Chapter 43: Chapter 43: Will You Be My Wife?

"Let’s go take a look inside," Kenneth Yates said, taking Summer Lancaster’s hand and leading her into the flower field. Summer’s beige dress billowed in the gentle breeze, perfectly complementing the atmosphere.

"Kenneth Yates, I never knew you were so romantic."

"There’s still a lot you don’t know." Kenneth smiled, patting her head fondly. Summer felt as if she had everything she could ever want.

He brought her to the center of the flower field. From there, all they could see in every direction were champagne roses. They were immersed in the milky-white Floria, with eyes only for each other.

"Summer Lancaster, I love you." Summer’s face lit up as she gazed into Kenneth’s eyes. She threw her arms around his waist. "I love you too. So, so much."

Kenneth felt something wet on his arm. ’Is she crying?’

Summer had been waiting over a decade to hear those words. Thankfully... they hadn’t missed their chance.

"Why are you crying?" Kenneth asked, letting go of her.

"I’m not. I’m not crying," Summer said, frantically wiping the tears from the corners of her eyes.

"Close your eyes. I’ll get them for you." Summer obediently closed her eyes, and Kenneth gently wiped her tears away.

"All right." When Summer opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was a ring. She glanced at Kenneth, who just smiled and dropped to one knee. Startled, Summer took a small step back.

"Summer Lancaster, will you be my wife?" Tears streamed down Summer’s face. "You silly goose, I’m already your wife."

"I didn’t get to propose last time, so I’m making up for it now." Summer laughed through her tears. "I do." Kenneth took Summer’s right hand, gently slid the ring onto her ring finger, and then swept her up into his arms.

Some say marriage is the graveyard of love, but for them, love began with marriage.

Summer felt like the happiest person in the entire world. ’If this is a dream,’ she thought, ’I hope I never wake up.’

That evening, they stayed in a small wooden cabin. It was fully furnished. After they both showered, they lay in bed, talking.

Summer could tell the ring was special. She worked in the jewelry business, after all, yet she’d never seen a design like this before.

"Kenneth, what brand is this ring? I’ve never seen it before."

"I designed it myself."

"What?" Summer shot up in bed. "When did you design it?"

"I started designing it the day you forced a kiss on me." Summer flushed. ’He seems to remember these things with perfect clarity,’ she thought.

"This ring is one of a kind in the entire world. It belongs only to you."

"Don’t you have one? Here, let me put it on for you." Kenneth took another ring from his pocket. He hadn’t planned on wearing it, but if Summer wanted him to, then he would.

"I have to go to Euras tomorrow." As Kenneth watched Summer carefully putting the ring on his finger, he suddenly didn’t want to go to Euras anymore. ’I just want to stay with her forever.’ Hearing his words, Summer paused. "For work?"

"Yeah, for a week. I’ll call you." A flicker of disappointment crossed Summer’s face. She was afraid that when Kenneth returned, he would revert to his old, cold, and ruthless self.

Kenneth noticed her disappointment. He wrapped his arms around her waist and pressed her face into his chest. "Hey, it’s okay," he murmured. "I’m just going for a business meeting. I’ll be back before you know it. You have to eat properly, you hear?"

"Mmm," came Summer’s muffled reply.

Kenneth left the next morning before dawn. He didn’t wake Summer; instead, he called Zane Fletcher and asked him to pick her up at seven.
