Chapter 158: She’s gone. My condolences

As soon as Eliana picked up her tray, Tiana started convulsing, all to Valerie’s horror.

She hurried to her and asked the nurse.

"What’s going on? What did you do?" She asked but Eliana gritted her teeth. That wasn’t supposed to happen.

"I... I’ll go get the doctor." She said, intending to use that opportunity to escape but Valerie had other plans.

"No, cease her. Someone else should go get the doctor right away."

Two guards dashed out of there to get the doctor while another grabbed Eliana.

’Shit. I have to get away.’ She thought. ’I need a distraction.’

The tray in her hand had alcohol-based disinfectant, so she decided to start a fire.

She managed to grab the disinfectant and took out the lighter she had prepared to use to burn the syringe she would use to inject the poison and cause Valerie’s supposed death.

If she managed to set the fire, she would be able to escape while everyone was confused.

She waited for the perfect opportunity.

Tiana suddenly stopped convulsing and lay lifeless.

"What... What’s happening? What did you do? What did you give her?" She asked but Eliana saw this as an opportunity.

She used the little freedom her hand had to smash the bottle of disinfectant on Tiana and threw the lighter on her right away.

Valerie’s eyes widened as the fire went up on Tiana.

"No, no. Put it out. Put it out." She yelled, slapping the fire with her bare hands but it was hot and burned her.

The head guard saved Valerie first, taking her as his main priority, and carried her away from the fire while the other guards searched for a fire extinguisher.

"Put out the fire right away. Put it off." Valerie yelled.

The guards broke the fire extinguisher out of the emergency vault and used it to put out the fire, but by then, Tiana’s chest was already burned, and so was her face.

She has stopped breathing.

Somewhere, in Max’s father’s residence, where he was living with his new wife, Stevens mother and their new born child, the mug he was holding, the very one Tiana had gifted him on his last birthday they spent together, fell from his hand and broke.

He looked at it, stunned, and then, he felt his heart quake.

’Ah, what’s this?’ he thought, bending down to pick up the pieces. He stared at it with a sorrowful look in his eyes and muttered. "Tiana."

Back at the hospital, Valerie stared at Tiana’s body with horror-filled eyes.

"N-no, no. It can’t be." The guard let Valerie down and she walked towards Tiana’s body. "No, this can’t be happening. It’s not real, right?" She smiled. "Haha, it’s a nightmare, isn’t it?"

But then, she heard Eliana’s laughter ring from the side which gave her chills. That voice... It was definitely... She turned to see the skin on Eliana’s face melting because it was exposed to that much heat.

She was still caught by the guard and could not escape, no matter what she did. He was as thick as a rock.

She took it off, exposed her true identity, and laughed like a maniac.

"I guess it was worth it after all." She said. "It’s so good to see you suffer and become crazy with pain. Killing someone close to you has never felt so good." She laughed.

Valerie stared at Lucy in horror and then that horror turned into bitterness and anger.

"Why can’t you just die and leave me be?" She yelled. "Why do you still torture me in my dreams?"

"Oh, you still believe this is reality. Opened your eyes." Her face grew crazy. "This is real. She’s dead. Hahahaha."

Valerie shook her head, refusing to believe it.

She kept shaking her head, and everything started ringing in her head. Lucy’s laughter, the guard’s concern as they called for immediate assistance.

It was all turning around in circles.

"Did... Did you do that too?" Valerie asked.

"Are you talking about your dear husband? Haha, I wish I did." She said and laughed. "But if you want to know about that, ask my precious fiance."

The doctor walked in right away and rushed towards Tiana, taking out his stethoscope to check her heartbeat.

Valerie watched him and he shook his head.

"She’s gone." He sadly said, shaking his head. "My condolences."

Valerie’s heartbeat became so loud that it replaced the voices in the background. The doctor recorded the time of death and the rest while Valerie could not feel anything but anger and hate.

Suddenly, she took out the gun from one of the guards, pointing at Eliana.

"I don’t believe you’ll be able to come back from the dead with a bullet in your head." She said and cocked the gun.

"Really? Do you think you can kill me in front of these many people and get away with it?" Eliana provoked her and laughed. "Well, if you’re going to do it, get on with it already." She grinned.

Valerie gritted her teeth. What to do? What to do?

Her head was ringing.

She fired at Lucy’s left leg and then the right leg.

Lucy screamed in agony, and Valerie pushed the gun back at the owner.

"Take care of it." She said and walked out of there with everyone staring at her. Her head was a mess and her heart... It was ripping apart.

Dead? How? This must be a nightmare.

She couldn’t believe it. Any of it. What was going on? How? Just how did things come to this?

She walked ahead a bit, and when she couldn’t walk any further because of how suffocated she felt and how much her heart hurt, she rested on the wall and cried as she slowly slid down to her knees.

She cried so bitterly that her face flooded with her own tears.

Just how did things come to this?

How did she end up losing Tiana as well? How? Isr how?

If Max woke up and knew this, he would be devastated. And then Mariam, how would she feel?

They both just got their mother back and now she had to die because of her. Why?

Then, someone stood before her. She raised her head and saw it was Chris Romaine. What was he doing there?

"Won’t you take my hand, child?" He asked, reaching his hand out to her. "You won’t have to lose anything from now on."

"You’re not God." Valerie said and got up, her tears still streaming down. "You’re nobody so stay away from me. Your presence adds even more pain to me. Your presence-"

"...can help keep you safe."

Valerie went silent.

She didn’t need him. She didn’t need his help.

"I won’t leave my husband. I won’t leave him, not when he’s passing through this because of me."

"And he will be in more threats with you around him." He said. "Your unborn child and your husband will both suffer because of the people who want you dead. Come under my wings and I will make them all disappear."
