Contract Marriage: Let's Make It Real, Mrs. Sterling!-Chapter 273 - 272: Be More Playful With Me
Clark Jacobs wasn’t just bragging about his ability to make girls happy; he truly had the knack.
Chatting with him never made Mia Sutton feel uncomfortable. His topics were always interesting, and they ended up having a light-hearted conversation.
Jensen Sterling glanced to his side as he drove. The young lady next to him was holding her phone, her pretty eyes curved into smiles, occasionally letting out a charming laugh, looking genuinely happy.
Mia was listening to Clark recount stories of how indifferent Jensen had been to admirers in the past, along with various quirky tales when suddenly a hand reached over and plucked the phone from her grasp.
Mia watched as the phone returned to Jensen’s hand, blinking her eyes softly twice.
Jensen held the phone between his fingers, while Clark, oblivious to the fact that someone else was now holding the phone, continued, "Sister-in-law, Jensen is just a bit blunt in relationships; don’t mind too much. Although he doesn’t really understand romance, he’s absolutely devoted. That’s about the only good part."
"And sis, you wouldn’t know, in Jensen’s eyes, there’s only work. But that’s normal, workaholic. If you’re bored, you can contact me, I’ll call some people, and we can hang out together."
Listening to Clark, Jensen let out a scoff and casually asked, "Where do you want to hang out?"
In the private room, Clark was in the middle of speaking when Jensen’s voice suddenly came through the phone, nearly causing him to tumble off the couch in shock.
Wasn’t he just talking to his sister-in-law? How did Jensen get the phone? Wasn’t it on speaker?
Clark said, "Um, Jensen, you heard wrong. I meant I’d go out myself, didn’t say I’d take sister-in-law along." 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
"I have nothing more to say. This call was actually for Rhodes, I’ll give the phone back to him."
Saying that, he quickly rid himself of that hot potato.
The two people in the room watched him as he skated dangerously close to the edge of trouble.
Jensen was sitting right there, and he just blatantly badmouthed him in front of his own wife. He never thought about the consequences of being overheard?
Brian Rhodes glanced at Clark, clasped his hands in a prayer gesture, desperately apologizing, almost as if ’please forgive me’ was written on his forehead.
Then he leaned over, picked up the phone from the table, and asked, "Hello, it’s me. You and sister-in-law on your way?"
Upon hearing Brian’s voice, Jensen replied calmly, "Ten more minutes."
Brian: "Alright, should we wait for you to get here before ordering the food?"
Jensen: "Whatever works."
After exchanging a few words, he hung up the call.
Seeing this, Clark finally breathed a sigh of relief, patting his chest as if relieved to have dodged a bullet: "Oh my god, you guys have no idea. When the voice on the phone switched to Jensen, I nearly lost my soul."
Jonah Quinn leaned back on the sofa and said slowly, "Who told you to have such a loose tongue?"
Clark pushed his hair back and said, "I’m just used to it."
Brian sat there, legs crossed, casually chiming in, "Hmm, just keep it up, no worries."
Clark: "..."
...
In the car, Mia couldn’t resist glancing at the person who had solemnly returned to driving after putting down their phone. Her lips moved slightly before she finally asked, "Mr. Jensen, what was Clark talking about just now?"
Just a moment ago, Clark was complaining to her, and then the next, her phone was snatched away without even being on speaker, so she genuinely didn’t know what was said afterward.
Jensen glanced sideways at Mia, the young girl’s eyes were fixed on him, and then he chuckled softly, "Nothing much."
Mia: "..."
Just when she thought Jensen wouldn’t say anymore, his voice came casually from beside her.
"Do you really want to know?"
With his tone, Mia blinked, suddenly feeling she might not really want to know anymore.
"He just said I’m very soft-hearted, and that you should use your charms to win me over, and I’d agree to anything. Also, he mentioned I’m ... proper and an ideal partner, among other things. Do you still want to hear it?"
Mia: "..."
She didn’t want to anymore.
Jensen studied Mia’s reaction, a hint of amusement flickering in his eyes where she couldn’t see, and he said no more.
There were quite a few cars on the road at this moment, yet traffic wasn’t bad, so they arrived at their destination quickly.
Before getting out, Jensen handed her scarf to Mia as she donned her mask, "Put it on."
Jensen led her directly to the private room.
He came here for work, but the reason for taking the job was all because Mia was here.
Since he was here, and Brian and the others were too, he thought to introduce Mia to them.
This dinner was initially just to discuss work, a chance to chat first and then introduce Mia next time. But after watching the live stream, he changed his mind.
Turned out to be a spur-of-the-moment decision, but it didn’t feel bad at all.
Mia followed Jensen, riding the elevator up, nearly bumping into him as he stopped at the door.
After halting, Mia raised her eyes, puzzled, "What’s up, Mr. Jensen?"
Jensen looked into her eyes and then extended his hand toward her.
For a moment, Mia didn’t know how to react.
Until Jensen spoke, "Your hand."
Mia immediately understood, looked at the hand before her, and placed her own into his palm.
Jensen’s gaze fell into his palm, darkening slightly, recalling the way she had reached into her pocket for her phone in the car.
The young girl’s hand in his was really small, with long slender fingers and fair skin like porcelain, even the fingernails a cute shade of pink with a pale luna mark.
A few seconds later, the man’s own hand gently closed around hers, her skin indeed silky smooth, like it was soaked in milk.
Then, holding her hand, he led her inside.
Mia had no inkling of Jensen’s thoughts, still lost in worrying about her declining work efficiency.
She couldn’t believe she forgot, letting Mr. Jensen take the lead in holding hands, which should have been her job. At first, she had done well, and now she’d forgotten.
She hadn’t realized then that at first, it was because she regarded Jensen solely as a contract partner, a collaborative partner, and naturally approached it dutifully.
Now, the contract sometimes slipped from her mind without her realizing, and probably even she hadn’t noticed the phenomenon.
