Contract Marriage: Abusive Love with Mr.CEO-Chapter 407 - 216: Reluctant to Let Go (1/2)
As night fell over T City, even its iconic buildings lost their lights, leaving only a few scattered lights flickering in and out.
These sparks mirrored Howard Geoffrey’s current state of mind—so desolate and lonely.
A night without her was destined to be sleepless...
He took a sip of the liquor, letting its icy temperature flood down his throat, bringing a burning sensation.
Suddenly, he violently threw the wine glass away.
The glass hit something hard and shattered instantly; the sound was extraordinarily sharp in the quiet night.
She was his woman, for all his life, she couldn’t dream of leaving him!!
With this thought, Howard Geoffrey took out his phone and dialed a number.
A respectful voice from the villa’s night shift servant answered. "Mr. Geoffrey."
"Is Christine Quinn with Miss Quentin tonight?"
The servant replied, "Miss Quinn visited Miss Quentin for a while but left after receiving a call."
Hanging up the call, Howard Geoffrey grabbed the car keys from his desk and walked straight out of the office.
About half an hour later, Howard Geoffrey returned to the villa.
The night was incredibly quiet; the entire villa was already asleep.
Howard Geoffrey walked to his room, and this time, he opened the door without hesitation.
To his surprise, the room was lit, and she was sitting at the bedside, her gaze already meeting his.
Howard Geoffrey put down his suit jacket, unbuttoned two buttons of his shirt, and walked toward her.
Sitting on the edge of the bed, he gazed at her slightly pale face and asked gently, "So late, why aren’t you asleep?"
Becca Quentin replied indifferently, "I thought you would keep avoiding me."
Howard Geoffrey took her hand from the quilt and enveloped it in his palm, speaking hoarsely, "I don’t want to avoid you; I just wanted to wait until you’re in a better mood to talk."
Becca Quentin looked at Howard Geoffrey coldly, "There’s nothing more for us to talk about... but about Aunt Clare, you must give me an explanation."
Howard Geoffrey confessed easily, "There’s no explanation; everything is just like Christine told you."
"You’re really despicable, Howard Geoffrey." Becca Quentin shook her head in disappointment, her eyes filled with deep pain.
Howard Geoffrey still spoke in a gentle tone, "Everything I did was just to be with you." If this had come to light a year ago, he might have already lost her...
Becca Quentin mocked with a raised corner of her lips, "You’re ridiculous, even thinking we could be together..."
Howard Geoffrey looked sincerely into Becca Quentin’s eyes, his lips parted to speak in a muted voice, "Becca, when you first came to T City alone, I gave up; after resolving ’M’s matters, I gave up again, but when I found out about our second child, I couldn’t let go... I think I may never be able to let go in this lifetime. Whether you’re angry for a day, a month, a year, or all your life, I don’t care; I’ve set my heart on you."
Becca Quentin coldly responded, "I don’t want to hear your meaningless words... I’ll leave here with my sister tomorrow."
Howard Geoffrey chuckled softly, his hoarse voice low and gentle, "No, you won’t leave..."
His voice was devoid of menace, yet it carried an innate assertiveness...
She had a vague premonition of misfortune.
Sure enough, while Becca Quentin frowned in thought, Howard Geoffrey added, "If you’re not afraid of never seeing Aunt Clare again in this lifetime, feel free to leave with Christine..."
"You’re using Aunt Clare to threaten me?"
"You should know I am capable of anything."
"Howard Geoffrey!!!" Becca Quentin gritted her teeth, "You bastard!!"
Howard Geoffrey lightly pecked Becca Quentin’s cheek, "Sweetheart, I’m tired. I’m going to take a shower..."
When Howard Geoffrey came out of the shower, Becca Quentin was no longer in the room.
Frowning, Howard Geoffrey glanced around.
On the terrace, Becca Quentin stood bleakly with her thin frame.
Casually donning a robe, Howard Geoffrey walked toward the terrace.
The temperature at night was lower than during the day, and the occasional chill breeze made Becca Quentin’s silhouette look even more desolate and indifferent.
Howard Geoffrey habitually embraced her from behind...
But, as he wrapped his arms around her, she broke free, turned around, and looked at him with indifferent eyes.
Howard Geoffrey was not at all angry; he still maintained a gentle and handsome expression, his magnetic voice softly spilling out words, "Let’s go to sleep!"
Becca Quentin coolly replied, "I will never share a bed with you again!"
Howard Geoffrey’s brows furrowed slightly, a hint of displeasure in his eyes.
Becca Quentin glared aggressively at Howard Geoffrey, "Don’t you think using Aunt Clare to threaten me only makes me question your humanity even more?"
Howard Geoffrey calmly stated, "How I am as a person has nothing to do with us being together... You want happiness, and I can give you happiness."
Becca Quentin sneered, "You’re wrong. From the moment I met you, my life was doomed to never know happiness."
Becca Quentin’s words were like that biting winter wind, cutting deeply into Howard Geoffrey’s heart.
If he still harbored hopes for a temporary peace between them when he returned from the company, now he understood profoundly that she had started to hate him, and the peace he longed for was likely unattainable.
Still maintaining a calm and gentle expression, Howard Geoffrey suddenly smiled, examined her closely, and softly spoke, "Becca, don’t say such things to me anymore; it won’t feel good for you, and it won’t feel good for me either."
His words, though light, were tinged with a bit of sorrow, sounding so melancholic and sad that they stirred a touch of pain in Becca Quentin’s heart. Yet, her voice remained clear and resolute, "Do you think there’s anything good left to say between us?"
Howard Geoffrey squinted slightly, "Is there really no room for maneuver?"
Becca Quentin mockingly replied, "Not unless you can bring my daddy back to life."
Howard Geoffrey looked at Becca Quentin, his gaze dim, and no one knew how oppressed his state of mind was at that moment.
Becca Quentin met Howard Geoffrey’s dark, deep gaze, repeating her request, "Let me go!"
Howard Geoffrey responded lightly, "Impossible!"
Becca Quentin frowned, angrily retorted, "What right do you have to restrain my freedom?"
