Chapter 135: Erebus

Princess Cassandra was silent.

Although she wanted to defend, Princess Cassandra had nothing to say. It was true that she was involved with Lord Bentham because of Duke Salvador’s meddling in between.

"So now that we are in a fake engagement, we should at least follow it till the end." Lord Bentham smiled as he rested his head on his hand. He was looking outside but his gaze was sharp.

Princess Cassandra did not know what the Lord was looking at but she could tell that he was seeing something that she cannot.

’Is he looking at Duke Salvador?’

’Did he know that Ed is the Duke?’

’It could not be.’

Princess Cassandra was worried as she looked at Lord Bentham with narrowed eyes. "Should the Lord explain the situation to me?" Cassandra said in a low tone.

[I can explain it to you if you don’t mind communicating in this way.] Lord Bentham thought as he looked at the fifth Princess. [There are many eyes on us trying to hear drops.]

"But how can I .."

Before Princess Cassandra could complete the sentence, Lord Bentham smiled as his thoughts entered Cassandra’s mind. [Don’t ask your questions so openly Princess. I will teach you how to do it.]

Princess Cassandra was quiet as she listened to Lord Bentham’s voice. [Close your eyes and concentrate. You will be able to see and connect. Just concentrate and follow that path. Once you reach its end you can communicate with me through thoughts as well.]

Princess Cassandra’s mind stopped processing for a few seconds. She narrowed her eyes as she looked at the Lord but Cassandra could only see the determination in his eyes.

’He might be telling the truth.’

’Should I just follow his instructions?’

Lord Bentham could sense the uneasiness and distrust in the Princess’s gaze. He smiled as he blinked. [Trust me, Princess. I will never hurt you.]

Princess Cassandra chuckled at the words as she sneered. "Like I will trust you."

Lord Bentham shook his head as he saw the fifth Princess following his instruction. A smile played on his face as he saw her listening to him.

[Just follow my voice.] Lord Bentham said.

Princess Cassandra followed the lead as she closed her eyes. She could hear a lot of thoughts but she concentrated only at Lord Bentham’s as other noises disappeared. A thread of orange colour glowed in the darkness as Cassandra followed it.

Cassandra touched the thread and soon it hurriedly tied itself as it entered the crystal. Cassandra was confused. She did not know what was happening. Cassandra opened her eyes in shock as she looked straight into Lord Bentham’s eyes.

Cassandra swallowed as she focused her concentration on Lord Bentham. [Lord Bentham.] Princess Cassandra said in her mind, unsure if the Lord could listen to her or not.

But soon Princess Cassandra saw Lord Bentham smiling. [Yes Princess.]

Princess Cassandra’s eyes widened as she looked at Achard Bentham in shock. Cassandra swallowed as her throat ran dry. Cassandra wanted to make sure that her thoughts were not running wide and that everyone was not able to listen to her.

Princess Cassandra blinked her eyes as she looked out. She changed her target as Cassandra started focusing on Amy’s thoughts.

[Is Princess Cassandra okay?]

[Should I have sat with her in the carriage?]

Princess Cassandra smiled. [Amy.] 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

Amy, who was in the carriage of the servants, sat straight. Her eyes widened as she looked around in confusion. She just thought that Princess Cassandra was there. Amy’s heartbeats were running wide as her breathing increased.

[Princess?]

Princess Cassandra looked at Lord Bentham who did not show any reaction. [Can you hear me, Amy?]

Amy swallowed as she thought [Yes, how is it possible. Princess are you okay?]

Princess Cassandra could understand what Amy would be feeling right now. How confused she might be. [It’s okay Amy. I am trying something new. I will talk with you and Duke Salvador about it later.]

Amy, who was confused, nodded her head but her eyes were still blurred. She could not understand what was happening. How could she suddenly understand Princess Cassandra’s thoughts? The uneasiness increased in Amy’s heart as she blinked.

Amy looked outside as she gazed at the fifth Princess’s carriage. It was filled with concern. Her eyes looked for Duke Salvador who was on a horse beside the carriage. Amy wanted to tell him what she had just ex[periences but Amy could not do anything. She was not alone in the carriage, there was Princess Teimei’s lady in waiting there.

