"You guessed it! I want to become a big star," Jane Sampson entered the office ahead of Nina Rice, plopped down into Nina’s chair, and crossed her legs with an air of determination. She tapped her index finger a few times on the solid wood desk, "I mean the kind of star that everybody knows and recognizes."

Nina gasped and rushed to Jane’s side, feeling her forehead, "You’re not delirious, are you?"

"No joke, and my head’s fine," Jane said, swatting Nina’s hand away irritably. "Do you really think so little of me, as if I couldn’t make it as a big star?"

Nina touched her nose and shook her head, "Continue playing the piano? With your qualifications, becoming famous would be really easy. Just enter a few more international competitions, show your face at some large evening parties, get some media exposure, and you’ll be famous. You were a renowned prodigy when you were a youth; it’s just that you’ve been hiding away in your own circle for the past two years. Piano Prodigy Girl, that’s been your label since you were little."

These words from Nina weren’t just flattery to please her friend. Jane Sampson was beautiful, had a great body, impressive education, and, most importantly, genuine talent. She won so many piano competitions throughout her life that even she might not remember how many trophies she had.

Ever since they were young, Nina had admired Jane Sampson immensely. Jane’s room was large, and one whole row of cabinets was filled with her trophies and certificates.

Nowadays, even athletes who are just a bit good-looking can become stars. Considering Jane’s assets, Nina thought it should be fairly easy for her.

Jane shook her head, her tone serious and determined, "I’ve thought it through. I want to take the path of an actor. The road for a pianist is too narrow and too difficult. Only those who follow piano know me, but what I want is to be as universally known as those actors."

Nina was shocked once again. Looking at Jane, she felt as if she had to get to know her all over again; it was as if the past decade had been a complete misunderstanding.

"I never realized you were so ambitious. What, you want to be the new Movie Queen?" Nina said, massaging Jane’s face, "Look at how pretty you are. It shouldn’t be too hard; you’re so beautiful, you’d make a lovely vase." 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

"Movie Queen? Will becoming a Movie Queen make everyone know and see me? If that’s the case, then I’ll work hard for that title!" Jane replied earnestly, without a trace of jest in her tone.

Her attitude finally made the mocking smile on Nina’s face fade. She sized up Jane anew and then in a tone even more serious than Jane had used, she asked, "Does Brother James Black know? Does the Sampton Family know?"

Never mind James Black, Nina thought that the Sampton Family would be the first to disapprove.

"James told me last night to do what I want to do, so take that as his approval," said Jane with a sly smile. But when she thought of the Sampton Family, she heaved a deep sigh, "Even if the Sampton Family doesn’t agree, I’ll still become an actor. No one can stop me."

Nina really wanted to commend Jane for her bravery, but remembering the Sampton Family’s matters, Nina felt Jane’s pursuit of her own dreams might not be such a bad thing after all.

If you talk about making public appearances, isn’t Julie Sampton a TV host? She’s also in the spotlight, so that doesn’t seem much different, does it?

Julie’s spot as a host was secured by the Sampton Family, who used their connections and spent money. Otherwise, Julie would just be another invisible kid struggling in the logistics department.
