Chapter 141: Insider

Raphael’s POV

Killian Orlov, a soft laugh slipped out of my lips when I saw the name of that company, New Horizon Group, once again. I never knew handling a ghost was going to be this difficult.

New Horizon had snatched away the corporation as soon as things fell short on our side as if they were conveniently waiting for the partnership to fall short.

The door swung open, and a round of angry footsteps came rushing in, forcing me to glance away from my work to see Amelia’s face. In just a few hours, the project was sabotaged by what seemed like an insider’s work. The next New Horizon took advantage of the chaos to steal it right under our noses.

"Raphael, we have to do something. We can’t let everything fall apart now. This corporation was very important to the Sinclair family." She rambled on rushing to my desk her face was a collage of masked fury

A tired sigh slipped from my lips, followed by a throbbing headache. "There isn’t much we can do now," I admitted and her face went grim.

She clenched her fist, her eyes calculating every breath. "How about you call them? Things can’t turn bad all of a sudden. We can still fix it," she stuttered, unable to accept the truth.

I straightened my back, my gaze gauged her up. Amelia was smart enough to realise that what she was saying was impossible.

"Even if I call the Voss group then what?" I asked her, leaving her dumbfounded for a moment.

"The breach was from our side. It was your negligence that cost the Volkov group such a loss, and honestly, you should be grateful they aren’t asking for damages." It felt like a bucket of cold water was doused on her.

Her lips parted, then closed, before she gritted her teeth. Her fist was trembling. "It’s .." she paused her eyes then filled with unrestrained anger.

"This is Braelyn’s fault. She was planning it all along." She slammed her hand across the table. I frowned at her words. Honestly, I have thought about it

Braelyn was the one who was originally meant to handle this with Amelia but she conveniently shifted the responsibilities to someone lower. The project, which had been successful then, fell apart.

Everyone assumed it was sabotage and their fingers all conveniently pointed at her. The one person who had enough reason to sabotage something so large.

Ever since Amelia’s project started having issues, little rumours about Braelyn have been spreading like wildfire. I was certain she heard them but she couldn’t act any more unbothered...

I sighed hearing Amelia’s predictable accusations. "Do you have the evidence to back those claims?" I asked her and she looked dumbfounded for a while

"Are you taking her side?" She asked in disbelief, crossing her lips before a cruel smile curled her lips. "You are really defending her after what she did to you." Amelia scoffed and I felt something squeeze in my chest

"I am not taking sides but trying to get logical here. We have an issue on our hands. Instead of pointing fingers, we should find a way to bear the risks, or did you forget the Sinclair family was in a shared risk agreement with us? " I retorted and she went silent for a moment before her eyes went cold.

"I am not pointing fingers, Raphael," she spat before she could finish her statement. There was a soft knock on the door, and it was pushed open. The devil finally arrived with a calm expression.

Braelyn had a curt smile on her face but her eyes remained cold. She didn’t return home yesterday. She went out for a meeting with Lucien and didn’t bother coming back.

Her gaze darted between my face and Amelia’s face before she strode to the empty seat across the table and sat down, not paying any mind to Amelia, who was still standing. A faint smirk crossed my lips.

"I heard you requested my presence, Vice Chairman." She calmly said. My attention drifted to Amelia who was almost losing it

My teeth gritted. "You really have the nerve to act like you have done nothing ", Amelia spat, and Braelyn glanced at her with a look of contempt.

"Because I have done nothing I am aware of Miss Sinclair." She retorted, and Amelia was seconds away from losing.

"You little..." Amelia was about to cuss out. I didn’t have the appetite for chaos right now. My temples throbbed, "That’s enough Amelia." I calmly said. Her gaze darted to me.

"It is either you take a seat or leave." She searched for any sign of hesitation in my eyes, but there was none. Her jaw rolled but she took her seat in the end.

"Why did you request my presence?" She went straight and added first. I tried to search her face for any signs, but Braelyn has been too unpredictable ever since she got involved with Lucien.

"Yes, it is about the Voss cooperation that fell through ", I said. Braelyn already had an idea, after all, it wasn’t some secret.

She arched her brow. "And what does that have to do with me?" A cruel smile curled her lips. "I wasn’t involved in the project, and if we have any losses, the main parties should be the ones trying to salvage the situation ", she said, and Amelia slammed the table.

"I can’t do this Raphael. How do you expect me to listen to this crap when we all know she is behind everything..." She hissed her sharp gaze fell on Braelyn who looked pretty unbothered

"Don’t think you can humiliate me and get away with it." Amelia hissed. I noticed Braelyn the entire time; she was amused, but there wasn’t any glee or smugness. It was like she was enjoying a show.

"I advise you to mind what you say. That is defamation and you are the one who just cost the company money." Braelyn coldly retorted

"Instead of pointing fingers, try to find a way to salvage the situation before it is too late. "Her words were sharp.

Before Amelia lost it completely I replied. "It is already too late. Words just reached me, the Voss group swapped just partners and are willing to start all over without another group "Both Amelia and Braelyn looked stunned. This wasn’t public knowledge.

Braelyn was genuinely surprised. "Who?" She asked while Amelia couldn’t find the words knowing everything was crumbling too fast. "New Horizon Holdings. I don’t think you know it "

Amelia stumbled backwards. "No.. how is that possible?" she muttered, her body trembled before she stormed away, slamming the door.

She was fuming, but that wasn’t what caught my attention; it was Braelyn’s reaction. She was shocked but not in complete disbelief. It was like she knew of New Horizon, which wasn’t possible because the rivalry between the two companies wasn’t public.

My stomach twisted, wondering if my speculation of New Horizon having an insider was true. Was she that insider? Because what other leverage could they have aside from insider knowledge

" You don’t look shocked by the revelation." I voiced out, startling Braelyn, who was watching Amelia storm out. Her lips parted and closed.

"I don’t understand what you mean. I am equally baffled by everything. I never knew a day would come when someone in this city could actually compete with you,

Raphael," she chimed. "What were the odds?"

Her words were taunting.