Even if Amy could call the Duke here, she was not sure how she would be able to tell it to the Duke. Amy could only sigh as she looked back inside.

[I hope you don’t put yourself in danger Princess,] Amy thought as she looked down.

Princess Cassandra looked at the Lord who was waiting for Princess Cassandra’s attention to be refocused on him. Princess Cassandra could only sigh as she thought. [How do you know this?]

[Princess, you are always filled with curiosity.] Lord Bentham’s eyes glowed as his lips curled up. [I learned it from your mother. She had a similar power.]

Princess Cassandra’s eyes widened. [You knew my mother?]

Lord Bentham looked outside. His face reflected his true feelings, he did not want to talk about it.

[What should I call you?] Princess Cassandra changed her question. [Now that you are not a Bentham.]

Lord Bentham’s eyes sharpened. [Does Princess know something?]

Princess Cassandra smiled. There was a little fear in her heart but she still managed to say. [The Grand Duke might have told you. After all, you are his son. So what should I call the Vivere Kingdom’s Grand Duke’s son? I cannot continue calling him by the name of Lord Bentham.]

Achard nodded. [My name is Achard Erebus. But I would prefer you call me Bentham. It will not make others suspicious.]

Princess Cassandra did not understand what Lord Bentham was getting at as he looked at him in question.

Achard had no other way but to explain. [Although you know who I am, that will only put you in danger. I do not want to put you in danger yet. But I can only help you if you hel[p me.]

[And do you want me to help you?] Princess Cassandra questioned as she raised her eyebrows. [You cannot tell me the whole truth if you want to make me believe you.]

Lord Bentham smiled as he raised the corner of his lips. [If I tell you everything now, that will put you and me both in a difficult situation.]

[Why Who will know what you have told me? Are you afraid that I will leave this place once I know the truth?] Princess Cassandra’s thoughts sounded clear in Lord Bentham’s mind.

[No, I know for a fact that even if you want to leave this place you cannot. Soldiers are watching your every move.] Lord Bentham said with a smile on his face.

[I would have been dead by now if they really knew what was going on.] Princess Cassandra sneered. Even though it was her thoughts, Lord Bentham could tell that Princess Cassandra meant what she thought.

[It doesn’t matter. Anyways you should be kept in protection Princess. All the eyes will be on you after today.]

[Why?] Princess Cassandra asked as she raised her eyebrows. [Am I a plaything to them?]

Lord Bentham shook his head but he did not reply anything. Princess Cassandra had lost any hope that the Lord would reply to her.

In the silent carriage, Princess Cassandra’s thoughts were running wide. She was sure of one thing that Lord Bentham knew of her mother. If Princess Cassandra’s assumptions were correct then she would have been a resident of the Vivere Kingdom before somehow ending up in the Elvira Empire.

Princess Cassandra looked at Lord Bentham through the corner of her eyes. She could see him gazing outside, but his face was alert. Princess Cassandra narrowed her gaze as her mind stopped focusing on Lord Bentham’s thoughts.

’I hope he cannot hear me.’ Princess Cassandra thought as she observed Lord Bentham. Once she was sure that he cannot hear her thought Princess Cassandra got busy in her own world.

’Even if I belong to the Vivere Kingdom, why does the Grand Duke hate me?’

’If I am not wrong, then the Grand Duke had said that his wife died because of me.’

Princess Cassandra was trying to get her thoughts in line. If her trail of thoughts was in the right direction she might be related to the Grand Duke’s family somehow.

Princess Cassandra looked at Lord Bentham. ’But I do not resemble him at all. I cannot see anything that would make us connected.’

’Amy also thinks that Lord Bentham does not want to harm me, but if that was the case why did he bring me here? The Viver Kingdom is a dangerous place for me but he insisted on bringing me here.’

’And he also knows about my powers. He said my mother taught him how to communicate with thoughts. Then can he listen to my thoughts as well?’
