CEO Ex-Husband, Don't Bother Me-Chapter 78 - 76: I Will Try to Love Her (Part 2)
Mindful of her injuries, Julian only took her twice before letting her rest. But for Naomi Shaw, each session was utterly exhausting. Though he’d only made love to her twice, each time had lasted so long that she was still left completely drained.
The next day when she woke up, she didn’t even have to think to know he was no longer beside her. She knew he had a habit of going for a morning run. She got up, changed her clothes, and was about to go downstairs when she heard faint voices from below. It sounded like Tyson.
Just as she was about to go downstairs, she suddenly heard Tyson roar,
"Julian Donovan, what the hell are your intentions toward her right now!"
After a long moment, she heard Julian Donovan say faintly,
"She’s a good girl. I... I’ll try to fall in love with her..."
Naomi Shaw covered her mouth as tears streamed down her face. Last night, he’d said she was actually pretty good. ’Was this his answer to that comment? He’ll try to fall in love with me?’ 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
’Has he finally decided to take this step?’
Tyson’s voice came again.
"Then what about that celebrity you’ve got on the side?"
Julian Donovan replied calmly,
"I’ll find a chance to be honest with her!"
Tyson snorted coldly.
"Julian Donovan, you’d better promise me you mean it this time. Otherwise, you’ll have to answer to me!"
After saying his piece, Tyson turned and left. He hadn’t come here today to visit Naomi Shaw, but to confront Julian Donovan. Having heard how much Julian Donovan valued Naomi Shaw and Dylan, he had come specifically to clarify Julian’s intentions. He wouldn’t allow Julian Donovan to keep two-timing them, because Tyson knew Naomi Shaw couldn’t withstand being hurt by him time and time again. If he was truly sincere about treating Naomi and Dylan well, he had to cut ties with that actress.
After Tyson left, Julian Donovan went upstairs to shower again and change out of the sweats he’d worn for his run. Naomi Shaw had already slipped back under the covers before he came up. ’He’s such a proud man. I’d better not let him know I overheard him. How awkward would that be for him?’
’In any case, it’s enough that I know his intentions; I don’t need him to declare it formally. Besides, he only said he would *try* to fall in love with me, not that he would spend the rest of his life with me.’
So she chose to remain silent, giving him a chance, and giving herself one too. If one day he discovered he couldn’t fall in love with her no matter what, she would let him go completely.
He thought of last night’s satisfaction, and of the words he’d just said to Tyson downstairs.
"Still not getting up?"
Her eyes were bright and so clear, like a pool of limpid water where one could see straight to the bottom. Meeting a gaze like that, Julian Donovan chose to back down. He straightened up.
"Arnold’s awake!"
"Really?"
"Let’s go see him, quickly!"
No news could have possibly made her happier or more overjoyed. In her excitement, she completely forgot that she was wearing nothing at all under the blankets.
"He’s the man who practically died for you, after all. No wonder you’re so concerned about him!"
His words made Naomi Shaw feel very awkward. Following his gaze downward, she looked down and explained with some chagrin,
"My relationship with Arnold is purely platonic, like a brother and sister. He sees me as his older sister, and I see him as my little brother!"
He just snorted coldly and turned to enter the bathroom to wash off the sweat from his workout, clearly showing his disbelief in her words. Frustrated, Naomi Shaw got up and clumsily started getting dressed with one hand.
She had just finished getting dressed when Dylan’s voice sounded from outside.
Mrs. Sommers’ voice followed.
"Naomi, breakfast is ready. If you’re awake, come on down and eat!"
"Okay!"
She called back in acknowledgment. Mrs. Sommers opened the door for Dylan, and the little boy bounded over, looking bright and cheerful. She squatted down and caught him with her uninjured arm. For some reason, Naomi Shaw felt that ever since Julian Donovan had returned, Dylan’s personality had become much more lively. ’It seems a father’s love is very important for a child. Even though he isn’t that great to me, he’s undeniably good to Dylan.’
The first thing the little boy did after jumping into her arms was ask,
"Mommy, is Daddy still mad at you?"
Naomi Shaw glanced toward the bathroom and sighed.
"I don’t know..."
’He’s probably not angry about yesterday anymore, but he seemed to get upset again just now. Ugh, honestly. Arnold saved my life and my son’s; of course I’m concerned about him.’
