Chasing The Vengeful Villainous Heiress-Chapter 143: Eliana, the girl who resembled Lucy
Gramps lowered his head, lost in thoughts.
Things were far more serious than he thought they would be.
He stayed back when they were going away from vacation after pretending to board the plane with them, just so he could fish out those guys that were sowing seeds in his family and company.
Luckily, they were able to fish out those seeds before they germinated.
With the thought that the head of the family and chairman were out of the country, they got careless, and their actions were traceable.
But they were never able to find out who the original ’farmer’ was and were left with dead scarecrows who couldn’t speak of their owner.
They couldn’t tell if it was an insider with growing contempt or an outsider who wanted to ruin them from the inside. They were very careful in that regard.
"For now, get some rest, dear." Grampa Leo said. "You’ve had a rough day." He turned to Max. "You too, son."
"Yes, gramps, but first, I have something to speak with you about." He said and seeing the seriousness on Max’s face, he sighed and said,
"Alright." He turned to Oscar. "Escort Valerie to Max’s room."
"Yes, sir."
Valerie got up and glanced at the two.
"I’ll be there with you shortly," Max said and she nodded.
They both walked out the door and Max turned to his grandfather with a serious frown.
"Where’s Steven?"
Outside, while Valerie walked with Oscar to Max’s room, she, who was lost in thoughts, felt a familiar, yet dangerous feeling from the lady who walked past her.
She stopped and turned to look at her with widened and shocked eyes.
"No, it couldn’t be." She muttered. There was no way.
The girl walking on had black hair but her walking step was oddly similar to Lucy’s.
It was impossible but...
"Excuse me." She called out and the lady stopped.
Valerie gulped, anticipating the face she would see once she turned around, and to her relief, it was a different face.
Yet, her eyes were strongly similar to Lucy’s.
Valerie’s hands slightly shook. This lady had so many resemblances to Lucy. Aside from her black hair color, and an unrecognizable face, the rest was just so similar and not to talk of the way she smiled.
"You... Who are you?" She asked, but the lady stared at her as if unwilling to open her mouth and speak.
Then, she took a step closer in an attempt to approach Valerie but then, Steven walked up to them.
"Ah, if it isn’t Miss Ross." He said. "Oh, my bad. It’s no longer Miss Ross, is it? It’s Mrs Stewart."
His tone had a bit of mockery in it but Valerie ignored him and instead focused her attention on the lady standing next to him. He noticed this and decided to do the introductions.
"I see you’ve met my ’fiance’." He said, and Valerie looked up at him.
"What?"
"Yes, my Fiance." He repeated, taking the lady’s hands in his. "Allow me to introduce you. This is Eliana, my fiance."
"Eliana?" Valerie asked, her body growing tense.
"Yes. And pardon her if she didn’t respond to your question, she’s mute, you see."
"Mute." Valerie could feel her pulse racing.
This was all a coincidence, right? This same man, who could be after Maximus’ life, was with a girl who had so many resemblances to her dead enemy, Lucy. It had to be a coincidence. It just had to. No, she prayed it was so.
"Ah, pardon me then." Valerie said, and Eliana nodded, still smiling. "Then, I’ll be on my way."
They turned and started leaving.
As soon as they were out of sight, Steven turned sharply at Eliana and glared at her.
"I told you to stay out of sight." He squeezed her hand and she winched in pain. "You might’ve changed your face but there are still so many things that could make you recognizable, especially to one who was once your sworn enemy." He let go of her hand and she rubbed the bruise.
She stared at him with eyes filled with disinterest and it looked like she wouldn’t behave or carry out his orders, so he grabbed her by the chin, pinned her to the wall, and threatened,
"Do you know that once your cover is blown, you’ll immediately get executed? It’s back to the execution chair." He said but she snickered. "You think this is funny?"
"No," she said, confirming that she was never mute to begin with. "It’s just that you’re so cautious that I wonder how you could bring yourself to work with me."
"I don’t trust you." Steven said. "But I need you in my plan so you’ll have to do for now."
"Well, as long as I get to torment that bitch, I’ll do anything." She said but he tightened his grip on her chin and said,
"Stay in your place, ’Eliana’." He glared at her. "You’re only allowed to act the way I want, get that?"
"Sure. I already gave my word, so don’t fret." She said and grinned. "As long as I can get my revenge, I will be your puppet."
Steven let go of her and clicked his tongue. He wasn’t one to easily lose his cool in front of others but ’Eliana’ was proving to be stubborn. If it were up to him, he would put a collar around her neck but then, their relationship would become too suspicious.
Now, she has exposed herself to the enemy, there was no way to avoid an investigation. He needed to make sure there was no loophole in the identity he created for her.
Eliana watched him leave and grinned.
"But I won’t exactly stay still while knowing that bitch is in this mansion." She muttered to herself and looked towards the direction Valerie had disappeared into. "Valerie, I will make sure to settle old scores with you. Watch as I make your life miserable." She grinned.
That night, while Valerie and Max were sleeping, Valerie suddenly felt a person standing right in front of her, and when she opened her eyes, she saw a bloody face, Lucy smiling down at her with a bloody knife in her hand.
She screamed and put on the light right away but there was no one there.
"What’s wrong?" Max asked, waking up from her scream and she frantically searched the room with her eyes.
"It’s... Just a nightmare." She said. "I thought I saw Lucy."
"Today must’ve caused you to worry too much." Max said and held her close. "Try to get some sleep, okay? I’m right here so no one will hurt you."
Valerie gulped down the saliva in her dry throat. She was sweating profusely.
’Yeah, it was just a nightmare.’ she thought, sinking only Max’s arms. ’But... It felt like she was really standing there.’
She decided to just go to sleep. It was probably because she saw someone who looked like Lucy that she was having such nightmares.
Unknown to them, there was indeed someone in the room and once they were fast asleep, she walked out slowly and stared at them on their bed.
They let their guard down too much.
She looked at the knife in her hand.
She could do it now. She could just stab Valerie and get her revenge but it was too soon.
’Soon. Very soon. You two will lose it all.’
