Chapter 136: Sister

Princess Cassandra looked at the man.

Lord Bentham did not respond the way Cassandra was hoping he might. It was a clear indication that Lord Bentham could not hear her thoughts.

’So Lord Bentham does not have this power.’

’But he surely knows someone who had it. If my mother really had such powers then why did the Vivere Kingdom’s Royal family know about it?’

’Did Lord Bentham or did the Grand Duke say something to the royals?’

Princess Cassandra was betting on this possibility. Her eyes narrowed as she looked at Lord Bentham. Duke Salvador’s words struck her. ’You cannot know until you ask.’

Princess Cassandra took a deep breath as she closed her eyes. Her thoughts concentrated towards Lord Bentham as she opened her eyes once she felt connected.

[You know my mother taught you. You knew her right?]

Achard Bentham was frightened. The sudden incoming voice was something he did not anticipate. He had thought that his conversation with Princess Cassandra was done, but who would have thought that the fifth Princess wanted to continue talking.

Lord Bentham blinked as he looked at the fifth Princess. Her face resembled his nanny. Although Lord Bentham wanted to deny it he could not. Somewhere within the dept of his heart, he knew that his nanny would want her daughter to know the truth.

[I cannot deny it any further. I knew your mother.] Lord Bentham thought as he looked down. [She was a loving and caring person. Someone with a unique ability that could read people’s thoughts. Maybe the power is inherited by you, that’s why you have survived for this long.]

Princess Cassandra nodded. She understood that it was not the right time and place to ask any further. Lord Bentham had talked about survival for a reason. She survived because she hid her powers and used them intelligently.

But there was something that was making Princess Cassandra unsteady. She felt that she needed to ask the question to make her mind a little more peaceful.

Although Princess Cassandra was afraid, she still asked. [Do we have the same mother?]

Lord Bentham’s eyes widened. He did not know how to answer this question. They did not share any blood but the relationship that they had was stronger than blood. Or at least it used to be before his father Grand Duke tried to ruin everything.

[No.] Lord Bentham managed to say but his gaze softened. [But I have always seen you as my sister]

Princess Cassandra did not know what Lord Bentham was getting at. If they were not related then how could they be siblings? The mystery behind her birth was troubling Princess Cassandra.

But as Cassandra moved her eyes up she could see clearly in Lord Bentham’s gaze that he did not want to talk further regarding this matter. He had initially said that talking more about this will bring her a lot more problems.

Princess Cassandra swallowed her questions as she looked outside. As soon as she started to concentrate on the road and the road surrounding their path, her eyes collided with a pair of red glowing gazes. At that point, Cassandra knew she would have a lot of explaining to do once she came out of the carriage.

—---

As soon as the carriage stopped, Duke Salvador got down from the horse as he walked towards the carriage. The irritation he was feeling was evident in his eyes.

All along the way, Aiden could feel small movements inside the carriage. There were times he wanted to rush inside the carriage. He wanted to stop them and pull Princess Cassandra out, but Aiden controlled himself. He moved his horse beside the carriage in the hope that he could hear something but to his dismay no sound was coming out.

Aiden was desperate. He trusted Princess Cassandra a lot but he did not trust his once best friend. Duke Salvador feared that if Achard Bentham could fool them for so many years he could fool the innocent Princess as well.

As Aiden Salvador moved towards the carriage he saw the door open. His eyes narrowed as his steps fastened.

Soon Duke Salvador saw Lord Bentham coming out of the carriage. Both the men looked at each other. The atmosphere was tense but it didn’t matter. Aiden put his hand out so that Princess Cassandra could take it but at the same time, he saw Lord Bentham doing the same.

Duke Salvador’s other hand formed a fist. He controlled his burning rage waiting for the fifth Princess’s reaction. He was sure that Princess Cassandra would take his hand alone. After all, Aiden felt that he was much closer to the Princess. He loved her and she too had feelings for him.

But the reality was something beyond Aiden’s expectation. When Princess Cassandra saw the two hands she could not help but pause. She did not want to make Duke Salvador think otherwise but she did not want to lose Lord Bentham’s trust as well. Princess Cassandra knew that she needed to know more things from Lord Bentham.

But before Cassandra could make any decision she heard the voice of Princess Teimei’s thoughts. [Why is Princess Cassandra taking so long? Did she really doubt us? Did she doubt Achard?]

Princess Cassandra swallowed as she moved her hand towards Lord Bentham but the glaring red eyes stopped her. Princess Cassandra could not help but sigh. She took a deep breath as she held both of their hands and came out.

"Thank you." Princess Cassandra murmured but Aiden Salvador’s hold on her hand tightened.

Princess Cassandra could feel that the Duke was not happy but she did not have time to make him feel better.

Princess Cassandra could feel something. Something was in the air. Princess Cassandra had never felt something so refreshing before. Princess Cassandra took a deep breath as he closed her eyes.

Princess Cassandra’s body trembled as a smile formed on her face. It was then that she knew that it was a pure source of air.

Princess Cassandra could not explain how she was so sure of it, she knew what she was feeling. Her heart was filled with love. Her body felt levitating and her soul felt fresh.

Princess Cassandra opened her eyes as she looked at Duke Salvador who was observing her. Princess Cassandra’s face was filled with smiles as she blinked at Duke Salvador.

Aiden could sense Princess Cassandra’s reaction that she had felt the source they were looking for. But the problem was that Princess Cassandra was too happy. Duke Salvador feared that if anyone from the Vivere Kingdom found out about this then all their hard work would go in vain.

"I know that the Princess is happy to see nature this close. You must have missed the forest while we came to the Vivere Kingdom." Duke Salvador said in a hushed tone. His eyes were dead without any emotion. All he hoped was that the fifth Princess could understand his silent plea and not express too much.

It was at that time that Princess Cassandra’s lady in waiting came running with a hat. "Princess wear this. It is so windy here."

Amy tried to adjust the hat on the fifth Princess’s head as she blocked the view. "Princess, you need to explain. How can you be so irresponsible" 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Princess Cassandra turned serious. Although Amy was saying such words, Cassandra could hear her true thoughts.

[Princess, how can you communicate with me through thoughts? I thought you could only hear what others think.]

Princess Cassandra touched her hat as she said to distract others. "Amy, you know me. I am too excited. I was dying inside the closed doors."

[Amy, you tell Duke Salvador that Lord Bentham had taught me this. He knows my mother and before I forget, this had an air element.]

Amy nodded her head as she moved away. Amy’s eyes were filled with determination. Her goal was clear. This was their mission and being careless was not an option.

Amy smiled as she saw Princess Teimei coming towards the fifth Princess with her fiance. Amy bowed before she turned around ordering Ed. "Ed, help me to remove the basket from the carriage. Princess Cassandra wants to eat something."

Duke Salvador who was standing beside all this time was confused seeing the interaction. He did not see any unusual behaviours but somehow Aiden could feel that some very important information was passed on.

Aiden looked at Princess Cassandra who turned around for a brief second as she nodded her head. Aiden could only sigh as he filled Amy with the carriage.

There were people looking at their every move and Duke Salvador could feel it. He could not understand how Amy was going to communicate with him. She was not a trained soldier. But all of Duke’s worry was useless.

As they stood in close proximity, touching the basket, Amy suddenly looked at Ed as she indicated to him to look down with her eyes.

As soon as Duke Salvador looked down there were small letters written on the land explaining the whole situation to him.