Dylan furrowed his little brow, looking like a tiny old man.
"Didn’t you kiss him?"
"I did..."
Naomi Shaw couldn’t explain to her son what had just happened between them again.
Julian Donovan, emerging from the bathroom, was speechless when he overheard the mother and son’s conversation. ’Is my son actually teaching her how to placate me?’ He walked over, picked Dylan up, and shot her a look of displeasure.
"Do you really need our son to teach you things like this?"
"Who said he was teaching me!"
Naomi Shaw stood up as well, her face burning with embarrassment. She hadn’t expected him to overhear her conversation with their son. Although it was true that Dylan had coached her, she stubbornly denied it. ’Being taught by my own son... it’s just too embarrassing.’
Dylan Donovan, held in Julian Donovan’s arms, happily wrapped his arms around his father’s neck. Julian Donovan gave him a kiss and continued to pick on Naomi Shaw.
"Then why did you do what our son told you to last night?"
"Uh..."
Naomi Shaw was completely lost for words. He snorted coldly.
"There was no sincerity. Last night doesn’t count. We’ll do it again tonight!"
With that, Julian Donovan, in high spirits, carried Dylan downstairs, leaving Naomi Shaw standing there, both mortified and annoyed. ’What does he mean, do it again tonight? He did everything he wanted to do, and could do, last night. What more does he want from me?’
With these troubling thoughts, she went downstairs for breakfast. The wonderful mood she’d been in after hearing Arnold was awake had soured because of his words.
Seeing her expression, Mrs. Sommers asked with concern,
"Naomi, you don’t look too well today."
Naomi Shaw glanced at a certain man sitting across from her, leisurely eating his breakfast and smirking at her. Annoyed, she swallowed the words she wanted to say and lowered her head to eat her breakfast.
Dylan Donovan was incredibly clingy with Julian Donovan. Not only did he demand to be carried, he also wanted to be fed by him, using the convenient excuse that his mother’s arm was injured and she couldn’t take care of him. Julian Donovan had practically become a super-dad, ordered around by the little boy to do this and that. As Naomi Shaw ate, she cautiously snuck a glance at him, only to find not a trace of impatience on his face. The anxiety she had been feeling gradually began to ease.
After breakfast, the two of them took Dylan to the hospital to visit Arnold. Julian Donovan drove, with her and Dylan as passengers. In fact, back when they were together, she had rarely gone out with him. At the time, she was afraid of Ian Shaw finding out. Plus, she had classes to attend and he was always busy with work, so they had never gone on outings or eaten out together.
He drove very steadily. The weather was clear and bright. The tropical sky was a brilliant, clear, and expansive blue. As they passed a square, Dylan saw people outside flying kites and piped up,
"Mommy, I want to fly a kite too!"
Naomi Shaw looked up at the azure sky. It was indeed a perfect day for flying kites, but with her hand injured, she could only say to Dylan,
"Mommy’s hand is hurt right now. I’ll take you some other day, okay?"
Naomi Shaw had barely finished speaking when he, driving beside her, suddenly turned his head and shot her an annoyed glare.
"I’m a grown man sitting right here, and you just ignore me?"
Dylan said happily,
"Oh, right! Daddy can fly it with me! Mommy, you can just watch from the side!"
"Don’t you have to go to work?"
Naomi Shaw asked him innocently. ’He’s always so busy. After seeing Arnold, isn’t he supposed to head to the company?’
His tone was sharp.
"The Shaw Dominion is mine. I’ll go if I want to, and I won’t if I don’t!"
’No matter how busy I am, how could I not take my son to fly a kite when he’s this excited? The most infuriating part is how she completely ignores my presence. Does she even think of me as our son’s father?’ Julian Donovan was furious with her.
Seeing that he was angry, Naomi Shaw didn’t say anything more. ’Sigh, what can I do? It seems I’ll never understand what he’s thinking. How can he possibly fall in love with me like this?’
When they arrived at the hospital and saw Arnold, Naomi Shaw’s tears began to flow uncontrollably. Arnold smiled weakly and comforted her,
"Miss Naomi, don’t cry. Look, I’m fine now, aren’t I?"
Crying, Naomi Shaw shook her head.
"Don’t ever do something so foolish again. No one is worth sacrificing your life for!"
