CAT WARLOCK: This Darklord Feasts Upon Horror-Chapter 222: Aurora’s Family
Selina spent a few days training with Crow. Her fighting skill grew exponentially. She was getting better everyday and everyone could see it.
Mater and Selina had also visited Justin Mei a few times. The defamation case continued as planned. Justin also devised a plan to create a fake identity for Blanche. Her full name was Blanche Isles, a long lost sister of Selina.
Then it was time. Time for Aurora to take her life back and reclaim her name, Alice Rosenberg.
There were some complications relating to her death. Her parents had filed for her death certificate even though her body was never found.
Mater intended to find out what had happened. He was very protective of his servants.
Selina also tagged along. She rode the motorcycle to the house of Aurora’s parents. The black cat stood in the front while Aurora sat behind.
Aurora’s parents had a nice house in the suburban area of Aeliz City. They had a nice green yard and yellow wooden fence. A good place for any child to grow up.
Memories flooded back to Aurora as soon as she saw the place. She was raised here, had her first fall, first birthday and first day of school.
Aurora had already put the Mimicry Mask on. She looked exactly like when she was alive.
"You’re ready?" The black cat meowed.
Aurora couldn’t breathe. Not because she was worried. But because she was still an undead. However, if she could, Aurora would definitely take a deep breath to brace herself.
Aurora nodded, "Let’s go, Master."
Selina led in front and pressed the doorbell. There was silence for a few seconds before a voice finally responded.
"Coming!"
The door opened and there she was, Aurora’s mother. She was an old lady with salt and pepper hair.
"Can I help you, Miss?" The woman said.
"No. But maybe you can help her." Selina stepped to the side and revealed Aurora.
The woman dropped the glass of alcohol in her hands. She covered her mouth in shock.
"Alice... Is that you?" She said tremblingly.
"Hi Mom!" Aurora smiled.
The woman lunged forward and hugged Aurora. She fell to the floor and cried her heart out.
Mater couldn’t understand what the woman could be feeling right now. But from the sight of it, the black cat thought maybe she was both feeling relieved and guilty.
"I’m sorry, Alice. We tried. Your father and I but..." The woman could barely speak clearly.
"It’s alright, Mom. Let’s go inside."
Aurora’s mother tried to compose herself. She looked over to Selina.
"This is my friend, she’s called Selina." Aurora said.
"Thank you. Thank you for bringing my daughter back to me."
"I didn’t do anything, miss. It wasn’t me who helped her."
Selina wanted to point at the cat and said it was him. But she knew it would accomplish nothing.
They went inside the house and Aurora’s mother broke out in tears again. She and Aurora hugged and talked for a long time.
Then she was ready to speak about the important matter.
"I heard that you reported my death. Why did you do that, Mother?" Aurora said.
There was obvious guilt in the mother’s face. She avoided looking directly at Aurora.
"I will call your father. It’s better if he’s the one to explain."
Aurora’s mother picked up the phone and dialed who was supposed to be Aurora’s biological father. The mother didn’t tell him the true reason and just told him to come back because of an emergency.
The father came back after half an hour. His reaction was the same. Shock, disbelief, then broke down.
He knelt at Aurora’s knees and begged for forgiveness.
Then everything was revealed.
The reason why they reported her death. It was rather a simple series of events.
After her disappearance, her father was caught in an accident. He drank too much because of the loss of his daughter and rammed into another car.
The other victim survived but their hospital bill and the court fee wasn’t cheap. Her father lost his job and couldn’t feed the family any more.
So he reported her death for the insurance money. It was just enough to settle the court fees, hospital bills for both the victim and her father, and keep their family survive for a while until her father found another job.
’Huh. So there is absolutely nothing to be concerned about.’ The black cat thought to itself.
The father did it because of a good reason. It might be wrong but in Mater’s eyes, that was a very forgivable sin.
’There is, however, the problem with the government...’ The black cat stroked its whiskers, ’Justin really is a good lawyer. He even anticipated an exact situation. Well, I hope that he will be able to deal with this.’
Mater let Aurora stay the night in her parents’ home and left with Selina. They would have plenty of time to discuss what happened.
Aurora had already prepared a cover story to tell her parents. A freak accident that caused her to lose her memory. It was very cliche but Mater was too lazy to think of a better one.
"School is coming, Selina. How are you feeling?" The black cat meowed.
The pair rode on the highway where their last Bronze Bounty was. Wind blew in their faces.
"Ugh! I don’t like schools!" Selina said.
"Why? Is there a particular reason you don’t like them?"
"It’s because they were never there for me." Selina said.
She was, of course, referring to her parents, Iris and Thomas. When the other kids had their parents come and picked them up, Selina was always alone.
The sight of Aurora made her emotional. Aurora had parents that loved her.
Selina knew that her parents had a good reason to do what they did. But she would be lying if she said she didn’t hold any grudge toward them.
"There. There." The black cat floated in the air alongside the motorcycle. "You have nothing to worry about. You will no longer be alone. Because I will always be there with you."
The effect of Omnimotion allowed him to fly as easily as walk.
Suddenly, they saw a pair of kids standing in the middle of streets waving at them. The kids wore white clothes. Their hands moved mechanically like robots.
"Your Chaos Singularity is stable. Wanna devour a few wraiths to feel better?" The black cat meowed.
Selina licked her lips.
