Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 722: XIU’s Trial
Chen Lian’s case was resolved quite simply.
Upon learning Chief Yan’s decision, she fell into a long silence. It did not take long for her to confess everything she had done, with one condition – her identity must be kept a secret from her family. Sometimes, it was best to remain ignorant. There was no need for them to find out about what she had been up to and added on to the unnecessary burden. It was enough to believe that their eldest had thrived abroad and lived a contented life.
This was the consequences she had been prepared for since she embarked on this bloody path.
She couldn’t retain her job as a police officer, but at the same time she faced no charges, as Chief Yan relinquished his position to shoulder the responsibility for her.
From the beginning to the end, her identity was not revealed, and thus the scandal of the Master Manipulator’s accomplice within the bureau remained confidential, which aligned with the higher-ups’ wishes to preserve their public image.
The police issued an official statement to conclude the investigation, reporting that the Master Manipulator, Ku Jin, had perished in the middle of the ambush, and the case was closed quietly without much fanfare.
Of course, the primary reason for this was because the public was currently fixated on another high-profile individual – XIU!
Due to the wide public interest, XIU’s trial would be broadcasted live on a nationwide channel and various online platforms. Even before it started, the channel had already amassed tens of thousands of eager viewers squatting as bystanders, and it immediately skyrocketed to over a million once the man made his appearance!
[Ahhh, he’s coming, he’s coming, he’s coming!!]
[Wuwuwuwu, he looks as handsome as ever!]
[Is it only my imagination or has he lost weight?]
[Mr. Judge, please be lenient with him!]
[Damn it, stop spamming the barrage comments, I can’t see the screen!]
[Lol, I wonder how many water armies has he hired for today? Everyone seems to forget that he’s a criminal and murderer.]
[Upstairs commenter, please shut up, thank you.]
[Salty much?? What has life done to you???]
In the courtroom.
The judge struck the gavel once, signaling the commencement of the trial, "Order in the court. The trial will now commence. The prosecution and defense may present their opening statements. Counsel for the prosecution, you may proceed."
Rising to his feet, the prosecutor began his narration, "Good morning, Your Honor, and to all those watching this trial via live broadcast. Today, we stand before you to present a case of great significance..."
On the audience seat, Mu Yuze’s fingers were laced atop his lap, his gaze fixated on the back of He Juan’s head, who was currently seated on the defendant bench. The man appeared utterly at ease, and he had even offered Mu Yuze a reassuring smile before the trial began. However, Mu Yuze couldn’t help but feel a little sick on his stomach, despite knowing that today’s proceedings consisted only of presenting evidence to the judges.
Apparently, his complexion must have looked quite horrible because Kang Guanyu asked him in a whisper, concerned, "Mu Yuze, are you okay? You look a little blue."
Mu Yuze silently shook his head, fearing that he would retch as soon as he opened his mouth.
In addition to the two of them, Li Zhi was also present, together with Captain Rong Simo from the Anti-Narcotics Division next door. The rest of the officers opted to watch the hearing through the live broadcast, unwilling to be trapped by the crowd of reporters outside.
The first trial lasted for around six hours, stretching from the morning into the afternoon. After it concluded, He Juan was escorted back into the car by other officers from the city bureau, with camera flashes following him along the way. Mu Yuze and Kang Guanyu lingered behind, watching over from the sidelines.
Kang Guanyu clicked his tongue, half in awe and half in sympathy, "That’s XIU for you. His popularity is really no joke." He stretched his waist and yawned, "Alright, now that the first trial is over, what do you say we grab some dinner?"
Mu Yuze declined with a shake of his head, his entire person akin to a wilted cabbage. "I’m feeling a little unwell, so I will be heading home first. Please apologize to Captain Li and Captain Rong for me."
"Hey, hey, Mu Yuze—" Kang Guanyu tried to persuade him more, but Mu Yuze had already walked away, leaving him behind.
While He Juan and Mu Yuze’s relationship had become an open secret within the Violent Crime Unit, for the rest of the world, they’re nothing but mere strangers. Nobody knew that the infamous XIU had an omega, and the aforementioned person happened to be an officer from the city bureau. Given the intense scrutiny on him, He Juan proposed to keep it this way for now, for he was unwilling to drag Mu Yuze into the spotlight with him, and Mu Yuze, knowing how their relationship could be used by some people to twist the truth to condemn He Juan, had agreed to it as well.
However, after a few days of separation from his Alpha, Mu Yuze was starting to regret this decision.
According to the regulations, He Juan was supposed to be confined in the jurisdiction prison or detention facility during the period of his trial. However, considering his high-profile identity and the pressure from Prime Minister Liang Yuanjun, he temporarily settled in a designated house owned by the prime minister with round-the-clock surveillance. His phone was confiscated, and everything he did or said was scrutinized by the stationed officers.
Simply put, he was under house arrest. But those involved in the case were well aware that Liang Yuanjun arranged this on purpose for his safety. After all, he had quite a lot of enemies around the country, and Chen Lian was just one of them.
The trial was expected to stretch until several months, which was already short considering how some extremely complicated cases could extend for a year. It was all thanks to Liang Yuanjun’s pressure that the court worked diligently to process the case.
Months...
If Mu Yuze was already feeling like this after a few days of separation, how was he supposed to cope for months?
The more he thought about it, the more depressed he became. Returning home, he did not even bother changing out of his clothes or turning on the lights before delving into his bed-slash-nest, taking a deep inhale of the pheromones He Juan had made sure to leave behind.
Surrounded by the scent he liked the most, the loneliness in Mu Yuze’s chest intensified, and tears welled up in the corner of his eyes.
"I missed him..." he murmured to the overwhelmingly silent room. He gathered the blanket tighter around himself, trying to fool himself into thinking that it was He Juan’s warm embrace, then he closed his eyes and unknowingly drifted off to sleep.
He had no idea how long he was asleep for, until he was awakened by the beeping of his phone.
Struggling to crack his eyes open, Mu Yuze groped around the bed until he managed to locate his phone. He squinted his eyes against the bright screen before realizing that it was a text message from Kang Guanyu.
Mu Yuze chewed over the words slowly, and his eyes gradually widened. He sat upright, his heart thrashing like mad in his chest. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
[Kang Guanyu]: Oops I’m spilling this secret to you not on purpose. The security around the house might be a little lax around one to four am. I might or might not tamper with the CCTV during that time. Oops, I swear I’m not telling you this on purpose!
Mu Yuze was stunned. From one to four am?
That’s three hours!
Mu Yuze hastily checked the time and noticed that it was a little past midnight. He scrambled to get off the bed, grabbed his car key and wallet before rushing out.
[Mu Yuze]: omw
