Chapter 43: A Little Lunch - III

"Yes," she nodded her head, "it’s clear." Nothing could be more clear to Evelyn that the Don was not compromising on anything. Even if he was sitting with her having lunch he still expected her to behave.

Salvatore her curt nod, "Go ahead then."

Evelyn nodded, feeling shy under his eyes but answered him knowing the consequences well. "I have a boyfriend at that time and we did not end well which is why. . . I went home to my father and I quit my job."

Salvatore’s eyes sharpened more as he clenched his jaw. That happened? He did not try to pry in further when he got to know that she had left the job. At that moment he had left her to do whatever she wanted and since she had walked away from his life, he accepted it.

It was no brainer to understand that she was giving him the watered down version of what happened.

"Elaborate Evelyn," he said without an ounce of anger being betrayed in his voice or face, "tell me exactly what happened."

She could feel her jaw clench. It was not a very proud moment of what went down and how she took care of it. The only silver lining of it all was her father not saying ’I told you so’.

"He tried to sell me. Well, to be honest he did tell me but my father’s associates and one of my friends found me there and recognised me and he also informed my father about it." She looked away from his face and outside the glass wall. She could feel her eyes burning up and the tears were ready to form. She could not write about it. She could not write about it when she had not done so for so long. It was her mistake to trust someone like that.

He nodded. "And you punish him?"

Her head whipped to him. "What?" She spat.

He nodded. "Did you punish your boyfriend for trying to sell? In fact, for selling you. You have the right to punish him and you have the power to do that."

Evelyn did not miss a beat in correcting him, "I had—"

"No you did not ’had’ it," he emphasized, " if you ask my father about it he will present you the man allies and ready to be torture by you."

That completely took her by surprise, enough for her to stop showing what was in her mouth. It was good that it hurts that her father had not offered her dead person alive to torture but that was not what she wanted.

She told him that. "I’m not someone who likes to torture people. Maybe that is why I am not named as the heir to the organisation,my father knew that." She continued after a second or two of waiting. "I am not a person that can take revenge or who is capable of killing and believe me when I say that my father has tried." She chuckled at the better memory.

She then looked at Salvatore and shrugged simply. "I am not someone who can take revenge and I am not someone who can kill. I can do that to defend myself so that I will probably end up hurting or knocking the person out."

He shook his head slowly. "That is not how you will stay alive in this world." Evan Bella Rosa was like that but when she was named as the Mafia princess of the alessandro organization, his father made sure that she knew how to kill torture and fend after herself.

That was a story where nothing was right in their family. His mother stood up every single day in opposition to having Bella Rosa do that but at the end of the day his father won and even Bella Rosa told Alexis how important it had been in life.

Still Alexis never agreed on it but now it was a matter of the past.

Evelyn chuckled. "I think that’s the reason why my father had a deal with you." She smiled as she looked out and said, "He knew I won’t be able to survive in this world without him and family members are not. . Loving Exactly. So, he gave me the chance to be protected and. ." She sighed.

"And?" He prompted.

She gulped. "He gave me a way out." She whispered to him with tears building up.

Everyone knew of what her father had done but no one talked about it. Carlo Bianchi had given his daughter the unthinkable way of breaking away from the Mafia and starting a new family. She could do all of that while being in the protection of the Alessandro organization.

He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a cigar box. Lightening it in this establishment, he breathed in the smoke before existing it out with the long sigh.

In this little conversation so much happened. Evelyn was not a person that would ever take revenge. Some people would say the same for his mother but Alexis could hold a grudge and his mother good kill someone for her defence. Even his sister could do that but not Evelyn.

What is shame. She wanted a life out of this and her father gave her the perfect chance to do so. He on the other hand was born and raised to live and die in this one.

Everything wanted something completely different than him and Salvatore felt compelled to give her that. She deserved living a normal life with a mundane everyday routine and trying to save to have the vacations that he could give her anytime of the day.

He huffed slighty and watched her eat. She was purposely avoiding looking at him. Evelyn concentrated on eating her pasta and did not give him any glance even though she was aware of him looking at her.

No problem to him because he loved smoking his cigar and looking at her.

Evelyn. . . .his Evelyn?

He shook his head. No one knew that. Now one fucking knew that.
