CEO's Contract Obsession-Chapter 347: Being Abducted
Days and weeks went by, and Henry did not see Vanessa. He received word from the nurse that she had delivered a baby and was unable to leave the child’s side. Strangely, the baby’s registration bore Dimitri’s name, yet it was actually Francis’ son.
That is one messed up family tree but he doesn’t care. He knows that Francis must have been brewing something sinister against his dad.
"Mr. Welsh, we’re going to take off your handcuffs. Mrs. Turner has given us strict instructions, but it depends on your commitment to behaving and refraining from any escape attempts. You’ll continue to be under constant surveillance with four guards present at all times, leaving no room for any escape." The nurse informed Henry.
"I beg you, for your own safety and to ease the burden on me and the guards, please remain in this room. You’ve been granted opportunities for freedom before, but each time, it has caused problems for both the nurses and security personnel." The nurse pleaded as Henry had previously placed them in difficult situations by attempting to escape.
Henry complied with the nurse’s request, nodding and behaving exactly as instructed. He spent his time patiently in the basement room, focusing on maintaining his physical fitness and meticulously devising his escape strategy.
In order to execute his plan, he knows that he needs to maintain his facade and endure a lot of hardships. However, his personal suffering held little importance to him as long as the end result would make him get out of that living hell.
Months passed before Vanessa paid him another visit. Initially, he acts aloof and distant to make it look like it’s real, but he eventually manages to rebuild Vanessa’s trust in him.
"When can I meet your baby?" Henry inquired abruptly, catching Vanessa off guard.
"He’s not permitted to be here," she responded tersely, as she peeled a pomelo for Henry.
"I suppose it might not be wise either; he might cry, thinking I’m a monster," Henry added with a downcast expression, feigning sadness.
"You are not a monster, Henry. We can fix that. As soon as Dimitri dies, we can leave this place. Francis will let me go as long as I will not take our son." Vanessa explained.
Henry furrowed his brow and probed for more details. "If you’re waiting for Dimitri to die naturally, it could take a very long time. He’s a resilient man."
Vanessa stopped peeling the fruit and let out a sigh. "He’s already in the process of dying. I had to resort to poisoning him as a trade-off for your safety. Francis wouldn’t guarantee your survival unless I agreed to slowly poison his father, making it appear like a natural death."
Henry gently pulled Vanessa, who was seated in front of him, into a hug. "I’m deeply grateful for you saving my life. I might have died in that fire if it weren’t for you. I can only imagine the hardships you’ve endured while I was unconscious."
Vanessa held him in a tighter embrace and spoke softly, "Oh, Henry, I’d go through it all again if it meant we could be together in the end. I’m willing to endure any suffering."
Henry clenched his jaw, feeling a strong distaste for Vanessa, yet he held her closer before gently releasing her from his arms. "What can I do to help you? Would you like me to take care of Dimitri so we can leave this place? Just tell me what to do, and I will do it. Let me make it up to you, to show my love for you, and prove that I’ve truly changed. I will put an end to all your troubles right now."
Vanessa stared at him, her voice betraying doubt and uncertainty as she asked, "Would you really do that?" Her eyes began to well up with emotion.
"Yes, Vanessa, we’re not getting any younger, and I have wasted too much time when I should have been with you all these years," Henry spoke, hiding his simmering anger toward the woman before him.
He gently brushed his thumbs across both of her cheeks and continued, "Remember back in college, when we used to hike that mountain in Brookegrove? Let’s stay in your house there. Let’s live far away from everyone else and simply enjoy each other’s company."
Vanessa’s tears began to flow with overwhelming happiness. "Okay, let’s do that. But you don’t need to get your hands dirty with Dimitri. I’ll handle him myself."
She wiped away her tears and left immediately, leaving Henry with a self-satisfied smirk. He understood that some might brand him as evil, but being abducted and forced to do things against his will had molded him into this person.
For him, deceiving Vanessa is his only way out. He wanted to see his family again, even if it meant observing them from a distance. He would gladly bear all the scars on his face to conceal his true identity if it meant being with them without them recognizing him.
After just a few days, Vanessa and Francis were true to their words. Vanessa had dealt with Dimitri and Francis let her go. But only after singing papers renouncing her rights to their child and San Francisco Petroleum Corp. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
She transferred all her rights to the company to her son whom she doesn’t even treat as one. All she cared about was to be with Henry.
They went to Brookegrove by boarding in one of San Francisco Petroleum Corp’s company tankers to hide Henry’s existence. Vanessa trusted him so much that she no longer put heavy security around him.
"Ms. Lane! Ms. Lane!" Called the crew of the ship as he banged the door.
Vanessa jolted from the bed and when she didn’t see Henry beside her, she quickly opened the door.
"The man who’s with you is gone! Everyone is looking for him now," said the crew.
"Oh my God! How did that happen?" Vanessa asked in a panic.
"He was drinking with some of our men and was completely drunk. They dared to pee into the sea but ended up falling from the railing."
"WHAT?!" Vanessa felt dizzy, as if all her blood was drained from her body, and soon fainted.
The crew searched for days but never found Henry again.
