Craved by the Wrong Volkov-Chapter 165: His first flame
Brealyn’s POV
I could sense it, she was wary of Lucien. Her gaze flickered towards his figure drawing closer and whatever she had to say went down the drain
Lucien was standing with Mikhail a few feet away, still locked in their conversation, but I could tell their attention was on us.
"Everything will work out eventually." I pulled her into a hug. She smiled. "Thank you," Adel muttered before she was about to break the hug. I whispered, "Don’t forget what I told you. Your happiness mattered the most."
We hugged briefly, it was a bit stiff and I pulled away. "I understand. It was nice meeting you." She muttered.
"Same here, I find you rather interesting. "Then, just as I stepped back, she caught my sleeve, voice dropping to barely a breath.
"Be careful with Lucien," she murmured, eyes flicking towards the hallway. "I overheard... his real name’s Killian Orlov."
I frowned, confused. Killian Orlov wasn’t Lucien’s real name, but an alias, and I’m not going to correct her. I glance over my shoulder to give Lucien a quick glance. It looked like he was almost done speaking with Mikhail.
She bit her lips then leaned closer, almost inaudible. "The Orlov family is ruthless. Worse than the Mafia. Masters of pretension, they smile while they ruin you. No one related to that family is a saint"
My stomach flipped. Stunned didn’t cover it. Ruthless? That might be true, someone who had planned and hid it so well for years was a master of pretension. Lucien cut communication with his family and made them believe he was squandering his money everywhere, when in truth he was building a company that could rival theirs.
But I was still curious what made Adelina have such a look before I could ask, he appeared at my side. Lucien’s hand wrapped around my waist. "Are you done?" He asked, his sudden presence felt heavy..
Adelina straightened instantly, the mask sliding back into place. "Sure...I won’t hold you back."
"Drive safe," she said brightly, as if we’d only exchanged pleasantries. "Thanks for your time, Braelyn."
I forced a smile, breaking the quick hug. "It was nothing. Hope your friend’s alright."
Lucien’s hand settled lightly on my back as we walked out into the cold night air. The car door shut with a soft thud, engine humming as we pulled away, the lights of the villa shrinking in the mirror.
Killian Orlov.
Ruthless.
Masters of pretension.
I stared out into the darkness, heart beating a little too fast, wondering what the hell I’d walked into.
The car ride was silent, Lucien drove for what felt like forever. My gaze flickered to the window, and a frown settled in between my brows as I noticed the route was different.
I glanced at Lucien whose gaze was focused on the road. My heart skipped a beat, his gaze was dark, as if he was stuck somewhere far from here
"Lucien.." I called out. He didn’t answer, as if he didn’t even hear my voice.
"Lucien!!!" I repeated. He jerked his head, snapped towards me, and he took a sharp turn. My heart beat spiked, and I clutched the seat belt as my body jolted forward.
Lucieb suddenly stepped on the break and the car came to a screeching halt. My heart was racing in my chest, and my hair was scattered all over my face.
My chest heaved as I gasped for air. He wanted to give me a fucking heart attack. Lucien was still quiet. The seat belt clicked open, and I reached out for the door, stumbling out of the car.
"Lynn..." Lucien gasped... before he could finish his statement I had already bolted out of the car towards a bush to puke my stomach out.
I heard a twig snap behind me and a large palm started to rub my back. "Sorry.." he said, then offered me a bottle of water to rinse my mouth.
I accepted. "Are you alright?" He asked. I gargled the water to rinse the sick taste of puke from my mouth before spitting it out.
"I should be asking you that question." Something flashed in his eyes before he gave me a smile.
"Of course I am alright. Stop asking silly questions." He chuckled. My eyes narrowed at him. He was lying in my face. I gritted my teeth, and in the spur of the moment, I shoved him.
Lucien wasn’t expecting it and lost balance, stumbling backwards, falling with his butt on a patch of grass. "What are you doing?" He asked, confusion running across his face.
I clenched my fist and drew in a deep breath. "I am tired, Lucien!" I barked out
"I am tired of being left in the dark. You are not fine."
"You are far from fine but yet you think I am a fool that can’t notice it..."I burst out
I was so tired of everything. He and Raphael were hiding things from me. I hated the fact that they were leaving me in the dark.
"Lynn.." I reached out for my hand but I evaded.
I took a few steps back and his eyes darkened. "If you want me to be your accomplice, you should at least trust me. I am tired of being left in the dark.."
His jaw clenched, "Where is this coming from? I trust you completely, that’s why I revealed that I was Killian." He defended.
I scoffed at him. "We both know that is nothing compared to what you are hiding Lucien..."
"You were dazed out earlier. Why? Is it because you can’t stop thinking of her?!" I snapped at him.
He struggled to get on his feet looking completely puzzled. "I don’t understand what you are talking about, Viper."
My temples twitched. "Fine then if you want me to spell it out... I will," I spat, then my voice went quiet.
"Who is Alessia? Why did you react that way to Xander? I can’t just stop thinking about it. There is Lucien Volkov, the Playboy, and there is Killian the tyrant. I don’t even know who you are."
"I keep on having unanswered questions. Why are you with me when you have Erica? Am I just a piece of amusement that you are going to toss aside....what am I in this mess Lucien?" I burst into tears, unable to hold it back again.
"I am tired of being used like a fool..." My voice choked. "I heard Amber that night. She said I am just a shadow... "
Lucien’s expression finally changed. He gulped. "You are not a shadow Lynn...".he muttered.
"Then what am I? I thought I was meant to be your accomplice..." I barked out, and he pulled me into a hug, burying my face in his chest. My shoulders trembled as I cried in his arms
"You have no idea ..." His voice choked, he didn’t finish the sentence. He lowered his voice.
"Fine, I will tell you everything. We are partners in crime. It is just that I didn’t want to open up old wounds." He said carefully, holding me tight like his all.
"Alessia was someone important to me. She was the one who taught me love, but..."
He gritted his teeth. "Life is just cruel to people like me ", he said, his voice choking with emotion. I was stunned, I thought he said Elena was his ex-girlfriend, whom he loved.
I didn’t even know what to believe.
