CLEAVER OF SIN-Chapter 606: Virelass’ Decision
With his decapitation, Debro’s headless corpse plummeted from the sky gently, the head trailing beside it, and within seconds, it hit hard against the liquefied earth with a heavy thud that echoed faintly across the ruined battlefield.
Asher stared at the body from above, his eyes shimmering purple as he simply watched in silence, the weight of the battle settling upon him. The next moment, his Star Form flickered gently, the five-minute mark reaching its limit immediately upon Debro’s death, the power sustaining him collapsing without resistance.
Star Form vanished, his Lightning Armour vanished, and all body enhancements vanished too, the lightning augmentation, the light speed boost, the gravity reduction, it all disappeared at once like a fading illusion. The moment it all vanished, Asher’s body plummeted as gravity reclaimed him, but before he could even react, exhaustion claimed him entirely and he immediately lost consciousness midair as he fell from the sky without resistance.
His body twirled as he fell, his purple hair dancing wildly due to the wind current. At this moment, his face was pale, his entire body weak and devoid of strength. Virelass vanished from his right hand and appeared beside him, and even if Asher had hit the ground with such speed and momentum, he would have remained unharmed, after all, the ridiculous physique of those at the Swiftstar Life Rank was insane by all measures.
But still, Virelass wouldn’t allow him to hit the earth just like that, not like how Debro had. And with that, she appeared under him, catching Asher by the back with her flat side, halting his descent entirely with perfect control, then she slowly floated downward and placed Asher gently on the ground with delicate ease, then vanished again and reappeared above him, hovering silently.
Virelass hummed as she floated above him as though trying to communicate mentally with him, but she got no reply. This was the first time she was seeing Asher faint, the concept seemed almost foreign to her existence, yes, she had seen Asher sleep countless times, but fainting was something entirely different, something unfamiliar.
But she knew she couldn’t leave Asher here, what if someone else came, whatever organization Debro was from could already have someone racing here the moment Debro died. Since Asher had fainted and was unable to make a decision, Virelass made it herself, her decision lying between the Star Academy or the Wargrave Ducal territory.
The answer was easy to Virelass, she chose the Wargrave Ducal territory without hesitation, and with that, she activated her Position Marker ability, and in a silver blur, she vanished alongside the unconscious Asher, leaving behind nothing but silent devastation.
They appeared within Asher’s room, his body landing on the ground with a gentle thud. The moment Asher and Virelass appeared, a presence far away noticed their sudden arrival, and it was Yveric, the Knight Commander of the Wargrave Knight Order.
He vanished from where he stood and appeared instantly in Asher’s room. Throughout the times Asher had come here during his missions, he had always sensed Asher but never came to see him, there had simply been no need to do so.
Yveric immediately bent down and lifted Asher onto the bed with steady hands, his expression unchanged. The next moment, he called Lyra, who was in her room cultivating. In the next instant, Lyra burst into Asher’s room with immense speed, her presence sharp and urgent. Seeing her master lying unconscious, she turned to the Knight Commander and asked in an angry tone, forgetting she was speaking to a Crownstar Life Ranker.
"What happened?" Lyra asked, her tone hard, filled with worry and a mix of killing intent that leaked uncontrollably.
"I don’t know, I sensed him teleporting here as usual, but his presence felt different, so I came here myself and found him unconscious on the ground," Yveric explained calmly, unbothered by Lyra’s tone as he understood the source of her anger and disrespect.
He walked forward, his gloved right hand landing on Asher’s chest as he channeled his Astra energy throughout Asher’s body as though trying to find any injuries or abnormalities, but he found nothing out of place, no internal damage, no external threat.
"It seems he just came back from a huge battle that took a significant toll on his mind, his body is perfectly fine," Yveric stated, then turned towards Lyra as he continued, "I will call the mental healer just in case and for them to conduct a thorough examination," he paused briefly, then added, "and I will be contacting the First Sun," he concluded with finality before walking out without a change in expression.
Although Yveric wanted to call Duke Azaron, he felt the man was probably busy and might not return simply because his son had fainted. But the First Sun, who was deeply attached to his siblings, would most likely arrive immediately without hesitation.
Lyra didn’t reply to Yveric’s words, she wasn’t concerned about the healers who could treat physical injuries, she already knew about Virelass’s ability to heal. Her black eyes turned towards Virelass, who simply floated silently as she hummed faintly.
She wanted to ask the rapier what had happened, she wanted to know who was responsible for putting her master in such a state, but she couldn’t, she knew asking was useless, after all, it was well known that Soul-bound weapons couldn’t communicate with anyone aside from their masters, or with another Soul-bound weapon that was at least semi-sentient.
She sat down beside Asher on the bed, a drop of tear threatening to fall from her eyes, but she held it back firmly. Her mind couldn’t help but drift to Asher’s childhood memories, to when he was still young. The boy had always been the most handsome Wargrave, his perfect skin, his perfectly arranged hair, the only time she had ever seen him even remotely unclean was whenever he returned sweating from training.
But now, that same Asher lay before her, his body covered in black soot, sand, and dirt, his clothes torn apart, his clothes and body stained with his own blood, a stark contrast to the image she held in her memories.
The next moment, she immediately got to work, rising from the bed with urgency. With a wave of her hand, a new set of Asher’s clothes appeared from her space ring. As Asher’s personal maid, she was always prepared, she always carried multiple sets of his clothes in her space ring, clothes of all types, after all, she never knew when he would need them.
With that, she carefully removed the ones he wore, and with another wave of her hand, Astra energy bent to her will as she cleansed Asher through refined control, removing every trace of dirt and blood from his body. Then she changed him into a new set of clothes with careful ease.
With that done, she took a couple of steps back and simply stood there, her black eyes fixed on him as though she wouldn’t be leaving this room until her master woke up, as though if she mistakenly took her eyes off him for even a split second, his unconscious body might vanish into nothingness.
