CASSANDRA: The Unfavored Princess-Chapter 167: Courage
Amy was looking around in desperation.
She wanted to help the fifth princess but Amy knew that she could not use her power as she saw Princess Cassandra falling down. Her power was an earth element. Amy knew that even if she pulled a rock up, Princess Cassandra might get hurt.
Amy’s heart was beating faster. She looked around only to see how she could help.
Duke Salvador was facing the witch but his hands indicated Blazh and Lord Bentham. Initially, Amy did not understand what it meant but soon when she saw everyone helping the fifth princess Amy knew that even now, the Duke cared about Princess Cassandra.
Amy was happy. Her heart suddenly softened as she realized that Princess Cassandra had made some real friends. Someone who would not judge her and would always help her.
Amy was happy that after so many years Princess Cassandra was surrounded by good and positive people.
But soon Amy’s eye shivered. She saw from a distance that the Grand Duke took something out from his pocket. It was a sharp object and soon Amy realized that it was nothing else but a knife.
Even though they had powers, the elements were within them, protecting them, but they could never forget that the body was human. They could die because of multiple reasons: poisoning, choking, drowning, and even by stab.
Amy could see the Grand Duke close his eyes as he tried to aim at the fifth Princess. Maybe he was waiting for the chance that the Princess would be down on the ground so his aim would not miss.
Amy swallowed hard. She did not think twice. How could she let such a thing happen to her master? How could she let such a thing happen to the fifth Princess? Her sister, her friend, the person she has dedicated her whole life to, the person who had put her out from the hard life of poverty and despair.
Princess Cassandra was the one who had taken Amy along through her journey. No matter how bad the situation was, Amy always felt that Princess Cassandra was always there.
When Amy first came into the palace to work, she was not treated equally. Sometimes Amy could feel hurt and pain because she was not given the proper treatment that she deserved but then Amy soon realized that it was because of her powers. She was too weak and at some point, people even considered throwing her out of the palace which would take her back to her old life. Amy did not want to do that. What if the people sold her off?
Amy did not have any parents and the only relatives that she had were not good people. The only way to survive was being in the palace but Amy also knew that it would be impossible if she could not serve anyone. She was too weak to be a guard, she was too weak to do anything else.
It was at that time that Princess Cassandra who never used to talk had taken a step forward. The fifth Princess who was young had looked at her in the eyes and told everyone else in a soft voice. Amy could still remember the shaking in Princess Cassandra’s voice. She could only imagine, how much power the fifth Princess would have needed at that particular time.
No one loved Princess Cassandra in the palace and yet it was the first time she demanded anything. "Leave, let her serve me. I feel like we both would understand each other."
All the maids made fun of Amy as well as the fifth Princess. They said that they both suited each other. But Amy herself was grateful to the fifth Princess. She did not know why the fifth Princess had helped her.
Amy knew Princess Cassandra was not someone who would be powerful in the future. Their life would always be on the line. Even though she knew that Amy felt indebted to the fifth Princess.
Amy knew that her and Princess Cassandra’s circumstances were almost the same. Once Amy gathered up her courage to ask Princess Cassandra; why she had helped her. And the Princess’ answer made her eyes widen. "Because I could see myself in you. I could relate to you so I just wanted you to live happily. I could see you did not want to go out of the palace."
Princess Cassandra had taken Amy’s hands into hers. "At least, one of us should be happy and I want to give you the happiness that you deserve. Maybe then when I look at you I will be happy too."
Those words of Princess Cassandra were stuck into Amy’s heart for years. Over time they soon became best of friends and more like sisters. Amy’s mind was filled with Cassandra’s image, but all she could see now was the knife and Princess Cassandra’s body.
The Grand Duke aimed the knife at Princess Cassandra as Amy’s body moved by itself. She ran towards the Princess. Her heart was beating faster and her breathing increased. Amy had only one mission, to protect Princess Cassandra and nothing else.
Amy did not care about anything else. All she knew was that the person she loved and cared for the most was in danger. Amy soon realized that the Grand Duke was not only aiming at the princess. The knife was surrounded by a dark aura. It was surrounded by darkness.
Princess Cassandra had told her that darkness could travel places without getting noticed. As if teleporting. Amy realized what the Grand Duke was trying to do. He was trying to attack, using teleportation. No one would know if the knife entered from near. It was a perfect plan. And saw that the Grand Duke was so far away, who would even care about it.
Amy’s steps increased as she ran. Amy was lacking breath but her eyes were filled with only the thought. Only Princess Cassandra and the knife was in her mind. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
Amy saw the knife move but it soon disappeared, as if it was never there. Amy’s heartbeat stopped for a second. She moved at the fastest speed and stood beside Princess Cassandra. If her calculation was right, the knife would be near her rather than the fifth Princess, she would be in the middle.
Soon the knife appeared again, just away from Amy’s body. Before she knew it, Amy was stabbed by it. She could feel the pain the knife brought her. It entered her skin as if slicing all the layers. Amy could feel her blood dripping off. Her hands touched the wound as her fingertips were filled with blood. There was a watery feeling. But Amy did not regret it.
Amy’s eyes were still in shock but managed to turn her head and looked at the fifth Princess.
Princess Cassandra whose breathing was yet to be normalized walked towards Amy.
Cassandra’s eyes were shaking and her body could not understand what was happening. Princess Cassandra blamed herself as she ran towards Amy and took her in her arms before her lady in waiting could hit the ground.
Amy’s face was not filled with regret or sorrow for her life but with a smile. She was happy that she could finally bring herself to some use. She could finally save Princess Cassandra.
Cassandra sat on the ground as she laid Amy on her body. Her voice was shaking as her eyes tore up, the water refusing to stop. Princess Cassandra was sad, her voice refused to come out of her mouth and she could only see Amy in her gaze. Her best friend, her sister, her family, the only person that truly cared for her, the only person who was through thick and thin with her.
Princess Cassandra gathered up her courage as she managed to speak. "Why?"
Princess Cassandra was blaming Amy for doing this. Cassandra has always tried to protect everyone else around her. And yet...
Princess Cassandra looked down. The blood was coming out of Amy’s body. Cassandra wanted to stop it. Her hands were about to touch the knife when Blazh’s voice stopped her.
"Removing it will bring a lot more pain to her."
Princess Cassandra knew that Blazh was telling it for their own good, but how can she let her sister die.
[HELP HER!] Princess Cassandra shouted in her mind. Her voice could not come out due to shock.
None of the elements responded. It was as if they were feeling sad too. Cassandra could not stop crying.
Amy knew that the end was near. She moved her hands up, although they were filled with blood, she wanted to touch the fifth Princess one last time. Amy placed her fingers on Princess Cassandra’s cheek as she said with struggle. "Don’t cr ..y Princes...s? I am happy ....to have... help..ed you. Don’t be... sad.., oka...y. I have.. no regrets... All I wish for... is for you... to live ...happily. May your... life is filled... with only smiles ...."
With those words, Amy’s hold on Princess Cassandra lightened. Amy knew that she had very little time left. Maybe a few seconds. As Amy’s fingers move down, she smiles sweetly for one last time. "Live ... a happy...life for ..me...You should live happily.." With those words, Amy closed her eyes as her breathing stopped.
