COTE : There is Something Wrong With Hikigaya-Chapter 157: Sakayanagi’s Invitation.
Chapter 157 - 157: Sakayanagi's Invitation.
The student guidance office—hardly anyone ever went there, even in a regular school, let alone here.
After all, the students here were all geniuses. Who needed guidance?
As a result, it had become the perfect hiding spot for a certain violent teacher to slack off. freēnovelkiss.com
For example...
"Seriously, Shizuka-sensei, are you smoking indoors again?"
The moment Hikigaya stepped inside, he caught the scent of cigarette smoke. He quickly walked over to the window and opened it to let the air out.
"Hey! The AC is on, you know!"
As the warm air rushed in, the woman lounging with her legs crossed immediately voiced her displeasure.
"Oh, so you do care about the AC."
Hikigaya sighed in exasperation. Not only was Shizuka-sensei openly smoking in the guidance office, but she was also doing it with the air conditioning on. From how natural it looked, it was obvious she was a repeat offender.
"What's with that look?"
Hiratsuka Shizuka put out her cigarette and grumbled, "I bet you're thinking, 'This beautiful woman is actually an AC thief,' aren't you?"
"Please replace 'beautiful' with 'aging'—"
Before he could finish, he felt a chilling killing intent and immediately shut his mouth.
Shizuka-sensei let out a few amused grunts before waving him off impatiently.
"Vacation starts tomorrow. Can't I let loose a little? Not only am I going to smoke, but I'm going out for drinks tonight—lots of drinks! Heh heh! Anyway, what do you want?"
"Me? Can't I come here for no reason?"
Hikigaya responded, "I'm just checking in on the teacher no one cares about. Otherwise, someone will start nagging me later—stuff like, 'You have no conscience, you don't respect your teachers,' and so on."
"You heartless brat! Do you even know what it means to respect your teachers?"
Hearing that, Shizuka-sensei's eyebrows shot up. "You're really slandering me like this? These past few months, I've been so stressed because of you troublemakers that I've even gotten more wrinkles! You better pay for my makeup and skincare products!"
"Shizuka-sensei, isn't it possible that it's just due to natural causes?"
"You little punk! Are you saying I'm getting old?!"
Hikigaya turned his face away as if to say, *I didn't say anything, you said it yourself.*
Just as Hiratsuka Shizuka was rolling up her sleeves, ready to teach this "disobedient" student a lesson, there was a sudden knock at the door. Before anyone could respond, a small silver-haired figure had already opened the door and stepped inside.
"Good day to you both. I hope I'm not interrupting?"
Leaning on a cane, the silver-haired girl was none other than Sakayanagi Arisu, whom they hadn't seen for a while.
"Oh, it's you, Sakayanagi."
Hiratsuka Shizuka waved at her casually, as if they were quite familiar. Meanwhile, Hikigaya glanced back and forth between the two, puzzled by their apparent closeness.
"Hikigaya-kun, the guidance office isn't just for you, you know~"
Sakayanagi smiled at Hikigaya meaningfully. His face immediately darkened, but before he could say anything, Shizuka-sensei flicked him on the forehead.
"Ouch!" Hikigaya gasped, quickly covering his forehead.
Then, noticing Shizuka-sensei's disapproving look, he finally got the hint and stood up to offer his seat to the silver-haired girl across from him.
"Thank you."
Sakayanagi chuckled softly, thanked him, and adjusted her skirt before slowly sitting down.
"Hikigaya, you two know each other, right?"
Shizuka-sensei suddenly asked.
"More or less."
Hikigaya scratched his head.
"What do you mean 'more or less'?"
Shizuka-sensei looked annoyed.
"Hehe, maybe Hikigaya-kun is just bad at remembering girls because he's surrounded by so many of them."
Sakayanagi said teasingly.
Hikigaya: "..."
*What do you mean I have a lot of girls around me?!*
This little devil Sakayanagi is definitely trying to ruin my reputation in front of Shizuka-sensei! I'm—
"Huh? Is that so? I always thought Hikigaya was hopeless with women and would probably be single forever."
Shizuka-sensei said with genuine surprise.
Hikigaya's eyes widened in shock!
Sakayanagi, seeing his reaction, looked slightly surprised herself before breaking into laughter.
"The semester has come to an end, and I wanted to personally thank Hiratsuka-sensei for all her guidance during this time."
Saying this, Sakayanagi used her cane for support, slowly stood up, and gave a small bow to Shizuka-sensei to express her gratitude.
Hikigaya was completely lost watching this scene. Since when did Sakayanagi and Shizuka-sensei have this kind of relationship?
Noticing Hikigaya's confused look, Sakayanagi turned to him as if explaining on purpose. "Hikigaya-kun, you probably know that I have trouble walking. Shizuka-sensei has been helping me a lot in my daily life recently."
Hikigaya glanced at Shizuka-sensei, as if seeking confirmation.
"When did you become so suspicious of everything?"
Hiratsuka Shizuka didn't seem pleased with Hikigaya's reaction.
"Sensei and Hikigaya-kun seem quite familiar with each other, Hiratsuka-sensei. Could it be that you two... have known each other for a long time?"
Sakayanagi narrowed her eyes and smiled.
"I swear, you two..."
Hiratsuka Shizuka sighed. "This school does encourage competition among students, but that's not the only thing that matters. You're both smart students, so you should understand what I mean."
"Shizuka-sensei, I'm just a student from Class D. You know what kind of class that is. Even you almost coughed up blood dealing with them. What chance do I have to compete with someone like Sakayanagi from Class A?"
Sakayanagi remained calm. "Class D might seem bad right now, but the future is hard to predict. There could be other outstanding students like Hikigaya-kun hidden there, just waiting to be discovered."
Her words sounded polite, but Hikigaya felt like she was hinting at something. For some reason, a certain expressionless face suddenly popped into his mind.
Just as he was about to speak, Shizuka-sensei suddenly clapped her hands. "Alright, alright! Today's the last day before break! Can you two give me a break? My work hours are over! I don't want to work anymore—I have plans to go drinking!"
With that, she didn't hesitate to shove them both out of the office.
"Honestly, I must not have assigned you two enough homework!"
Then, with a sharp *click*, she locked the door behind her and walked away, leaving Hikigaya and Sakayanagi standing in the hallway.
"Hikigaya-kun, want to have dinner together?"
Sakayanagi extended an invitation with sincerity.
Hikigaya thought for a moment before nodding in agreement.
