Chapter 236: Chapter 236: Has Auntie Returned to the Old House?

Jensen Sterling had just set things down when his phone buzzed in his pocket. He paused what he was doing, pulled it out, and saw a WeChat message from someone marked as Mom.

Jensen casually opened it and saw a line of text: "Jensen, it’s inconvenient for Mom to stay with you, so I’ll be going back to the old house."

"You and Mia should get along well."

Following that was a voice message.

Jensen’s finger tapped the screen to play it, and a woman’s voice came through.

"Oh right, Jensen, there’s a jewelry box on the bedside table in my room. I bought it for Mia during a trip some time ago. I meant to give it to her but forgot. Remember to give it to Mia for me."

After listening to the voice message, Jensen held his phone for a while, his eyes deepening. He responded with "Got it," then slowly exited the chat page, turned off his phone, and put it back in his pocket.

.......

When Mia Sutton returned after washing her hands, she noticed the housekeeper was no longer there. With a hint of surprise, she asked, "Has the housekeeper already left?"

By the dining table, Jensen Sterling was holding a spoon in the soup. He responded after hearing Mia’s words, "Yeah, she’s gone."

After saying that, he lifted his gaze, a slight smile on his lips, and gestured for Mia, who was not far away: "Come over and eat."

Mia made a sound of acknowledgment, walked over obediently, and sat down beside Jensen. He moved the soup he had served in front of her, slightly raised his chin, and said, "Weren’t you hungry? Eat up."

Mia nodded, scooped up a spoonful of soup, and brought it to her mouth. The savory taste awakened her taste buds, and her stomach, which had been hungry most of the day, seemed to come alive. She squinted her eyes in happiness and couldn’t help but sigh, "The housekeeper’s soup is quite tasty."

Hearing this, Jensen scooped up a spoonful and took a sip. His mouth was filled with the rich aroma of the soup. After a few seconds, he slowly said, "Not as good as yours."

Mia was taken aback by the compliment, then proudly lifted her face with a brilliant smile, accepting the praise without modesty: "Of course, my cooking skills are top-notch."

Jensen listened to the young woman’s proud tone and chuckled lightly. Although his voice was gentle, it carried a magnetic, somewhat enchanting quality.

Mia lowered her head to drink the soup. Hearing the soft chuckle, her ears felt a bit itchy. She sipped the soup and internally criticized: That soft chuckle was just like an enchanting fox spirit from myths, bewitching people, swallowing them whole.

To prevent herself from being enchanted, Mia obediently focused on drinking the soup, adhering to the principle of not speaking to avoid mistakes.

The room returned to silence. The soup in Mia’s bowl was almost gone. She seemed to suddenly remember something, and she lifted her head to look at Jensen.

Jensen noticed the gaze of the young woman, slowly lifted his head, and asked, "What’s up?"

Mia, still holding chopsticks in one hand, picked up a bite of food and put it in her mouth, chewing slowly. Her cheeks puffed out slightly, making her look just like a cute little hamster.

Then Jensen heard Mia ask, "Mr. Sterling, it seems like the housekeeper hasn’t been back for several days. Has she gone back to the old house?"

Jensen’s hands paused for a moment at her words, and the soup in his spoon wobbled slightly.

Recalling the WeChat message he saw earlier, after a few seconds, Jensen finished the sip of soup and then looked at Mia, saying calmly, "Mom hasn’t mentioned anything to me yet."

Astonishingly, he had completely forgotten about the WeChat message he had seen. No wonder he was someone who could win awards so easily; when it came to lying, his face remained unchanged and heart unflawed.

"Mia..." Jensen called her.

Mia lifted her head, her eyes filled with confusion as she looked at him, "What’s up?"

Jensen smiled slowly, "I’m not sure if Mom will come back to stay, so you should stay in the master bedroom for these few days. If Mom doesn’t return in a few days, you can move back to the guest room."

After he finished speaking, he paused for two seconds and asked seriously, "Is that okay?"

Mia nodded after listening, "That’s fine. I’ll ask the housekeeper in a few days and then move back. That way, it’s more certain."

Mia really couldn’t be blamed; someone else looked too genuine and didn’t seem like they were lying at all.

Jensen: "Okay, we’ll ask in a few days."

The meal ended quickly.

...

In the room, Mia peeked outside, then locked the door.

She quickly got into bed, picked up the tablet beside her, and started coloring the sketches she hadn’t finished yet.

If she were in the guest room, she wouldn’t have such concerns, but being in the master bedroom, which was someone’s territory, it was better to be careful to avoid any mishaps.

Meanwhile, in the study, Jensen was working. After a long while, he shifted his gaze away from the computer, leaned back in the chair, and tiredly pinched the bridge of his nose, his eyes slightly closed.

After a moment, like he remembered something, the man pushed his chair away and stood up. He walked out of the study and glanced toward the master bedroom. The door was closed.

He guessed the young woman was taking a shower.

After looking for a moment, he turned and walked to another direction: the room where Giselle Summers stayed.

Opening the door, he immediately saw the jewelry box on the bedside table.

Jensen walked over, picked up the box, and opened it to take a look.

It was a necklace, very pretty, with a slightly playful style. Jensen imagined how it would look on the girl and smiled, thinking it would look great.

Then he closed the box again, took it out of the room, and returned to the study. He opened a small cabinet beside the bookshelf and put it inside.

...

Focused wholeheartedly on her drawing in the master bedroom, Mia had no clue that Giselle Summers had left and that the gift left behind was hidden by her dear son.

When Mia got into her drawing, she tended to lose track of time. So, when the door knocked, she almost jumped off the bed in fright.

"Mia, are you asleep? Open the door."

Mia hurriedly saved her work, shut off the tablet, and stashed it away at the bottom of the drawer.

As she did so, she replied, "I’m not asleep yet, Mr. Sterling. Just a moment."

When she finally got to the door, she even tidied up her loose clothes and messy hair before opening it.

She opened the door with a sweet smile, "Mr. Sterling, you’re done with work."

Jensen: "Yeah, all done."

Mia: "Oh, then Mr. Sterling, you should go take a shower. You’ve had a long day. Take a shower and rest early." She gestured towards the bathroom as she spoke.

Jensen glanced at the bathroom, smiled, and said, "Okay." Then he turned and went inside.
