Chapter 397: Chapter 397: Blocked at the Shore

On the other hand, Su Qinglan was so invested in running towards the shore that she did not even realize that her cubs were following her.

And soon the little cubs were left behind and they could only run while sniffing her scent because she had disappeared from their sight.

Xiao Er stopped and growled at his brother, "Brother, we should go back. Or mommy will scold us!" And Xiao San also nodded. "Yeah, better go back."

But Xiao Yi waved his paws. "No worries, we will just peek and come back!"

Xiao Yi was not afraid at all. He had roamed here with his mother countless times and he even remembered the way back home. And most importantly he knew this place was completely safe.

The beastmen here were all friendly and all of them gave him tasty snacks.

So nothing would happen to them.

Xiao Yi looked at his two younger brothers with disdain. "What are you afraid of? We have to protect Mommy."

"Now we are big boys. How could you allow Mommy to run away like this? Let’s go!"

And Xiao Er and Xiao San thought about it and realized he was right. Now they were big, they had to keep their mother safe.

Clearly not realizing that if they got caught, a good spanking was waiting for them.

With full gusto the three brothers set off again while sniffing their mother’s scent.

At the shore, five hundred meters away from sand, Xuan Long was gazing darkly at the mermen in front of him with a dark gaze.

This weakling dared to stop him from meeting his female. He really wanted to throw them away and clear his path.

But he knew he could not create trouble, so he silently loomed over them, clearly in a threatening manner, as Bo Jian was talking to them.

Bo Jian had already transformed from his big ocra form and was explaining to the patrol warriors that he was Lan Yue’s mate and now he had come to take her back.

But the mermen got offended. Where did this trashy male come from? He was actually asking for the female of their young tribe leader.

Was he not asking for a beating?

Aside from the tribe leader, the tribe did not know at all that the tribe leader had known Lan Yue before.

In their minds, they had just rescued two beautiful females and now they were theirs to protect.

They had already become the females of their tribe. How could they allow any wild males to come and claim that they were here for the female?

Had their brains been bitten by mad fish that they would even allow them? All of the men wanted to drive these powerful beastmen away.

And this snake too, whose eyes were so cold and his constantly flickering tongue seemed like he wanted to swallow them at any point.

The standoff at the shore was getting more heated by the second. Bo Jian wiped the saltwater from his face, trying his best to keep his voice steady despite the growing urge to just smash through the patrol.

"Listen to me carefully," Bo Jian said, his voice echoing over the waves. "I am not here to fight. Lan Yue is my mate. We have traveled a very long way to find her. Just let us pass so we can see her."

The lead merman warrior, a tall male with shimmering blue scales on his tail, gripped his bone spear tighter. He looked at Bo Jian with pure disdain.

"What nonsense are you barking?" the merman hissed. "Lan Yue and the other female were rescued by our Young Tribe Leader. They belong to our tribe now."

Behind Bo Jian, Han Jue’s eyes turned red with anger. "Do you think you can decide that?"

The mermen shuddered. The pressure coming from this man was chilling. It felt like he was suddenly transported to a freezing land.

Xuan Long did not even bother with words. He loomed over the patrol like a dark shadow.

Every time his tongue flicked out, the mermen jumped back in fear. He looked like he was deciding which one of them would taste better for lunch.

"Move," Xuan Long hissed. The simple word made the patrol’s hearts skip a beat.

But Rong Ye was the one who finally snapped.

He had spent days swimming. His fur was soaked, his skin felt itchy from the salt. His clothes still smelled like seawater.

He had almost grown gills from staying in water for so long.

And now?

These fish were blocking him? He was tired, hungry, and most of all, he missed Su Qinglan so much it hurt.

"That is enough talk!" Rong Ye roared.

Before the merman could react, Rong Ye leaped forward with explosive speed. He grabbed the lead merman by his neck, lifting him right out of the water.

"I have had enough of your fishy smell and your stupid rules!" Rong Ye barked, his claws digging slightly into the merman’s neck.

"We traveled through storms and sea monsters to get here. If you do not move in three seconds, I am going to start throwing you guys back into the deep ocean one by one!"

The other mermen pointed their spears at Rong Ye, but their hands were shaking. They had never seen land beastmen this fierce or powerful.

Shi Feng and Hu Yan stood slightly back, watching the chaos. They were the calm ones, but their expressions were anything but friendly.

Shi Feng adjusted his stance, his eyes cold and calculating as he scanned for the mermen’s weak spots.

Hu Yan, usually the most rational, did not try to stop his brothers. He had a dark shadow over his face. His claws were already extended, glinting under the sun.

"Bo Jian," Hu Yan said softly, his voice full of hidden threat. "Give the word. If they will not let us walk in, we will just pave a path with their bloody scales."
