Chasing The Vengeful Villainous Heiress-Chapter 150: Let’s hope it’s a prank
As soon as they entered the office, Max shut the door and grabbed Valerie by the waist.
"Easy." She said as he stuffed his face on her neck, tracing light and gentle kisses. "I... I’m glad you came." She managed to say, squinting her eyes as she tried to hold herself from caving into his pleasure. "How did you know what was going on?"
"I just kept my eyes out for you, that’s all." He said and glanced at her with hungry eyes. "But it was originally in my plan to come over. I just happened to meet that snake making trouble."
"So, you were plotting something behind my back and didn’t even think to tell me?" She asked, punching his nose and he smiled widely, his full teeth on display. He looked so goofy that she had to just let it go. "That means it was all a coincidence." She said and he nodded.
"By the way, did you really intend to give me that as a birthday present?" He asked, referring to the shares and she shook her head.
"Of course not. That was just a farce." She said and he laughed.
"So, what are you getting me for my birthday?" He asked, slowly unbuttoning her top. "Should I expect you wrapped in gift wrappings with nothing underneath?" He asked and she pushed his face.
"You and your naughty thoughts. Can’t you just expect a normal present for once?" She asked and he licked her hand.
"Hm, let’s see. I have it all. What could you possibly give me?" He asked and she paused, slowly lowering her head.
"Something you want so much that only I can give." She said and he paused.
Something only she can give? What was that?
"Ah, it’s you, isn’t he?" He asked. "You want to wrap yourself in gift wrappings after all."
Well, it was close. But what she would give him was something other than that. She hoped it was there. He would be overjoyed, right?
His birthday was coming up in a week and though it didn’t look like he would celebrate it, she wanted to make it special.
"Really, why doesn’t an heir to Stewart’s fortune, a core representative at that, hold grand parties during his party?" She asked, wrapping her arms around him and he laughed it off.
"They’re just useless." He said. "I would rather spend my birthdays silently with the people I hold dear and not throw extravagant nonsense to please unknown people. For all I know, they could use that chance to stab me in the back." He kissed her cheek.
He picked her up and dropped her to sit on her desk.
"Hm, I would’ve insisted on it but it’s too late to start preparing now." She said and sighed. "Well then, a small gathering it’ll be. Allow me to arrange it." She smiled. "I’m very much idle or should I say, jobless. So I can use my spare time to arrange the little gathering of your loved ones to celebrate your birthday."
"I’d like that." He said and kissed her lips.
’And with everyone there, I’ll be able to break the news to everyone.’ she thought. ’It’s perfect.’
Just then, Stacy knocked on the door.
"Boss? Mrs Valerie? T-there is... there’s a package." She said, stuttering a bit. "Y-you have a package." She said, and Max helped Valerie down from the desk.
What was wrong with her voice? Was she still feeling guilty that her voice would shake in fear?
But what package? Was it so important that she had to disturb them?
Where was Mariam?
She started buttoning up her shirt with the midnight of going to open the door but Max stopped her.
"Hold on." Max said. "I’ll go."
She watched him walk towards the door and decided to sit down for a while.
Max opened the door and looked at Stacy, who was holding onto a box and shivering in fear.
He looked at the floor and then back at the box and asked,
"What’s this?" His eyebrows furrowed in disdain.
"T-that... A delivery man came up with this box and said it was an urgent delivery for the boss." She explained and gulped. "He left right away without even waiting for a signature. A-and, since he said it was urgent, I decided to bring it over. B-but...as soon as I... As soon as I got to the door..." She lifted it a bit. "Blood started leaking from it."
The box was indeed leaking blood but they couldn’t be sure if it was actually blood.
"Did you see the person’s face?" He asked but she shook her head.
"N-no." She said. "He was wearing a nose mask and... And a face cap."
Max looked at the red liquid. It did look like blood but they couldn’t be sure.
For all he knew, it could be red syrup from a silly prank.
He glanced behind his shoulder at Valerie.
He couldn’t trust it so he decided to open it.
"Open it." He said, and Stacy looked up at him, shocked.
