Contract Marriage: Abusive Love with Mr.CEO-Chapter 437 - 231: The Truth Behind His Father’s Suicide (Part 2)
"Okay."
"Don’t tell the old Mrs. Geoffrey it was me who bought it, just say it was from you."
Isabella asked in confusion, "Why?"
Becca suppressed the sob rising in her throat and replied, "I think the Geoffrey family wouldn’t like it."
"Are you talking about Mr. Geoffrey?"
Becca looked out the window with blurred eyes and said nothing more.
Another week had passed.
That morning, because of a meeting scheduled for ten, Becca began preparing the meeting materials at nine.
But who would have thought, when Becca went to make copies of the materials, she realized she’d left the documents Manager Smith needed for today’s meeting at home...
Annoyed yet relieved she still had time to return home,
with Manager Smith’s approval, Becca hurried back home...
What frustrated Becca even more was finally getting a taxi after a long wait, having retrieved the documents.
Seeing the time was nearing ten, Becca urged the driver, "Driver, please hurry."
Seeing Becca in her professional attire, the driver complied and stepped on the gas, speeding up.
The car sped down the road...
Unexpectedly, as the driver accelerated, Becca suddenly shouted, "Driver, stop, stop..."
The taxi driver braked abruptly and pulled over to the side, "Miss, what’s wrong, weren’t you going to ’QCS’? So you work at ’Skytop’!"
Becca didn’t respond to the driver, as she had quickly opened the car door and rushed out.
The driver noticed Becca running out of the car and raised his voice, "Hey, miss, you haven’t paid yet..."
The driver followed her, only to find that Becca had stopped, facing the towering skyscraper of "Skytop," her gaze fixed on its entrance.
"Miss, what are you looking at? You haven’t settled your fare yet..."
"Driver, I’m going to ’QCS,’ I’ll add the delay to your fee later." Becca spoke to the taxi driver while her eyes remained fixed ahead.
Hearing Becca’s words, the driver leaned against the car and began to smoke.
At this moment, Becca’s clear eyes reflected this scene――
In front of "Skytop’s" entrance, a tall, handsome figure had just stepped out of a car, holding a smart and adorable wimpy kid in his arms.
But as soon as he got out, he placed the wimpy kid on the ground...
The wimpy kid seemed to have just learned to walk, tottering unsteadily.
He walked slowly in front, with the wimpy kid following him, and his subordinates and bodyguards watched affectionately.
Yet, after only a few steps, the wimpy kid refused to continue...
He stood still and reached out his hands, wanting his father to carry him.
Seeing the wimpy kid asking to be held, he squatted down and spoke earnestly to the child.
The wimpy kid didn’t quite understand his father’s words, so he pouted, his hands still reaching out for a hug. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
He stood up and said something else to the child.
The wimpy kid still looked pitifully at the tall figure with big eyes...
He seemed helpless with the wimpy kid, crouched down quickly, picked him up, and lovingly kissed his forehead.
The wimpy kid seemed to really adore his father, giggling instantly while in his arms...
Becca stared blankly as Howard Geoffrey put aside his usual pride and embraced Andrew, heading towards "Skytop."
The taxi driver waited a long time and finally, impatiently snapped, "Miss, are you leaving or not? The car parked here for too long will get fined!"
Only when she saw the father and son disappear did Becca slowly snap out of it.
She turned around, apologized to the taxi driver, and got into the car, feeling lost.
In the car, the driver started the engine, glancing at Becca’s tearful eyes in the rearview mirror, he couldn’t help but ask, "Miss, are you crying? Do you need a tissue?"
Becca shook her head, tears silently falling from her eyes.
"I saw you kept looking at ’Skytop’s’ front entrance, but apart from ’Skytop’s’ CEO, Howard Geoffrey, getting out of the car, nothing else seemed to happen there. You can’t be telling me you were watching him, right? Can’t be, people like him have nothing to do with us ordinary folks, you saw how he got off with his son, surrounded by bodyguards, no one can get close... But hey, liking a handsome guy, even if he’s rich, isn’t worth crying over!" The driver, unsure how to comfort someone, tried haphazardly as he saw Becca still crying.
However, Becca wasn’t listening to a word of the driver’s, her mind entirely on the father and son duo...
She could already imagine what had just occurred.
He carried Andrew from the car and asked him to walk on his own.
He had, long ago, told her he wanted to train his child to be independent from a young age, never to spoil him.
But Andrew refused to walk after a few steps, clinging for a hold.
He refused, insisting with a heap of reasoning the child wouldn’t understand, urging him to walk on his own.
Still, Andrew refused, standing there asking to be held.
He tried asserting his paternal authority but was no match for the child’s pitiful display...
Then he went against his earlier decision to cultivate independence, helplessly picking up the little brat...
Thinking of this, Becca suddenly found herself laughing.
He claimed not to spoil the child, yet no one doted on him more...
The driver, hearing Becca laugh, thought perhaps he’d comforted her successfully and chuckled along, "That’s it, a girl’s not pretty when she cries, you’re so young, what could be so upsetting!" Saying this, he took another look at Becca through the rearview mirror.
What surprised the driver was, although Becca was smiling, tears were still steadily streaming down her face in the mirror.
This left the driver at a loss for words...
Only when the taxi stopped in front of "QCS," did Becca, absorbed in her own thoughts, truly come back to her senses.
