Consequences of Dumping the Obsessive Boss: Stuck with Him Forever-Chapter 80: Tina Huxley’s Unrequited Love
Sinclair Group, top-floor CEO office.
Maxim Sinclair pushed a glass of wine in front of Julian Huxley: "This is the wine you liked when you were in Eldoria last time. It just so happens I have a bottle in my office, so I opened it to entertain you today."
Julian Huxley smiled, took a sip, and then put it down: "I’m here today because there’s something I need to discuss with you."
"I know you have something to discuss with me, go ahead, what is it?" Maxim Sinclair sat down across from him, spreading his right hand.
Julian Huxley straightened up and was about to speak when Assistant Collins, who was organizing files not far away, suddenly walked over, pressing on the Bluetooth in her ear.
Assistant Collins walked to the edge of the sofa, glanced at Julian Huxley opposite, and whispered to Maxim Sinclair: "President Sinclair, Miss Tina is here."
Maxim Sinclair’s face showed a flash of impatience, tapping his right hand on his knee: "Business or personal?"
"Miss Tina has a project in hand, and she didn’t come alone. She brought two people from Omni Industries, saying they want to discuss the land development in City A with you."
"Developing land in City A?" Maxim Sinclair looked up, pondered briefly, and asked, "Wasn’t this supposed to be discussed in detail after winter?"
Assistant Collins nodded: "According to the previous agreement with Mr. Huxley, this project was indeed scheduled for this winter, but from what Miss Tina indicates, it seems the project might be moved up."
Maxim Sinclair glanced at Julian Huxley sitting across from him and was just about to speak when Julian caught on and stood up: "I’m not suited to meet with Tina right now. I wonder if I could find a place to avoid her for a bit?"
"President Huxley, Miss Tina is just outside the office," Assistant Collins called out to Julian Huxley, who was about to leave, then pointed to the lounge area at the back of Maxim Sinclair’s office, "There’s a guest room specifically for resting back here. Mr. Huxley can relax there for a while."
Maxim Sinclair followed to his feet, speaking with an apologetic tone: "Why don’t you wait there for a bit, and I’ll come find you after I’ve sent her off."
"No worries, I’m not in a rush anyway."
Julian Huxley smiled, picked up his wine glass, and followed Assistant Collins to the back.
After settling Julian Huxley, Assistant Collins quickly returned, opened the office door, and ushered in Tina Huxley, who was waiting outside: "Miss Huxley."
Tina Huxley nodded slightly, walked in on her high heels, and headed straight for Maxim Sinclair, who was sitting behind his desk: "Maxim, hope I’m not disturbing you?"
"It’s fine," Maxim Sinclair put down what he was holding, came around from behind his desk, and guided Tina to the sofas by the floor-to-ceiling window, "You came a bit suddenly today. Why didn’t you give me a heads-up?"
"Oh, I had my assistant contact you, but the company has been too busy these past two days. She forgot about it. She only recalled she hadn’t informed your assistant when we were just outside your office. Hope it didn’t disturb you." Tina Huxley placed the thick stack of files she was carrying on the table and sat elegantly opposite Maxim Sinclair.
Once she was settled, she noticed the wine bottle on the table and the half-glass belonging to Maxim Sinclair that hadn’t been put away.
"Were you having wine just now? It’s boring to drink alone," Tina Huxley chuckled and said to Assistant Collins, who was walking over from behind, "Could you bring another wine glass? I’ll have a drink with Maxim."
"Of course, Miss Huxley."
Assistant Collins fetched another wine glass from the shelf and placed it in front of Tina Huxley, pouring her some wine.
Tina Huxley took a small sip from the wine glass, her face filled with delight: "Indeed, wine here is still the best."
Maxim Sinclair sat with legs crossed leisurely, looking at her coolly: "I hear you’re here to discuss the land development project in City A? However, I previously discussed with President Huxley to talk about it in detail after winter."
"Yes, but my dad got new information from a friend. It seems the authorities are planning to reallocate the land in that part of City A very soon. He’s concerned that delays might bring changes and wants to discuss with you if we can move the project up."
Tina Huxley reached for the necessary document with her other hand and pushed it towards him: "This is my dad’s contingency plan, adjusted according to the information gathered. Have a look."
Maxim Sinclair sat up straight, picked up the file, glanced through it quickly, then turned and instructed the assistant standing behind: "Find someone to verify the information and confirm whether President Huxley’s report is accurate."
"Understood." Assistant Collins nodded, walked aside with the phone, and started to make arrangements.
Maxim Sinclair closed the file and said to Tina Huxley: "This isn’t a small project. Let me arrange for my team to verify it first. If the information is accurate, we’ll proceed with further discussions."
Knowing she couldn’t rush things, Tina Huxley agreed cheerfully: "Alright! It’s true your connections in City A are broader, so the information you gather will be more accurate."
As she spoke, Tina Huxley raised her glass again, lingering over the point: "This wine must be aged. You wouldn’t bring out such good wine just for guests, would you? Anyone else here before me?"
Assistant Collins, who had just ended a call and walked over, hesitated slightly, then returned to normal immediately.
So perceptive?
Good thing President Sinclair isn’t interested in her; otherwise, she’d be a handful.
Maxim Sinclair didn’t respond to Tina Huxley’s implication, gesturing for Assistant Collins to collect the documents from the table. He then said to Tina, whose face visibly showed slight embarrassment: "We can discuss further once the project is confirmed to start early. I have an important meeting later, so I won’t keep you today. See you."
With his firm directive to leave, Tina Huxley couldn’t possibly insist on staying: "Alright, then. I’ll be off."
As soon as she walked out of the office, Julian Huxley emerged from the guest room: "What a scene, unrequited love!"
Maxim Sinclair sat back on the sofa: "When did you develop the habit of eavesdropping on others’ conversations?"
"Just to clarify, I wasn’t intentionally eavesdropping," Julian Huxley quickly explained, "The words you two said just poured into my ears."
"Inconveniencing you, then?" Maxim Sinclair saw his wine glass was empty and refilled it, "Since coming back, you haven’t met Tina, right?"
"No," Julian Huxley admitted freely, "The young lady is still as beautiful as always, and just as she’s unrequitedly in love with you."
Maxim Sinclair smiled knowingly: "I’ve both openly and subtly indicated to her many times that she and I are impossible."
"She’s not one to give up," Julian Huxley sighed, shaking his head, "Especially given her proud nature. She usually doesn’t take to ordinary men, and now with someone as exceptionally outstanding as you before her, she has even less interest in others."
"There are always greater men, and I’m not the only excellent one."
Maxim Sinclair downed half the glass of wine, "To business, what do you want to discuss with me today?"
