Craved by the Wrong Volkov-Chapter 179: Doctor’s appointment
Braelyn’s POV
After the attic incidence I hadn’t gotten the chance to check the other diaries for various one being the fear of finding out what other secrets my family was hiding from me especially that strange picture
Another one is my schedule. Lucien and I had several meetings to finalise the corporation with Genesis Corporation. We agreed on a joint cooperation since Lucien couldn’t lose to Killian and vice versa. It was crazy that he was fighting himself.
Because of how full our schedules were, I barely had any free time when I was alone. There was no way I could read the diary in Lucien’s presence.
"We have arrived," the Uber driver informed us, snapping both of us back to reality. I was lost in my thoughts while Lucien was stuck on his phone.
I glanced out the window to see the large hospital. It was owned by the Voss family, the same family as Dominic Voss, the big shot involved in Amelia’s failed contract.
Dominic Voss, the name repeated in my head. Dominic was also Dad’s name. That was a coincidence.
Now I think about it, New Horizon might have easily stolen the corporation because of personal relationships with the Voss family. He was truly a sly bastard.
Lucien handled the Uber, and we stepped out."Let’s head in, the doctor is waiting," he urged me, and we proceeded up the steps to the main entrance.
We flew all the way to another city for this appointment. I was hesitant about it at first, but considering how much effort he put into getting this appointment, I decided to give it a chance.
We entered the reception and the scent of antiseptic and heavy cleaning agents assaulted my nose at once. I hated hospitals, the smell always made me nauseated
"Wait here. I will go make enquiries," he whispered next to my ear before heading towards the receptionist. The nurse at the reception smiled once she saw Lucien.
He had one of those teasing smiles that always scrambled the brains of his victims. I could deduce she was smitten by him at first glance. I couldn’t help but roll my eyes.
Lucien didn’t take long before he returned. He still had his smile on. "Doctor Scottfield is in her office." He informed me.
We headed towards the elevator together. The specialist I was going to meet was Melissa Scott, a renowned gynaecologist. The type of doctors you couldn’t casually get an appointment with.
Luckily the lift was empty by the time it arrived. We both stepped inside and the door closed before us.
Lucien seemed a bit lost, honestly. In the past few days, I have noticed him spacing out a lot. I released a dramatic sigh which caught his attention.
"Are you alright?" He asked as his gaze shifted to me.
"Not really, I am just a bit nervous. " I replied. He nodded understanding my words
"You don’t have to be nervous. Everything will work out in the end," he assured me. The words felt hollow, and honestly, I didn’t want to get my hopes high.
"Do you mind if I ask you a question?" I inquired. My grip tightened around my purse
"Sure, go ahead." The lift was almost at our intended floor. On getting his approvals I went ahead.
"How were you able to get this appointment?" I asked. I knew how difficult it was to get this type of appointment.
"The hospital manager is a friend." He shrugged like it was nothing. The doors slid open and we stepped onto the floor
"How wide are your connections?" I couldn’t help but gush. It’s frightening how wide his connections were.
He smirked at my question. "What can I say? I know people," he was such a narcissist.
We finally arrived at Melissa’s door, and I took in a deep breath, reluctant about stepping in.
Lucien linked his hand with mine and gave me a reassuring smile. "I’m here." He simply said. That simple action gave me courage I didn’t think existed.
I was getting too reliant on him, it was starting to frighten me about when things would fall apart. When the skeletons we had hidden under our beds are revealed.
The door was pushed open. "Please welcome. I am Dr Scottfeild..." the doctor introduced herself with a bright smile i returned.
"You can just call me Braelyn. " I replied, her gaze shifted to Lucien, seeing he wasn’t ready to introduce himself, she just moved up.
"Please take a seat." She offered, pointing at the seat across from her. Lucien drew the seat for me before he sat on his. After we were seated Melissa got straight to business.
"I already had a look at your medical data, but I suggest we still carry out some tests if you are fine with that." She explained. I felt Lucien’s hand on my thigh, his subtle presence gave me comfort.
My eyes stung, remembering all my previous appointments Raphael missed. I knew I shouldn’t consider Lucien a substitute, but at this point, he was more than that.
"I am fine with that." I agreed.
She nodded. "I am glad we are on board." Melissa then went ahead to explain further details.
*******
It was a long day, and by the time we were done with the tests, I was drained to the bone. We arrived at Lucien’s apartment which wasn’t far from the hospital.
The door creaked open before the lights switched on. It was a bougie penthouse, the type I expected Lucien to leave in. Low key i was already missing the haunted villa as Lucien called it
"I guess we are eating takeout," Lucien mentioned, pulling off his jacket. I walked straight to the couch and collapsed into it burying my face in one of the throw pillows.
"I want pizza..." I groaned, my voice was muffled by the pillow. I think I heard Lucien laugh from behind me.
"Pizza it is then." He chimed and then pulled out his phone to order. I rolled over on the couch, and my gaze fell on him.
His brows were furrowed as he stared at his phone screen. His jaw clenched annoyed by whatever was on the screen. ..
"I have to leave." He suddenly said ready to leave before giving me a second glance.
"I might return pretty late," and with that, I was the only one left on here. I wondered what happened but this also meant something else
.
I finally had some private time to read the rest of the diary.
