Chapter 85: Will You Help Me?

Cassandra was frightened. She did not know when Ed had come into the room.

’Am I always careless?’

’Why can’t I ever know when this person is near.’

’My poor heart is going to have a heart attack one of these days.’

Even though Princess Cassandra thought so, she smiled and turned to look at her guard whose eyes were filled with questions and curiosity.

"Princess?" Aiden raised his eyebrows, waiting eagerly to know what Cassandra was hiding.

But that was not all. Duke Salvador also wanted to know what the fifth Princess had heard in the hall today. Even though Duke Salvador was unsure, he wanted to know the thoughts that made Princess Cassandra nervous.

"Ed." Cassandra fiddled with her hand. She got up and moved towards the window. Her eyes were looking out, unsure of how she should say what she wanted to.

’Suddenly I feel that the air today is soft.’

’The forest looks peaceful.’

’Look a blue butterfly.’

Cassandra’s mind was distracted. Her gaze never stops at a point. Everything surrounding her became interesting that would attack her attention.

"Is the fifth Princess avoiding me?" Aiden moved behind Princess Cassandra as he looked at her with a soft gaze.

He did not want to make her frightened. Aiden knew that something was bothering Cassandra and he wanted to be a support for her.

’But I cannot do anything until she tells me anything.’

’You cannot help a person who is not asking for it, otherwise, you become a nuisance to them.’

Aiden’s hands formed a fist. He wanted to extend it and touch the fifth Princess’s head lightly but he restricted himself. It was difficult but Duke Salvador kept her feelings buried within himself.

Cassandra’s eyes shifted towards Ed whose presence was unavoidable. "Why don’t we sit somewhere."

Aiden did not move for some time but soon he nodded his head and gave way to the Princess.

Cassandra was afraid. She walked towards a small table as she sat down. She could feel that if Ed did sit on the chair opposite her, the whole room would look small against his frame and she was right.

Ed was looking straight at her, unbothered with the fact that the chair was small for him. He could feel that something really was bothering the fifth Princess. It was evident even when Cassandra tried to mask it.

"Princess."

"Ed, do you sometimes feel like you want something to happen but then something completely opposite occurs and you cannot do anything. It feels as if nothing is under your control." Cassandra cut Ed’s words as a sad smile formed on her face. "I feel the same."

Duek Salvador was silent. He could see the sadness dripping out of Cassandra’s face but he still could not do anything.

Princess Cassandra gave a small laugh as she looked at her guard who had become her friend. "I feel like that sometimes. I feel like I was living happily and freely when no one had their eyes on me but now I feel completely out of place."

Cassandra looked down at her hand that was on the table, interlocked with each other. "I wish I could go back in time."

Aiden moved a little forward. His hands were about to touch Cassandra’s face when he heard her say. "But I know it cannot happen."

Aiden formed a fist as he took his hand back. He took deep breaths as he asked. "What is bothering you, Princess. Maybe I can help you."

"No one can help me because I don’t know what is wrong. I am in a whirlpool just shifting, rotating here and there."

"Princess is thinking too deeply. All the whirlpools become silent over time. They are never ongoing." Aiden’s voice was small and distant, but it hit Cassandra’s heart.

"But when will it quiet down? How long do I have to suffer till it becomes normal?" Cassandra’s voice shook at the end. Tears were about to form at the end of her eyes.

"If it is bothering you so much, tell me. I will come in the whirlpool with you, maybe then you will have someone to relate to you. You will not be alone."

Cassandra looked up at Ed. "Will you?"

Aiden looked straight at Princess Cassandra’s eyes. His strong gaze gave the confidence that Cassandra lacked.

Cassandra was silent. She could not say anything, not because she did not have anything to say but because Cassandra could feel sudden warmth in her heart. It was a comfortable feeling for once.

’Can I trust you, Ed?’

’Will you help me?’

’Will you hold me tight and not betray me?’

Cassandra swallowed as she rubbed her eyes. She knew that it was time to tell the truth.

"Ed, I have something to tell you but you should not tell it to anyone." Cassandra’s voice was small and stiff.

Aiden could sense the courage it might have taken the Princess to say them. He nodded his head as he waited for her to continue.

"But before that, you have to tell me what you think of people who have powers other than the four elements?"

Aiden smiled softly. "Princess, possessing powers or not, is not in our hands. And what powers we have are in the hands of faith. Even if someone possesses a power that does not fit into Elvira Empire’s regulations they are still powers. Something that should be cultivated."

Cassandra looked at Ed who said those words. Her eyes tried to find a safe place in him, and she soon found it. Cassandra giggled as she rubbed the water away from her eyes. "So if I tell you something that you could not imagine, we will still be friends, right? You won’t betray me? You won’t think I use dark magic?"

Aiden sensed the panic and trembled in Cassandra’s tone. "Is Princess ready to talk about her powers?"

Cassandra’s eyes turned sharp as she looked at the man whose aura changed suddenly. The calmness was replaced by sharpness as his eyes turned the dark shade of red.

’How did he change his eyes’ shade.’

’It had become darker.’

’Just like ..’

Cassandra shook her head, denying the possibilities. ’I am thinking too much. This cannot be true.’

Cassandra tried telling herself that but soon her mind was in a mess. Many scenarios popped up in her brain.

’How can this be?’

’Their whole persona is different.’

’They are completely opposite to one another.’

’I am thinking too much into something that is not there in the first place.’

’With Ed I am comfortable. I can be the way I want. He is a friend who understands me. But ...’

’That man is different. He is arrogant and indifferent to others’ suffering. He makes my heart frightened, no shiver to the core. I feel like I am walking on thin ice whenever I am with him but the walk with Ed is filled with warmth.’

’I am thinking too much.’

Aiden laughed as he moved forward. "Princess, you tell me your secret and I will tell you mine. After all, we are friends and friends do share secrets."

Duke Salvador said in his regular tone, making Princess Cassandra’s spin shiver.

"So should I say that you already know my secret then?" Cassandra managed to say. Even though normally she would not say this to the man with such a tone but now the one sitting in front of her was Ed.

Princess Cassandra was used to talking with Ed in such a way. The comfort level she had shared with him was embedded within her.

’Habits are hard to break.’

Cassandra thought. Her eyes locked on Ed.

"I can guess just like the Princess can guess my secret." Aiden’s tone was filled with happiness. "So who will go first?"

Princess Cassandra was silent. Her hands fiddled with each other. What was she supposed to say now? Will it make any difference?

’If Prince Carl and Princess Teimei could know that I could hear thoughts then he could also know it.’

’But how could he know it for sure?’

Cassandra’s eyes looked at the man sitting in front of her. Her eyes shifted from his body to the table. Cassandra’s eyes halted on his hands as her breathing halted.

’The Duke attacked him.’

’That is what he said.’

’And I went there with the bottle of medicine.’

Cassandra’s breathing fastened. Her mind was now clear. There was no way to deny it. It was evident what had happened.

"Maybe I should go first." Cassandra sighed. "But it is difficult to explain something that is already known."

"Yes, it is. But I still want to know. The Princess should rest assured that I will always be on her side. You should trust this friend of yours. I will not betray my friends." Aiden said.

"Yes, maybe I should believe your words for once." Cassandra smiled but her hands were shivering. It was difficult for her to acknowledge it.

’I cannot be angry with him.’

’We both have lied to each other.’

’Maybe we should start afresh.’

’After all, we have known each other personally now, irrespective of what the rumors say.’

Cassandra gathered her courage as she smiled. "But before that, you should remove the mask from your face."
