CASSANDRA: The Unfavored Princess-Chapter 71: Reach Elvira
Princess Valeria raised her eyebrows.
"Sorry Princess, I should not have kept you waiting but the workload was too high." The man walked towards the first Princess with a smile on his face. "After all, the work of the secretary is not easy."
Princess Valeria wanted to fold her hand but the restraint was strong. Princess Valeria was getting frustrated. "I had no idea that the secretary thought I was a true heir to the throne."
The secretary blinked as his gaze stayed on the first Princess. "Of course, the most powerful will be the next Emperor and our family has always taken an active participation in the process."
"Active participation?" Princess Valeria’s lips curled up as she narrowed her gaze. "Will the secretary explain his words?"
"Yes, Princess. I am here to do the same." The secretary smiled as he stood at a distance from the first Princess.
Princess Valeria waited. She was always curious to know how the secretary maintained his position. The post was always given down in the family alone as if it was their earned right.
The family sat proudly in the seat. It was their territory. But it was a mystery to others.
"It had started since the separation of the Elvira and the Vivere Kingdom. The prophecy was given out and the assumptions were made immediately. The Royal Family was the one who could be the one ruling." The secretary said as he looked past Princess Valeria into the distance.
"Only the brightest star can bring peace to Elvira. And the brightest star is the one who can control all the four elements and possess the golden hairs." The secretary looked at the first Princess as he continued. "But only a few people know that it is nearly impossible to possess four elements at its strongest point."
"The Emperor has to be mentally strong as well. Strong in desire and strong in actions. They have to be able to reach Elvira." The secretary said as he moved his face towards the first Princess. His gaze told him that the man was not in the mood for a joke. What he said was the truth that had to be acknowledged.
’Mentally strong?’
’Strong in desire?’
’Strong in action?’
’What is the secretary saying?’
’Is he playing games with me?’
’Or is he here to relieve his boredom?’
Princess Valeria was about to ask a few things that were not adding up in her mind but before she could say something, the secretary continued with his words.
"The first Princess is the only one capable enough in the Palace that could be the next Emperor and I am here to give you my help. I will help you to achieve the throne and be the most powerful. Once you are in that seat the first Princess can do anything she wants. You can have anyone you want. Even if that is a Duke."
Princess Valeria’s lips curled up as her gaze sharpened. She took a step forward towards the secretary. "How will the secretary help me? You do not have the power or the influence. The people will never accept me who have not awakened all the elemental power."
The secretary raised his eyebrows. "How does the Princess think the Emperor you father took hold of the throne?"
Princess Valeria’s face fell as her eyes became dull. Princess Valeria was still as her mind started running in all possible directions.
’How did father become the Emperor’
’How?’
’He can control all the elements.’
’I have experienced it myself.’
’But if something else had been involved in the process then ..’
Princess Valeria gazed up as she looked at the secretary with an uncertain look. The secretary might have guessed the questions in Princess Valeria’s gaze.
"At the start of the Empire the people who ruled truly possess the power to control all the four elements. None of the elemental power overpowered the others but as the descendants started to form, the power decreased. It was our family who retained the knowledge of how to control all the four elements."
The secretary said as he walked past the Princess as he moved towards the end of the space. The night was dark as the air was giving a cool breeze along the way.
"I will help the first Princess to achieve her goal but then she needs to help me as well."
Princess Valeria turned around as she asked in a slow voice. "What does the secretary desire?"
The secretary laughed. "We are weak in power. We cannot control the power to the fullest so my ancestors were always proud to take up the position of secretary. Your family enjoys authority and honor." The secretary turned to face the first Princess. "But I want more."
Princess Valeria raised her eyebrows as she waited for the secretary to continue.
The secretary thought back to when he felt helpless in front of the four Dukes. His opinions were dismissed as his network was questioned.
The burning desire to prove oneself was stronger than ever. The rage that was buried deeply was still there. The secretary wanted to prove to the whole Elvira Empire what his value is.
"I want something that I had always admired. Something that I crave for."
"And what would that be?" Princess Valeria asked as she looked at the man who was engulfed in his own thoughts.
"Power. I want power." The secretary looked at the first Princess. "I will show you how to gain all the four elements and in return, the first Princess should help me gain the powers I need."
-------
Princess Cassandra turned around in her sleep as she tried to relax.
Meeting Duke Salvador was too stressful for the fifth Princess to handle.
Cassandra got up from her bed and rubbed her forehead. Her eyes still closed as she tried to tell herself that the Duke was gone. She could relax now.
But yet Cassandra could not do that. There was a little hesitation as Cassandra opened her eyes as she sighed.
"The Princess could not sleep?" A husky voice asked. But this time Cassandra was not frightened.
Maybe it was because Cassandra felt that Duke Salvador was still there.
"Ed?" Cassandra said as she looked around in the darkroom to search for the outline of her guard.
"Yes," Aiden came forward in the outfit of the guard. His face was covered as only his eyes were visible. He took a step towards the bed of the fifth Princess where Cassandra was now sitting, covered with a blanket to keep her warm.
"When did you arrive?" Cassandra asked as she indicated Ed to come a little closer. She could not see the man, making Cassandra dissatisfied.
"I arrived when the Princess was about to sleep."
"Then why didn’t you tell me?" Cassandra looked up. Her blue eyes collided with his red gaze.
"I did not want to disturb the Princess. Princess Cassandra had worked so hard so I wished that she would have a pleasant sleep."
Aiden looked down at Cassandra’s hand that was outside of the blanket, helping to keep it in place. It was swallowed and red due to all the writing that the darkness could not hold.
Aiden’s gaze softened as he took a step forward but halted.
Cassandra could feel the moment of Ed. Maybe it was darkness, but soon Cassandra’s senses sharpened. She blinked as asked. "What happened?"
"Is Princess hurt?" Aiden asked. A tint of sadness clouded his sight.
"Huh?" Princess Cassandra was confused. She did not understand what the question was about but soon she understood where Ed’s gaze was focused. Cassandra followed as she smiled. "No, I just completed writing."
"Completed writing?" Aiden asked in amazement. After meeting with the fifth Princess, he had gone back to the estate to finish his remaining work before coming back here as Ed.
’Even if it was only a few hours, was it enough time to write all the remaining content of the book?’
’Of course not, the fifth Princess should have taken at least a few more days.’
’Why did Princess Cassandra write so fast?’
’What would have been the reason?’
Aiden’s mind was filled with different thoughts as he looked at Princess Cassandra turning around as she took the book out from somewhere.
"Here." Cassandra offered the book to Ed as she explained looking down nervously. "The Duke asked me to give the book to you once I am done coping with it."
"But did the Princess really finish it?" Aiden asked.
"Yes." Cassandra nodded her head in confidence. "Word to word."
Ed looked at Cassandra’s face as he laughed. "The Princess could have given it to me tomorrow morning as well."
"Yes, but I was too tense to think about anything. Anyway, you keep it first, and don’t forget to return it back to the Duke."
Aiden nodded as he kept the book as if hiding a treasure.
"Princess," Aiden said in a soft tone as he saw Cassandra’s eyes filled with sleep.
"Hmm .."
"From tomorrow onwards the Vivere Kingdom’s people will enter the Capital."
"Hmm .."
"So I can only accompany you at night. The Princess had to teach me only at night."
Cassandra’s eyes opened as she looked at Ed who was standing in front of her.
"Is it?" Cassandra asked as her tone was filled with disappointment.
"Yes, the Princess should sleep now .."
"Ed, stay the night here."