"M-me?" She asked and his eyes turned dark. He wasn’t going to repeat himself. "O-okay."
"What’s going on here?" Mariam asked, approaching them and she saw the red liquid on the floor. Her eyes widened. "What the hell is that?"
Max placed his index finger over his lips, indicating she had to keep her mouth shut because of Valerie who was inside.
"Max, what’s going on?" Valerie asked from inside and Max turned to smile at her.
"It’s nothing. I’ll be with you shortly." He said and decided to close the door.
He was scared that once Valerie saw it, she would be reminded of her terrible past. She just managed to recover, he couldn’t let a prank trigger it.
"Is this really blood?" Mariam asked with a look of disdain.
"How long has it been since you got this?" Max asked.
"A-about ten minutes." Stacy answered and Max turned to Mariam.
"Mariam, call Jeremy. He’s in the parking lot right now." He said. "Tell him to keep an eye on all delivery men going out of the building." He instructed and she nodded
She walked towards the side to give Jeremy a call.
He turned to the guards who were standing around and beacon them over.
"Search everywhere. You were here when he came with the delivery, right? You’ll be able to recognize him." He said and they nodded. "Good. You three," he pointed at them. "Take the other men and start searching the whole place and you," he pointed at a single guy. "Go up to the control center and check all footage of the insides and surroundings of Ross. Don’t you dare lose him."
"Does the measure need to be this strict?" Mariam asked, coming back from her call with Jeremy. "It could just be a simple prank."
"Mariam, we don’t know that yet." He said. "And a prank or not, this sight can easily trigger Valerie’s bad memories and give her nightmares. I can’t let such a person go Scott free." He said.
Mariam understood and nodded her head.
"Well then, let’s open it." She said, going forward to open the box that was still in Stacy’s hand.
Stacy was trembling. It used she was also scared of the sight of blood.
"Let’s hope it’s a prank."
But it wasn’t.
Inside the box was the head of an unidentified person and Stacy screamed. The box fell from her hand and landed on the floor.
It was gruesome.
"Shh, it’s okay." Mariam said, holding her, but she wouldn’t stop shaking.
"It’s... It’s ahead. A real head." She said.
Max bent down to pick up the nearly soaked letter stuck to the head.
"Who in the world would do such a thing?" Mariam asked, feeling disgusted that she might throw up any moment.
"It’s a monster. It’s definitely a monster." Stacy said, shivering in Mariam’s arms. "How could they be so cruel and send such a thing to the boss?"
"Yeah, it’s definitely a monster." Max said through gritted teeth as he read the letter.
Veins crawled up his neck as his face contorted in anger.
"Is this supposed to be a joke?"
"What did it say, Brother?" Mariam asked and took the letter from him.
’My dear niece, I heard of your near-death experience. I told you, didn’t I? The world is a very dangerous place. Come back to Romaine and you won’t ever have to feel fear.’
Her hand trembled in anger as she read the letter. What the hell was that?
This could only be sent by one person.
’Also, I caught the one who dared to pay a finger on my dear niece, but there are still others, so come back home, alright? This uncle of yours will dote on you like no one else.’
She squeezed the letter and equally gritted her teeth. It was crazy. Did he call this an act of goodwill? How was bringing the head of a dead person to her an act of goodwill?
Max’s phone rang, and he picked it up. It was one of the guards.
"Boss, we found him. But he’s on the run."
"Make sure to catch him. If he slips out of your grasp, you’re dead." He said with a bone-chilling gaze, as though he was talking to them in front of him. "Also, make sure there’s no bomb on him or a suicide drug in his molars."
"Yes, boss."
"What’s taking you so long?" Valerie suddenly came out of the office, and their eyes widened. "You..." Her eyebrows furrowed as she caught the stench of a familiar oddness, and her eyes instinctively followed it to the floor, but Max blocked her sight, placing his palm on her eyes and said.
"Don’t look at it." He hugged her, burying her head in his chest. "It’s filthy."
"What is it?"
"The doings of a monster." He answered.
