CEO Ex-Husband, Don't Bother Me-Chapter 92 - 90: My Name is Anna 3
"Um, President Donovan, if there’s nothing else, I’ll head out now!"
When he didn’t respond after a moment, the young nurse quickly made her escape. She had been temporarily assigned to assist the president during his visit, and she had expected the job to be both a feast for the eyes and an absolute joy. She never imagined President Donovan would be so terrifying.
Meanwhile, Naomi Shaw and Joy had hailed a taxi and were rushing to Mercy Hospital. Unexpectedly, halfway through the trip, the driver of a private car ahead of them suddenly slammed on their brakes. This caused a massive chain-reaction pile-up as the cars behind couldn’t swerve out of the way in time. The taxi they were in was no exception.
While everyone else was cursing out the driver, she saw through the rolled-down window that the man’s head had slumped to one side. Her professional instinct as a nurse to save lives kicked in. Cradling Joy, she rushed out of the taxi. She called out to the man a few times but got no response. She reached over to check for breathing under his nose—he was still alive.
Based on her years of experience, she suspected the driver was having a heart attack. She set Joy down on the ground, first called 911, then climbed in through the passenger’s side to search the car for medication. People with heart conditions usually kept their medicine on hand.
Sure enough, she found the medicine by the handbrake. After helping the man take it, she quickly reclined both the driver’s and passenger’s seats so he could lie down flat. By the time the ambulance arrived, the driver was slowly regaining consciousness. He couldn’t speak, but he gave her a grateful look.
She simply smiled, then turned and picked up Joy to leave. However, the entire road was now blocked by the accident. She glanced at the time; it was almost ten. The thought that the president of Mercy Hospital was waiting to see Joy made her anxious, and she began to run forward, carrying Joy in her arms.
After finally making it to another main road, she was out of breath. It took her a long time to flag down another taxi. Once inside, she pulled out her phone, intending to call the hospital, only to find numerous missed calls. They were all from Mercy Hospital, except for one from an unknown mobile number. She didn’t have the mental energy to worry about who that was. She quickly called Mercy Hospital back and explained what had happened with the accident.
The young nurse sounded exasperated.
"Please just get here as soon as you can. Luckily, our president isn’t busy today, so he’s still waiting."
She thanked the nurse profusely and urged the driver to hurry. By the time she finally reached Mercy Hospital, it was already eleven o’clock.
She thanked the young nurse waiting outside and rushed into the president’s office with Joy in her arms. The moment she was inside, she began to apologize profusely.
"I’m so, so sorry. There was an accident on the way, and I..."
Her words caught in her throat when she saw the person sitting in the office.
’How could it be him? Mercy Hospital?’ She felt a surge of annoyance. ’How could I not have realized? The hospital he first invested in back in Qindale was also called Mercy.’ But how was she supposed to connect the dots? She thought he wasn’t even in this field. She had mentioned the idea of starting a hospital to him before, but he hadn’t said a word.
’It seems he arranged for me to bring Joy here today on purpose. I pretended not to know him yesterday, so he must have gotten suspicious. He made up this excuse to get me to come in today so he could confirm it, didn’t he?’
With that thought, she calmly walked over with Joy and sat down across from him. She glanced at the name tag on his chest, then offered a distant yet apologetic smile.
"President Donovan, I’m so sorry. There was an accident on the way here, that’s why I’m late."
The moment she walked in, Julian Donovan’s eyes were drawn to the enormous diamond ring on her left ring finger. It was so large and brilliant that he’d have to be blind to miss it.
He was instantly filled with rage.
"Naomi Shaw, are you here to flaunt how happy you are in my face?"
’She wasn’t wearing that ring when I saw her yesterday. Now she is. She must be doing it on purpose.’
But he was overestimating himself. She had no intention of acknowledging him, so how could she be flaunting anything?
She gave a helpless smile.
"You have quite a sense of humor. I don’t even know you. Why would I flaunt my happiness in front of you?"
She truly hadn’t known he was the one she would be meeting today. If she’d known he was the "president," she would have never come.
Her once again claiming not to know him made Julian Donovan’s eyes blaze with fury.
"Naomi Shaw, it’s been three years. You’ve certainly learned how to act!"
Her expression was one of pure innocence. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
"I’m sorry, President Donovan. You must have the wrong person. My name is... Anna Quinn!"
He stared her down, his dark eyes as sharp as a falcon’s. Seeing her expression remain unchanged, a dangerous glint entered his gaze. Finally, his face darkened.
"Fine! Your name is Anna Quinn, is it?"
The moment the words left his mouth, he surged toward her. Before she could react, he had snatched Joy from her arms. He strode to the door and yelled at the young nurse outside.
"Nurse, look after this child for a moment!"
The young nurse scurried over, took Joy, and asked in confusion,
"President Donovan, isn’t the little girl the patient?"
Julian Donovan just roared viciously at her, and the terrified nurse bolted, clutching Joy as she fled.
"What do you think you’re doing?"
She ran after them but was violently yanked back and slammed against the door. She winced in pain and glared up at him.
He pinned her between his tall frame and the door, leaned in close, and a cold smile touched his lips.
"I’ll know if you’re her with a single test."
With that, he lowered his head and, ignoring her struggles, crushed his lips against hers.
In the past, whenever he kissed her, she would nervously clutch his shirt and shyly close her eyes. He remembered her every reaction clearly, even after three years.
But...
Staring into the calm eyes that met his gaze, he felt as if a bucket of ice-cold water had been dumped over his head, instantly extinguishing all his passion and hope.
Perhaps this author’s plot is cliché. Perhaps her scenes aren’t original. Perhaps her writing is plain. But at the very least, she is writing with all her heart, so please, be a little kinder to her, won’t you?
Dejected, lost, and desolate, he let her go. Then he turned, opened the door, and walked out.
She watched his retreating back in silence, a boundless bitterness welling up inside her.
’Julian Donovan... strangers at the beginning, and strangers in the end. Isn’t that a perfect description of us now?’
’Until a love is forgotten, you can never imagine that a love once carved into your very soul could one day leave but a faint trace. Julian Donovan, let’s leave it at this. Let’s just be strangers.’
’I hope one day you’ll remember that there was a woman who loved you silently, hopelessly. The door to her heart was once open for you, and for you alone. Now, she’s closing it.’
So when Julian Donovan returned with Joy in his arms, her emotions had already settled. She took the child from him with a placid expression, as if his violent behavior just moments ago had never occurred.
Julian Donovan didn’t look at her again. He felt he no longer had the strength to. He sat down, picked up a medical chart, and began filling out the necessary information, asking without looking up,
"The child’s name and age."
"Joy Donovan. One year and ten months old."
Her voice was soft. When he heard the surname "Donovan" leave her lips, his hand froze. He snapped his head up to look at her, the tip of his pen ripping the paper beneath it. He would never admit that he had been hoping the little girl was his child.
But the child’s age plunged him into deep despair.
He raised his eyes and stared at her intently, hoping to see a flicker of emotion in her gaze, but her composure made him want to lash out.
A strange smile suddenly played on her lips.
"It’s just a coincidence. The man’s last name happens to be Donovan."
The "man" she was referring to—wasn’t it him?
Just as Julian Donovan tried to decipher the meaning behind her smile, she lowered her gaze, took her ID card out of her purse, and handed it to him.
"President Donovan, as I said, I’m really not Naomi Shaw, the person you’re looking for. Perhaps there really are two people in the world who look this much alike. Or hey, maybe I’m her father’s illegitimate daughter or something?"
She said it calmly, as if making a joke.
That alone was enough to make Julian Donovan despair.
