Contract Marriage: Abusive Love with Mr.CEO-Chapter 429 - 227: They Were Together Last Night 3_2
Chester Robinson’s anger drew Alice Robinson’s discontent, and she forcefully pushed him away, looking at him in disbelief, "You’re blaming me because of her?"
Chester glared at her with a sharp gaze, "I won’t allow you to harm her!"
Alice laughed incredulously, "Chester, I really didn’t expect you to be so anxious about her... Have you fallen for her?"
"You know who I care about."
"If I knew, the person you should be helping now would be me, not blaming me because of her!" Having never been scolded by Chester like this, Alice’s eyes reddened with grievance, and her voice turned choked.
Seeing Alice lowering her head in grievance, Chester slowly walked towards her, shedding his cold demeanor, gently embracing her, and said softly, "It’s not because I care about her that I’m blaming you, it’s because I don’t want you to hurt her!"
Alice pursed her lips, "You still say you don’t care for her!"
Chester patiently coaxed, "You know well that I brought her to the banquet to test how much Howard cares about her, you just need to watch quietly, there’s no need to intervene!"
"But seeing her makes me uncomfortable, I’m always worried she’ll take Howard away again!"
"If Howard’s feelings for you are true, why should you worry?"
"How can I not worry... she’s Rebecca Quentin, Howard’s ex-wife, the mother of his child, and she was once the woman he cared about the most!"
"Since you know all this, why do you naively believe Howard has genuine feelings for you?"
At this moment, Alice wrinkled her nose in a light smile, "Ha, all night I was worried about the result of your test, but just now, when I was talking to Rebecca Quentin at the washroom entrance, Howard came to find me. Rebecca was clearly there, but he didn’t even glance at her, his eyes were all on me... I’m really happy, he finally chose me over Rebecca Quentin."
"Is that all it took for you to think he no longer has feelings for Rebecca Quentin?"
Alice looked satisfyingly at Chester’s skeptical gaze, "That’s enough for me."
Chester’s face remained calm, "A woman blinded by love can never think rationally about things."
Alice was still lost in her bliss, "You don’t know, when he held me and walked away, as I leaned on him, imagining Rebecca’s heartache, I felt so proud... I finally waited for this day!"
Faced with Alice’s ecstasy, Chester reluctantly poured cold water on her happiness, "Do you think you’re already the victor? You’re wrong, tonight is just the beginning."
Alice suddenly lifted her gaze, "What do you mean?"
Chester had already turned away and left.
On an open-air balcony outside the hotel ballroom, Rebecca Quentin stood quietly.
The view of Paris at night remained bustling, yet it lost the beauty it had when she first arrived.
All the flickering lights on those skyscrapers were so dazzling that she could hardly keep her eyes open—only when the cold night wind hit her did she realize she couldn’t open her eyes because they were too sore.
That’s how people are; once they have memories, it’s hard to forget...
Over the past six months, she’d thought about encountering him again, perhaps because of Andrew, or maybe accidentally meeting him on the streets of T City, or through some other chance...
If she saw him again, she thought, she must explain the child’s situation to him.
He’s the child’s father. No matter what their outcome is, she has to give him an explanation...
But just now, when she saw him, she still didn’t have the courage to open her mouth and explain, or rather, she felt there was no need to explain anymore.
His life has moved far away from hers, so why bother him again?
After more than seven years of entanglement, he was tired, and so was she. Removing themselves from each other’s lives has seemingly made them both much happier than before.
She just felt terribly sorry for her unborn child—she didn’t take good care of her...
Yes, it really was a little princess he had always hoped for.
If they could’ve made it to the end together, with a son and a daughter, they would have had a very happy family now, right?
Closing her eyes to suppress the burning sensation, she smiled bitterly.
One can only lament the tricks fate plays; if it hadn’t been for the grudges of the previous generation, they wouldn’t have met. But without those grudges, if they had inadvertently met amidst the sea of people, would he have noticed her?
Howard Geoffrey...
A heavy coat was suddenly draped over her shoulders.
Rebecca Quentin turned her face when she saw Chester standing beside her.
Chester gently asked, "Why are you here alone? I’ve been looking for you everywhere."
"The air inside isn’t great. I came out alone for some fresh air."
"The wind on the balcony is strong; it’s easy to catch a cold."
"Now that you mention it, I do feel a bit cold... Thank you for the coat." Rebecca Quentin pulled Chester’s coat tightly around herself.
Chester apologized, "I’m sorry, I didn’t anticipate my sister coming." 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
"I know... I think she and Howard came together to appease your uncle."
Chester nodded.
Rebecca Quentin casually asked, "He’s been with your sister for a while now, right?"
Chester answered, "I never pay attention to gossip news."
Rebecca Quentin smiled faintly.
Chester’s gaze suddenly locked onto Rebecca Quentin’s clear eyes and he asked, "Have you been crying?"
Rebecca Quentin shook her head, "No, I just thought of some sad things, but not what you’re thinking." Without an explanation, Chester would definitely assume her mood was affected by Howard, which would only make him more remorseful.
Chester rasped out, "The last time I saw you cry was in the hospital."
"Ha..."
"Becca, I’m sorry I couldn’t save your child back then..."
"You’ve said that to me many times already... I know you did your best, don’t blame yourself anymore."
"Alright, you shouldn’t overthink either... It’s windy on the balcony, let’s go inside, I’ll take you to the hotel."
"Okay."
Rebecca Quentin was about to walk when she suddenly felt a bit dizzy.
Chester saw Rebecca holding her forehead, and quickly asked, "What’s wrong?"
"I don’t know, my head suddenly feels a bit dizzy."
"Maybe it’s because you drank a little, and with the wind, it hit harder."
"It shouldn’t be that bad!" She seemed to have just taken a small sip.
"Can you walk?"
"Yeah."
"Then let me take you back to the hotel first!"
In the car, Rebecca Quentin leaned back in her seat, feeling even dizzier.
