Consequences of Dumping the Obsessive Boss: Stuck with Him Forever-Chapter 168: Honeymoon Trip with Mrs. Sinclair
Ever since the last time Summer Lowell shredded documents in his office, whenever the topic of Justin Huxley comes up between them, it’s bound to be unpleasant.
Over time, Maxim Sinclair refrained from mentioning the person he utterly despised in front of her.
However, today he couldn’t hold back and spoke harshly because he encountered Justin Huxley coincidentally during a business engagement.
Justin Huxley, for some inexplicable reason, had to come over and deliberately provoked him with words.
Maxim Sinclair suppressed his frustration, but seeing Summer still looking dispirited and defeated when he got home, he couldn’t help but say a few more words.
As soon as he spoke, he regretted it because he genuinely didn’t want his relationship with Summer to remain strained.
Feeling helpless, Maxim Sinclair tugged at the tie around his neck, remained silent for a while, and then, staring at the scenery outside, spoke to Summer, who was also staring out the window in a daze: "I’ve been less busy at work recently. I asked my assistant to arrange a short trip. I noticed you haven’t been in great spirits lately, so I thought of taking you to relax a bit."
Summer immediately refused: "I’m fine staying at home painting. If you want to unwind, go by yourself; you don’t need to bring me along."
Maxim Sinclair’s tone was even more assertive: "This is our honeymoon trip after marriage. You have no choice but to go. We’ll head to the airport tomorrow morning. I’ve booked a place on an island in the Southern Hemisphere. Only extraordinary people can vacation on that island. Behave and don’t entertain any thoughts you shouldn’t have."
"Since you’ve already decided, why bother telling me? My opinion doesn’t matter anyway." Summer picked up the pen that had fallen during their argument and continued to doodle aimlessly on the paper.
Maxim Sinclair stood behind her, his gaze following her movements, remaining silent for a long time.
...
Summer stopped walking, ignoring the probing glances from people around, and looked up at Maxim Sinclair, who was firmly holding her shoulder, speaking to him in a gentle tone: "With you holding me like this, it’s uncomfortable to walk. I’ve come with you, so I definitely won’t wander off. Could you let go of your hand?"
"Does holding your shoulder make you uncomfortable?" Maxim Sinclair nodded in understanding, his hand sliding down from her shoulder along her arm to loosely encircle her waist, "Then I’ll hold your waist. Stop dawdling; it’s almost boarding time."
Summer’s expression was full of impatience and helplessness.
Seeing her annoyance, Maxim Sinclair felt uneasy, too. Somehow, he recalled the provocative words Justin Huxley had said to him last time.
Does she really dislike being with me?
Compared to being with me, would she prefer seeking out Justin Huxley?
Maxim Sinclair dismissed his rising anger and led Summer forward: "This airport is crowded. I’m worried someone might bump into you."
Summer found his reason laughable: "I’m an adult, not a toddler. If you’re going to make excuses, at least come up with a reasonable one."
Maxim Sinclair pretended not to hear, clasping Summer’s waist, guiding her toward the boarding gate.
In first class, Summer looked at her seat, then at his, and putting on a sleep mask, she wrapped herself in a blanket and fell into a deep sleep.
When she awoke again, they were close to their destination.
Maxim Sinclair handed Summer a glass of lemon water as she awoke from the jostling: "Don’t sleep anymore. The plane will land in about ten minutes. Have some water to refresh yourself. A pleasant holiday is about to begin."
Having slept nearly the entire journey, Summer felt her throat was indeed a bit dry, so she took the cup and sipped the water absentmindedly.
Beside her, Maxim Sinclair, after waking her up, turned back to continue dealing with work.
Summer watched coldly from the side, and suddenly said, "With how busy you are, why even bother coming out to play?"
Maxim Sinclair seemed not to hear and continued flipping through his files, and after about six or seven minutes, he picked up a pen and quickly jotted down a few words.
He then leisurely organized all the documents on the table, putting them into his briefcase.
Just then, the plane gradually descended, and with everything sorted, Maxim Sinclair finally turned to address Summer’s earlier complaint: "This is an island you once told me about. It’s beautiful here. I wanted this to be our honeymoon spot. I’m sure you’ll love it."
As Summer gazed at the painting-like beautiful blue sky outside, she felt a sense of amazement mixed with regret. If only she had come with Maxim Sinclair before.
She would have been happier then.
After leaving the airport, Maxim Sinclair brought Summer into a car that had been waiting for some time. Watching the scenery slowly pass by the car window, Summer nonchalantly inquired of Maxim Sinclair: "I remember you told me before we came that only extraordinary people can enter this island. What does that mean?"
"This island was privately developed by a wealthy foreign individual. The Sinclair Family has business dealings with them, which is why we can enter. Didn’t you notice that there aren’t many tourists on this island?"
"I noticed. I thought it might be the off-peak season for tourism." Summer turned back to continue staring out the window, feeling a bit irritated. She had to admit Maxim Sinclair had guessed right.
When she first learned about going on a foreign island trip, the thought of escaping had indeed crossed her mind.
But given the current situation, her desire to take the opportunity to escape was fading.
Since Maxim Sinclair emphasized it so deliberately, he surely would have made preparations.
She figured it was better not to resist needlessly, at least not this time. If she truly angered Maxim Sinclair, given his impulsive nature, who knows what might happen.
Upon arriving at the hotel, Summer used the long flight as an excuse to claim exhaustion and went straight to bed in the room.
Having nothing better to do, Maxim Sinclair took the opportunity to connect with Charles Jenson, who was overwhelmed with work back home, to conduct a video conference and guide him on how to manage the workload.
Meanwhile back home, Justin Huxley used the excuse of delivering items to Tina Huxley’s father to visit the Huxley Estate.
After dinner, Justin Huxley used the pretext of bringing fruit to Tina, finding her gloomy and lost in thought while sitting on the swing in the garden.
"Why do you look so unhappy?"
Tina greeted him upon his arrival, then fell silent again.
After a while, under Justin Huxley’s persistent questioning, she finally spoke: "Why is Maxim Sinclair so annoying! On one hand, he behaves intimately with me at the party, making it seem like I was about to become the mistress of the Sinclair Family. But then he openly informs everyone that there’s someone else in that position. Now I can’t even face casual gatherings, fearing ridicule."
"Who dares to laugh at you? Tell me, and I’ll make sure to set things right for you."
