Craved by the Wrong Volkov-Chapter 134: Sworn enemies
Braelyn’s POV
"We need to take her home," I said quietly. Still hurt by her condition. Genny wasn’t the reckless type; the entire situation felt a bit off. Honestly, I had forgotten about everything and all my attention was on her, but she was too shaken to say anything.
Lucien’s expression tightened. He sighed massaging his forehead. He wasn’t pleased with going to her place. "Her place is in the opposite direction," he said. Immediately, those words slipped from his mouth, and I sent him a harsh glare.
I sighed, rubbing my temple. "Then we call Joey." That was the first person I could think of. I wasn’t okay leaving her in the hands of an Uber driver in this condition.
She didn’t like my suggestion. For a moment I forgot her dislike for him
Genny jerked upright, fury overriding even her drunken haze. She ripped herself halfway from my grip. "Do you want to kill me?" she screeched. "He’ll give me a heart attack before I make it to my doorstep!"
Lucien lifted a brow. "He can’t be that bad."
Genny’s face turned ugly. "You would say that because he is your friend. I would rather stay with Braelyn than have him take me anywhere." She said stubbornly before giving a pitiful expression.
My lips parted before the words could slip out. A calm voice slid into the hallway like a blade. "I’d actually love to see how I manage that."
Genny froze on recognising that voice immediately. She clung desperately while my head snapped up.
Joey stood a few steps away, hands tucked casually into his jacket pockets, a familiar smirk playing at his lips. I was surprised how he got here when none of us had contacted him yet. I immediately got the answer once my gaze slid behind him.
Behind him lingered a woman. She was tall and poised, and from one glance, I could tell that she was someone from a notable background. The lady was clearly uncomfortable watching the scene with wide eyes.
Then it clicked the conversation I overheard earlier. She must be Joey’s blind date. Sigh, poor woman, she must be confused by this drama.
Genny was glaring hard at Joey like her biggest enemy, and honestly, I didn’t understand where their hatred stems from. At first, I thought they just couldn’t get along, but over time, it felt like something worse. Genny didn’t like him, that was a fact. Even in her drunk state she was aware of that
"Oh," Joey added dryly, glancing at Genny taking in her appearance. Concern flickered through his eyes before his gaze turned into something contemptuous. "You look like hell." he chuckled.
"Did karma finally catch up to you?" Joey snickered.
Genny let out a hysterical laugh. "You see? Infuriating. It’s either I kill him or he kills me at this rate."
I stared between them, my brain struggling to catch up.
What the hell did this night just turn into? Lucien’s brows twitched; he was probably cursing himself for getting involved with this situation.
"You are too evil to be killed so easily." Joey hissed at her. The lady tugged Joey’s clothes dragging his jacket.
"What is going on? Is she someone you know?" She asked. Joey’s expression softened, and he gave Genny a tired sigh before glancing back at his date.
"She is a good acquaintance. She is just acting out because she is drunk." He explained before adding.
"How about my driver dropping you off. I am sorry it had to come to this. " He said, and the lady drowned, clearly not satisfied with this situation.
"But..." Her lips parted. I felt sorry for her and Genny was oddly quiet throughout this exchange.
Joey smiled softly. "It’s a long night and this will take longer. I will contact you later." He explained before adding once again
"I am really sorry." He added.
She waved him up, then forced up a smile before glancing at Genny. Her expression was unreadable. Genny glared at her. She didn’t like the blind date’s gaze.
"Don’t stare at me like that. I would rather die than have anything to do with that monster." She spat dramatically. I clamped my hand over her mouth to stop her from saying anything crazy.
"I am sorry, don’t mind her," I said helplessly while Genny struggled to break free from me as her life depended on it.
"I will take my leave now." The blind date said with a wary look. Genny broke out of my grip and said the craziest thing ever just to upset Joey.
"Don’t get deceived by his face. He will get you pregnant and disappear from your life for years." She desperately shouted while I stared at her completely dumbfounded
Joey’s lips twitched as he watched his date run away before he shot Genny a glare. "Are you done acting out?" He hissed.
Genny fell quiet immediately and started crying again. "He is going to kill me."
I didn’t know what to do. Lucien was rather impatient. He yanked me from Genny’s hold then glanced at Joey. "I trust you can handle this." He said before dragging me along. Genevieve immediately tried to chase after me
"Please don’t leave me." But before she could reach us. Joey’s arms wrapped around her waist and she was flipped over his shoulder.
"Better shut up or I might kill you for real." That didn’t shut her up.
More chaos broke out. Lucien didn’t give me the chance to see the outcome. I was dragged out of the venue. The car was waiting for us in front of the building. The chauffeur handed over the keys to us
We settled into the car and, at the same time, saw Joey carrying Genny out of the building while a taxi stopped for them. I was really worried they might actually kill themselves.
Lucien started the car and drove in the opposite direction. I was a bit worried remembering how much he drank earlier.
"Are you sure I should not drive? You drank a lot." I mentioned when he got onto the main road.
Lucien’s gaze remained on the road. "It’s fine. I am still sober."
I wasn’t convinced but he indeed looked sober. Maybe he had a high alcohol tolerance.
"Don’t push yourself." I sighed
He drove quietly for a while..The night street blurred around us. Lucien sighed for the hundredth time. His voice came out quietly.
"Has anything been bothering? You have been acting distant the entire night." He asked me, leaving me surprised and he noticed something off
Honestly, something has been bothering me, and I wasn’t sure if I could bring it up. "You said you can do anything for a good price."
Something shifted in the car. It was subtle. "If your offer entices me." He mentioned
I drew in a deep breath. "What if it involves bringing down Volkov Apex?" The moment I said those words. The car came to a screeching halt. My head raced, Lucien’s head darted in my direction.
"What crazy idea do you have in your mind?" He said with a serious expression. Shock evidence in his wide eyes.
