Contract Marriage: Abusive Love with Mr.CEO-Chapter 448 - 237: He Wants Her to Come Find Him 4
Howard Geoffrey pursed his lips, "A few pieces of clothing signify care?"
"A mother knows her son best, Howie. Why didn’t Becca attend Andrew’s one-year-old birthday party and instead sent the clothes directly? I think it has something to do with you, right?"
Howard’s handsome face turned somber, "Mom, I don’t want to stay home tonight without any interest."
Mrs. Geoffrey softly said, "I didn’t mean anything else, I just wanted to inform you of this!"
Howard’s expression remained calm and indifferent, "Let’s eat!"
Howard sat on a sofa in a backlit part of the room, holding a lit cigarette.
He hadn’t turned on the light. The room was quite dim, and apart from the vague light coming in from the garden, only the red glow from the burning cigarette remained.
Suddenly, he picked up the phone on the table.
Habitually, he opened the phone’s contacts, and the nameless number was still at the top.
Throughout the day, he had countless urges to dial this number, but in the past six months, it has remained there, showing a red color indicating an undialed call.
Like every time in the past six months, he pressed the dial button...
But, just a second before connecting, he pressed the hang-up button again.
After repeating this several times, he finally threw the phone back on the table.
Crushing out the cigarette butt, he got up and turned on the room’s light.
But the moment the lights came on, seeing the emptiness around him, he turned them off again...
He didn’t know when it started, but he had grown unaccustomed to having such bright lights on at night, because he was no longer used to the emptiness of the room. Only the darkness could make him feel that the room wasn’t so cold and desolate.
Rebecca Quentin noticed as soon as she started work that the entire company was very solemn, even the usually lively Nicolette Holmes was listlessly lying on her desk.
Having already strained relationships with her colleagues, Rebecca could only turn to Nicolette for answers.
"Did something happen? Why does everyone look so lethargic?"
Listlessly, Nicolette replied to Rebecca, "Our company’s design got rejected by ’Skytop’ again. Manager Smith got scolded by Director Lynn, saying we didn’t even bother designing and yet sent it to Mr. Gordon again... Director Lynn said if ’Skytop’ ends up canceling the contract due to subpar design, both we and Manager Smith will be kicked out!"
"What?" Rebecca was shocked.
"Now the whole company is worried about their jobs, and the manager is in his office quite troubled."
Rebecca sat back at her desk, dazed, her mind in turmoil.
Rejected again?
Does he really have to do this?
She was just working at "QCS", and the design wasn’t even hers, yet he deliberately decided to play them?
She believed that even if Manager Smith and the designers racked their brains to redo the design, it still wouldn’t pass, because he was targeting her.
Why does it have to be like this?
Is it really just because he can’t stand the sight of her, and wouldn’t spare "QCS" either?
"Becca, come in for a moment." The manager suddenly called from the office door.
Snapping back from her thoughts, Rebecca stood up, "Okay."
In the office, Manager Smith said, "The design draft sent to ’Skytop’ was returned again..."
"I heard from my colleagues."
Manager Smith chuckled bitterly, "Could it be we offended ’Skytop’?"
Rebecca’s face immediately turned somewhat ashen, "Uh..."
Manager Smith waved his hand, "Just joking. ’Skytop’ is such a big company, why would they bother making things difficult for ’QCS’? Besides, we’re just a small subsidiary of ’QCS’..."
Rebecca didn’t know how to respond.
Manager Smith regained his serious tone, "I called you in to say that since we sent the design without modifications to Mr. Gordon, Director Lynn called and questioned the two designers in our company, and they actually blamed it all on you, claiming it was your idea not to modify the design. I’ve already chastised those two unethical designers, but scolding them now does no good... Director Lynn is very angry and wants to hold you accountable."
Rebecca self-blamed, "This is indeed my responsibility." Although she knew it had nothing to do with the design, if "Skytop" really decided to cancel the contract or continues to torment "QCS" with unsatisfactory designs, it all stemmed from her.
Manager Smith shook his head, "It’s not related to you. As the company’s manager, all decisions go through me; there’s no reason for you to bear this alone."
