Chapter 149: Both heirs of Stewart seem to hold great interest in Ross Corp

"Max?"

She was surprised. What was he doing there?

Steven saw him and blinked, surprised. What was he doing there? He wasn’t supposed to be there.

"Now, I understand what you meant by an unexpected change in your schedule." Max said, directing his words to Steven. "But unfortunately, I’m going to thwart your plans."

He walked towards Valerie and whispered in her ear.

"Hey, wifey, remember you promised to send me 5 percent shares? How about making it 15 so we can squash this big in one go?" He said and she remembered their contract.

However, that was already invalid.

Well, there was no time to be thinking of validity and invalidity. This was a matter of the company’s future.

"But, do you already have shares in Ross?" She asked and he smiled. He pointed at the file in front of her. The person using a fake alias right below her.

"I planned it for the long run, but it seems it’ll come in handy today." He said and stood straight, putting his hands in his pockets.

Valerie looked at him. Here he was, coming to save her again. She felt her world would definitely flip upside down if he didn’t exist.

"I’m going to sell my shares." She suddenly announced. "To Maximum Stewart, who already has 30 percent shares." She said and turned to him. "I’m giving it, rather. I realized I had yet to give my husband a birthday present and this is it."

Max’s eyes widened and he looked down at her. She smiled.

Bet he forgot his birthday was coming up.

"I’m giving 15 percent of my shares to him. So he’ll have 45 percent and the fate of this company shall rest on his hand. Any objections?"

Steven’s eyes twitched. How could Valerie do such a thing at the last minute? This was cheating, wasn’t it?

"So, with this," Max stood behind Valerie, placing his hand on her shoulders and glaring at Steven. "I own most shares. So, I call the shots. Any questions?"

Steven flinched and averted his eyes, his face flushing in embarrassment and another emotion combined. He didn’t look mad after making eye contact with Max’s fierce gaze.

"I... I lost." He said and got up. He stared at the couple, as well as the members of the board, and sighed. ’What a humiliating defeat.’

He left with his secretary and that gave room for the board members to start murmuring among themselves.

"Both heirs of Stewart seem to hold great interest in Ross Corp. I don’t believe it’s simply because it’s the second leading company."

"I know, right? It’s like there’s a hidden gem that they all want to acquire."

"To be honest, I was tempted to sell my shares but after seeing what just happened, I believe a great change is coming. We won’t regret holding shares."

"Robert must’ve been a fool."

"Well, we can all be considered fools, because we initially had the mind of selling our shares. We just had a bit of luck with our patience."

"Hm."

’These oldies,’ Marima thought. ’Do they think we don’t have ears or something? We can hear them loud and clear.’ she looked down at Max and Valerie who simply listened to their words and did not bat an eye.

She decided to take it into her own hands and cleared her throat.

"Ahem! The meeting is not over yet." She said and the board composed themselves.

"Thank you, Mariam." Valerie said and then turned to Max. "Please, take a seat. We can’t let our biggest shareholder stand."

"Then, can I take the seat under you?" He shamelessly asked and she knew right away what he was getting at, but she couldn’t let him ruin her perfect composure.

So, she cleared her throat and said,

"Mr Stewart, please take a seat. We can talk once the meeting is over."

As if expecting that response, Max shrugged it off with a smirk and took the seat that was owned by one of the board members.

He happily stood up and went to sit on the chair Steven had left.

"Now, shall we continue?"

Ross Corp was far more stable than it used to be for the past month. Yes, there was a major crisis that shook the foundation and staked the future development. But the bad egg had been cut off, and the filthy skin shed.

It was a new dawn for Ross and one that needed support from all sides.

"I will not tolerate any form of betrayal." Valerie stated. "If you wish to stick with Ross to the end, please do so wholeheartedly. And if you wish to hove up in the middle, do that peacefully and do not get tempted by outside forces to rain cunning mischief in my company. If you have my back, Ross will have your back."

The board clapped, moved by her speech and her words of concern.

They had been in Ross for a long time as well. So they understood what it meant to stake it all for the company.

But in the end, business was business. If it didn’t work out, they would leave.

But after hearing her speech, they were moved to give it their all. At least, no cunningness would be involved.

’Luckily, while I was still working. I was able to discard the bad eggs and leave the good ones.’ Valerie thought. ’Though fear may make you run, you should not throw your knife at your helper just because of it.’

"Then, is the meeting over?" Max asked but Valerie shook her head. There was one more thing she hadn’t spoken about.

"As you all know, I have been absent from the company. Not because I lack the capabilities to run it but because..." She raised her head and smiled, giving the most unexplainable and unpredictable response. "...I wasn’t in the mood."

The board was shocked to hear her speak so nonchalantly about the company. Not in the mood? Was that a joke? 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

But they were far more shocked to actually see her smile.

She looked beautiful and her eyes glimmered. Anyone could tell that she held thoughts of her beloved one when looking into those eyes.

But of course, they couldn’t stare for long because her husband was right there, giving them death glares and possibly threatening to ruin their lives if they looked at his wife one more second.

It made them fear for their lives, so who wouldn’t look away?

"In any case, I won’t be running the company on my own and I’ll leave the charge to Mariam Stewart, who has been doing an excellent job this far." She said and got up. "So, treat her right and do not make problems for her." She said and looked at Mariam, who had this touched look on her face.

"Oh my, sis... I mean, Mrs Valerie, I feel so honored." She said, and Valerie looked at her, wondering where that attitude was coming from.

Mariam turned to the board members, putting on her serious face with no hitches, and proclaimed,

"I may be young and lacking in several aspects but with this responsibility put on my shoulder, I will serve Ross with every sweat in my body and make the chairman proud. So, I ask that you cooperate with me in moving this company forward. Thank you."

Once again, they clapped.

"It’s just a temporary measure since Mariam will leave for school in a year so we will not disclose this to the press." Valerie said and they nodded, understandably. "Please allow her the privacy a young lady like her deserves. No complication."

They looked understanding and agreed with Valerie’s terms.

"With this, the meeting is adjourned."

The members of the board went over to congratulate Mariam on her short term position. They were all praises.

"Stewart is so talented. A young girl like you has managed the company so well in the last few weeks. I look forward to working with you." One of the board members congratulated her and they shook hands.

"Thank you. I look forward to working with you as well." She said, keeping her professional face up with a slight, to respect her elders.

They were all older than her a great deal. Though, some were as old as her father.

"We’ll be in your care, Mrs Stewart." Another member said, stretching his hand out for a handshake and she did the same, slightly bowing her head as she responded.

"Ah, yes. I will also be in your care."

"Mariam, I need to talk to Max in the office." Valerie said and Mariam gave this knowing look and a thumbs up.

"Oh, sure. Good luck but don’t mess up the office too much." Sje aid and snickered. "I still need to work."

"I..." Valerie’s face flushed. "I don’t know what you’re talking about."

"Oh, sure. Take your time." She waved them away and Valerie grabbed Max’s hand.

"We... We’ll get going."

Max waved at Mariam with a wide grin, and surely, that grin meant something. It was like he was saying, ’Good job being smart.’

’How wouldn’t I know when they do that stuff all the time.’ Mariam thought and shook her head.
