content not only because I was scared for him to know of my mother’s involvement in Nadia’s death.
But also because I felt the content was too private. I found the diary placed on the side drawer. There was no telling if he opened it or not.
My heart settled a bit because the entry Avelina wrote of his mother’s death wasn’t in that particular diary, although the contents were still unsettling.
I slipped out of bed and immediately grabbed the diary. After securing the diary in my suitcase I made my way towards the living room. From the corridor, I could perceive the aroma of something yummy.
My eyes lit up and I took a U-turn towards their kitchen the scene that welcomed me left me drooling
The sight of Lucien in just a pair of pyjama trousers and an apron, standing in front of the cooker, making breakfast. His muscles were on full display, combined with a domesticated look. It was a lethal combination
I stood at the door for a moment, just taking in the scene, letting my eyes wander around. Lucien glanced over his shoulder with a soft smile on his lips
"If you are done staring, come have breakfast," he chimed in a soft tone before his smile turned to a smirk. "Unless what you are craving isn’t food."
My face burned immediately. This pervert...ugh I couldn’t even find the right words to describe him but I still dragged my legs towards a stool by the centre aisle of the kitchen
"Good morning ." I hummed.
"Morning," he replied as he switched off the cooker and started to set the plate. His every movement was precise like he knew what he was doing.
"How was your night?" Lucien asked with his back against me. I froze for a moment before giving a casual reply.
"It was fine I guess. " I answered. "How about you?".
Lucien sighed, placing a plate of omelette before him. "It was a long night." He answered. I got off the stool to grab a bottle of orange juice. It was the only thing there. There wasn’t a lot of food in the apartment since we were staying for a short time.
"Rough night." I chirped
"You can say that."
I settled back on the stool after pouring a glass of juice for myself. Lucien took his side beside me. We were having egg omelette and bread for breakfast.
My gaze glanced at him shortly, noticing the dark circle under his eyes. He looked pretty exhausted. I was curious about his night but he didn’t look like he was willing to share.
He picked up his fork ready to start eating when he noticed I hadn’t touched my food
"Aren’t you going to eat?" He asked me. I shook my head then picked the spoon
A question lingered on the tip of my tongue, "Can I ask you a question?" Lucien was startled by my question. He gave me a quizzical look before muttering. "Sure.."
I nodded happily, he wasn’t shutting me down. "I want to ask. Even if the Volkovs weren’t involved in your mother’s death, will you seek revenge against them?" I asked him.
He froze and his gaze slowly turned to me. His eyes turned icy as he asked. "Why are you asking me that question?"
