Chapter 277: Small Catch

Amy, Ava, and Mitch followed Theo inside his office while Dave and the rest of Amy’s security detail stood outside while waiting for them. Theo’s office has changed a lot from the last time that Amy visited it.

"Goodness, you’ve certainly had your hands full. This place is an absolute mess!" Amy remarked upon witnessing the countless stacks of documents in all corners of the room.

"Well, it’s all thanks to your husband. Sometimes I wonder if he has a grudge against me, purposely making my job more challenging. During his previous visit, he declared that once the site construction is completed, he would give top priority to accepting job applications from the workers here.

He also mentioned that the position would become permanent after successfully completing a six-month probationary period. You see, many workers here are currently on contractual terms, so this news got them quite excited. Obtaining a permanent job with accompanying benefits would undoubtedly improve their lives. That’s precisely what all these papers pertain to—the workers have already submitted their application letters along with their resumes."

Theo complained in frustration, exclaiming, "There isn’t even an administration department set up yet! You have to tell your husband to remove all these papers from my office!" His words brought forth laughter from the ladies.

"I’ll definitely let him know," Amy replied with a giggle.

Theo then showed Amy the progress of the construction site. There has been a big improvement since the last time she saw the place and it is much better now. She can already picture what it will look like in the future.

"According to my plan, two out of the four oil wells should be nearly completed in around two months, assuming everything goes smoothly," Theo informed Amy. Then, he inquired out of curiosity, "By the way, what’s your plan regarding the raw materials? Are you considering processing them or selling them as they are?"

"We won’t be processing it; that would require additional investments," Amy responded. "Considering the limited oil reserve in this land, I don’t believe it’s a wise decision. Selling it in its raw form would be more sensible. Once all the natural resources have been extracted, I’m planning to redevelop the area. Perhaps transforming it into a modern farm or converting it into a commercial zone would be suitable options."

"That’s quite clever of you," Theo jested. "Regardless of the path we choose, you’ll still hand me the contract for the redevelopment project, won’t you?"

Amy chuckled and playfully shook her head. "No matter where the conversation goes, you always find a way to steer it back to business as usual," she remarked.

"Of course! I have big plans for my future family, and I want to provide them with the best life possible," Theo declared. "So, is it a deal then?"

Amy let out a mischievous chuckle and responded, "Oh, without a doubt! However, there’s a small catch, Theo. In order to secure that contract, you’ll have to promise me an exclusive inside scoop on the progress between you and Maya."

Theo’s eyes widened, caught off guard by Amy’s unexpected request. He scratched his head and chuckled nervously. "Amy, you drive a hard bargain! I see you’re not just after gourmet coffee but some juicy gossip as well!"

Amy grinned mischievously. "Oh, come on, Theo! A little inside scoop won’t hurt anyone. Consider it a bonus incentive for signing the contract."

Theo pretended to ponder the proposal, rubbing his chin with a mock serious expression. "Alright, alright! Deal, but only if you promise to keep it between us. We wouldn’t want the tabloids getting wind of our secret negotiations, would we?"

Amy playfully crossed her heart. "You have my word, Theo. Your secrets are safe with me. Let the business and gossip exchange begin!"

As the playful banter between Amy and Theo continued, lunchtime rolled around, and Theo decided to treat Amy, Ava, and their team to a delicious meal. He placed a generous order for food, ensuring that everyone would be well-fed as they worked through the afternoon.

Amy couldn’t help but acknowledge Theo’s role as an excellent teacher. Throughout their interactions, he had generously shared his knowledge about the workings of the site and imparted valuable insights that would prove crucial when their business operations starts.

She admired how Theo patiently explained the intricacies of the site’s operations, guiding her through the complexities with clarity and expertise. His willingness to share his wisdom and teach her the ropes demonstrated not only his confidence in her capabilities but also his genuine desire for their joint venture to succeed.

Initially, when Amy discovered that her land held valuable oil deposits and other precious resources, she felt overwhelmed by the magnitude of the work. The extraction process alone seemed daunting, requiring substantial investment and extensive work. The financial implications weighed heavily on her mind.

However, as Theo patiently explained the details of each structure within the field, she began to grasp the comprehensive planning and careful preparation that had gone into setting up the site.

Amy realized that once the construction was complete and the infrastructure fully operational, the actual running of the business would not be as daunting as she had initially imagined.

Understanding the complexities of the structures and processes in place provided Amy with a newfound confidence. She recognized that while managing the business would undoubtedly require effort and dedication, the foundation had been laid, greatly simplifying the path ahead.

Toward the end of their learning session, Amy sensed her energy fading as she started feeling under the weather. Spending the entire day outdoors had taken its toll, prompting her to make the decision to end their visit slightly earlier than planned.

"Where should we head, Boss?" Dave inquired once Amy had settled into the car.

"Let’s head home, Dave. I’m feeling nauseous and incredibly tired. I need some rest and an early night’s sleep," Amy replied.

"Nauseous? Like feeling dizzy and the urge to vomit?" Mitch sought confirmation.

"Yes, precisely that. I’m feeling extremely exhausted as well. Can we please get moving? I just want to lie down on my bed. My hips are killing me," Amy expressed, leaning her back against the car seat.

Dave, Ava, and Mitch exchanged knowing glances, fully aware of the information shared by Amy’s doctor regarding the potential signs of her pregnancy. They had been specifically instructed by Henry to inform him immediately if they observed any symptoms, no matter how small.

At that moment, they knew it was time to take action and notify Henry without delay. As the car set in motion, they silently resolved to handle the situation with utmost care and support, ready to keep a watchful eye on Amy’s health throughout the journey ahead.
