Clumsy Beast, Keep Your Paws Off-Chapter 399: Rong Ye’s Awe for His Fierce Female
Su Qinglan had just managed to pop her head above the surface when something enormous crashed into her.
The world spun.
Water rushed into her nose and mouth as she was dragged straight back under. Salt filled her throat. She flailed, trying to remember which way was up, but all she could see was white fur and bubbles.
"I am not dying like this," she thought furiously as she swallowed a mouthful of seawater. "Not under a stupid fox!"
She was just about to elbow the heavy weight off her when suddenly...
Strong, sturdy arms wrapped around her waist.
For one brief second, she felt relief.
Oh good. At least he has a conscience.
Then...
Her lips were suddenly sealed by something warm and firm. Her eyes flew open underwater.
Right in front of her was Rong Ye’s enlarged, slightly distorted face, his eyes shut tight in absolute determination. His brows were furrowed like he was in the middle of a life or death rescue mission.
He was kissing her underwater with dramatic intensity.
She froze.
Was he trying to give her air?
Her brain short circuited for a full second.
She was not even drowning.
She had just jumped in on purpose.
Before she could process the stupidity of the situation, Rong Ye pressed closer, holding her tighter as if afraid she would float away. His lips remained firmly locked to hers, and instead of giving her air, he seemed to be enthusiastically stealing what little breath she had left.
Her lungs began to burn.
Her eyes widened in outrage.
You absolute idiot!
She grabbed his shoulders and tried to push him away, but Rong Ye held on like a heroic fool who believed he was performing the greatest sacrifice of his life.
He even angled his head slightly, as if improving the rescue.
That was it.
Her thoughts turned chaotic with lack of oxygen.
"I am not drowning, you overgrown fox! Get the hell out of the water!"
Of course, she could not actually scream underwater, which made her even angrier.
Meanwhile, Rong Ye seemed fully prepared to pass out for love. His brows were knitted with resolve. If drowning together was romantic, then he was apparently committed.
Her vision started to blur slightly from lack of air.
Fine. If gentle pushing did not work, violence it was.
Without hesitation, Su Qinglan drew up her knee and kicked him hard between the legs.
Even underwater, the impact was effective.
Rong Ye’s eyes snapped open so wide they almost popped out. A stream of shocked bubbles burst from his mouth. His grip loosened instantly as his entire body stiffened.
If he could have howled, he would have.
Instead, more bubbles escaped in a pathetic trail.
Before he could recover or attempt another heroic kiss, Su Qinglan grabbed his arm firmly.
She kicked powerfully with her legs.
Years of swimming practice were not wasted. Even with a heavy, stunned big man attached to her, she angled her body upward and surged toward the surface.
Rong Ye, still clutching himself in agony, could only blink in dazed confusion as he was dragged like oversized luggage.
A few seconds later...
They burst out of the water.
Su Qinglan gasped loudly, sucking in air like she had just run a marathon.
Rong Ye followed, coughing and sputtering, his ears flattened and expression utterly wronged.
In his mind, everything he had done made perfect sense. He had truly believed she was about to die.
When he saw her jump from that terrifying height into the sea, his heart had nearly stopped. In his understanding of the world, females were delicate. They were not allowed near even shallow rivers without supervision, let alone a vast, roaring sea.
He himself had barely seen the ocean before. Swimming was not natural to him, but he was a powerful beastman. Adapting was instinct. Surviving was instinct.
But Su Qinglan?
In his thoughts, if she fell into deep water, she would sink immediately.
She would panic, swallow water, and eventually suffocate and die.
So when he crashed into her and felt her body go limp for that brief second underwater, his mind concluded the worst.
She had passed out.
Without hesitation, he had wrapped her up and pressed his lips to hers, determined to give her his breath. He had once heard elders say that if a female could not breathe, you must pass her air mouth to mouth.
He had been ready to sacrifice all his oxygen if needed.
But now...
Now he was watching that same fragile female tread water with strong, steady movements. Her arms cut through the sea smoothly. Her legs kicked powerfully beneath the surface.
She looked like a female from the sea, and a very angry one.
Rong Ye blinked.
Then blinked again.
Shock slowly turned into awe.
His Lan Lan could swim?
Not only swim, she swam beautifully.
The sunlight reflected off the water droplets on her face. Her wet hair clung to her cheeks. Her eyes sparkled with life and fire.
His expression gradually changed.
From stunned.
To amazed.
To something dangerously soft and proud.
It was the look of a devoted fan who had just discovered his idol could do something incredible.
"That’s my female," his heart whispered.
Before she could scold him again, Rong Ye suddenly reached out and pulled her closer.
Su Qinglan barely had time to react before his arms circled her waist again.
This time, when his lips found hers, it was not a desperate rescue. It was affectionate and full of overwhelming emotion.
For a split second, she stiffened, ready to push him away again and scold him properly.
But then she remembered his ridiculous, heroic expression underwater.
She remembered how serious he had been and how terrified.
Her anger melted into something else.
Fine.
If he wanted to kiss, then she would kiss properly.
She grabbed his soaked shoulder and pulled him down toward her.
Their lips met firmly, directly, almost fiercely.
If his first kiss had been foolish, this one was punishment.
Rong Ye’s eyes widened slightly when she bit his lower lip.
He hissed softly and pulled back just enough to look at her, violet eyes watery and pitiful.
"Lan Lan," he complained in a low voice, "why did you bite me?"
She glared at him, still holding his shoulder.
"What were you doing kissing me underwater?" she shot back. "Do you want to drown me?"
He immediately shook his head hard, water droplets flying everywhere.
"No! I thought you would die if you fell in!" he said urgently. "Females are not allowed in rivers! This is the sea! It is huge! You jumped from so high!"
His brows furrowed in genuine distress.
"I heard if females cannot breathe, we must pass them breath. I thought I thought you had stopped breathing."
His voice softened at the end. There was no teasing now, only honest fear.
Su Qinglan stared at him suspiciously and then sighed. He was not entirely wrong. They must have been scared because of her reckless action.
After all, they did not know that she could actually swim.
This clumsy fox must have really believed she would die the second she touched water.
For a moment, she did not know whether to laugh or hug him, so she did both. She flicked his forehead lightly.
"Idiot," she muttered.
Then she wrapped her arms around his neck, floating calmly in the sea.
"I will not die that easily."
