Clumsy Beast, Keep Your Paws Off-Chapter 344: Something is wrong with Xuan Long
Xuan Long stood like a statue in the middle of the destruction. His eyes were bloodshot, and his breathing was shallow.
He looked at Su Qinglan, who was still holding the unconscious Shi Feng and channeling her green light into him.
He looked at her but found himself confused; he couldn’t focus on anything...even when she was right in front of him. He felt like he was going into a trance.
He didn’t explain the fight. He didn’t say anything at all.
"Hu Yan," Xuan Long said, his voice sounding like it was coming from deep underground. "Take care of her."
Everyone knew whom he was referring to; even Su Qinglan was stunned...what just happened?
Before anyone could react, Xuan Long turned around. Without a single glance back, he leaped into the thickest part of the forest and disappeared. He moved with a speed that left a trail of cold wind behind.
"Xuan Long!" Su Qinglan shouted, her voice echoing through the clearing.
Even little Xiao San stood up in the basket, hissing loudly as if calling for his father to come back. But the forest remained silent. Xuan Long did not return. It was the first time he had ever turned his back on her and walked away.
Su Qinglan sat there, stunned and hurt. She didn’t understand why he was acting like this.
Was he truly that angry?
Or was he ashamed because of Shi Feng’s words?
She felt a wave of exhaustion hit her, but she forced herself to snap out of it. There was no time for a marriage crisis when a man was bleeding out in her arms.
She looked at her other husbands, her eyes full of sharpness. "Lift him up," she pointed at Shi Feng. "We are going back to the tribe immediately. He needs more treatment, or the dirt in these gashes will cause a deadly infection."
Hu Yan, Han Jue, and Rong Ye didn’t dare to say a single word of protest.
They had seen Su Qinglan angry before, and they knew that if they crossed her now, she might actually kick them out of the house.
They remembered the last time they had clashed with the lions; she had been very clear about her rules.
Rong Ye looked at the fallen Lion King and muttered under his breath, "Is Xuan Long really going to be kicked out of the nest for this? Fighting that lion until he’s half-dead..."
Su Qinglan’s head snapped toward him, her glare so fierce it could have set the trees on fire.
She didn’t say a word, but Rong Ye immediately felt a chill down his spine. He quickly reached down and grabbed the basket of cubs.
"Cubs, let’s go home!" Rong Ye said nervously, trying to sound cheerful. "Father Rong Ye will take you back safely." 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
He started walking ahead of everyone else, partly because he was afraid of Su Qinglan’s temper and partly because he absolutely refused to touch the Lion King. He didn’t want any of that golden fur on his hands.
However, he didn’t get very far. Hu Yan reached out and grabbed the back of Rong Ye’s neck, yanking him back.
"Where do you think you’re going? Did you forget Lan Lan’s legs are tired? Turn into your beast form and carry her and the cubs."
"Oh... right," Rong Ye mumbled. He immediately transformed into his large, fluffy beast form. He stayed very quiet, not daring to meet Su Qinglan’s eyes as she climbed onto his back with the cubs.
Hu Yan also transformed into his massive tiger form. He stood steady while Han Jue lifted the heavy, unconscious body of Shi Feng and draped him across Hu Yan’s broad back.
It was a humiliating sight...the great Lion King being carried like a sack of grain by a tiger...but it was the only way to get him back fast.
Finally, Han Jue transformed into his swift wolf form. He took the lead, his nose to the wind, guiding the group back toward the Fox Tribe.
As they moved through the forest, the silence was heavy. Su Qinglan sat on Rong Ye’s back, her hand resting on the cubs, but her eyes were fixed on the deep shadows where Xuan Long had vanished.
Her heart was a mess. She was angry at Shi Feng for his arrogance, she was angry at Xuan Long for his violence and for leaving her, and she was angry at her other husbands for not helping sooner.
Is this what it means to be a female in this world? she thought bitterly. Men fighting until they are broken, just to prove who is ’strongest,’ while the real enemy is at our gates?
She tightened her grip on the cubs. She didn’t care about "strongest" or "kings."
All she wanted was for her family to be safe and for her husbands to stop acting like wild animals.
But as she looked at the blood on Shi Feng’s golden hair and remembered Xuan Long’s bloodshot eyes, she took a deep breath, sighing to herself.
As they neared the tribe, Su Qinglan leaned down and whispered urgently into Rong Ye’s ear. "Don’t go to the center. Go directly to our home from the backside. We cannot alert the tribe. It would be a disaster if the Lion warriors saw their king like this."
The husbands understood the gravity of the situation. If the Lion Tribe saw Shi Feng beaten and bloody, a war would break out before the beast tide even arrived.
They moved through the back of the mountain...avoiding the main paths, and finally arrived at their large treehouse.
"Rong Ye, take the cubs inside and feed them immediately," Su Qinglan ordered as she slid off his back. She didn’t wait for him to answer. Her face was blank, but her heart...
They brought the unconscious Shi Feng into their treehouse. Su Qinglan immediately knelt by his side. She reached out to peel away his dried, blood-clotted fur clothes to reach the deep gashes on his chest.
Han Jue’s eyes flickered with jealousy and concern. He couldn’t bear the sight of his female touching another male so intimately, even for healing.
He stepped in front of her, gently blocking her hands.
"Lan Lan, let me do it," he said softly. "You just focus on your energy. Hu Yan and I will clean him."
