Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 709: Two Deaths
Seeing that He Juan still hadn’t recovered his senses, Mu Yuze tentatively poked his arm, and only then did the Alpha snap out of his stupor. Squeezing Mu Yuze’s waist lightly, he guided the omega toward the couch, his gaze settling on Jia Molei.
Even though they had technically been living together for the past seven years, somehow He Juan felt like he had not seen the crimson-haired doctor for a long, long time. The images of a younger and more reckless Jia Molei overlapped with the mature and somber man before him, giving him a sense of surrealism. He still needed more time to fully digest the memories that were coming back to him bit by bit.
Jia Molei, on the other hand, was unaware that He Juan had started to regain his memories. For him, the one standing before him right now was XIU, and the reminder of their last encounter in the hospital where he forcibly injected the Golden Sand into He Juan flashed in his mind, causing his entire body to tense up.
When He Juan approached, he instinctively stood up, his gait awkward, "XIU..."
He parted his lips, ready to blurt out the apologies that had been delayed for seven long years, when He Juan abruptly stepped forward and engulfed him in a tight hug. Just like that, all the words Jia Molei was about to say became stuck in his throat.
"Thank you..." He Juan muttered softly. It was funny how seven years ago, the word he had said the most often was ’sorry’, but now it had morphed into ’thank you’. He continued, "For saving my life, for taking care of me afterwards, for being there with me when I’m lost... thank you so much, Molei."
Jia Molei gaped, his mind struggling to comprehend the sudden turn of events. "Y–Y–You..."
He Juan pulled back, a cheeky grin spreading across his face. "Yeah, my memories are slowly returning to me. Didn’t you always say that me being able to recall everything would be a miracle, Doctor Jia? Wait... are you crying?" He Juan was stumped upon seeing his reddened eyes.
"Fuck no!" Jia Molei turned his head away and forced the words out through gritted teeth, trying with all his might to prevent his tears from falling. "Why the fuck would I cry for a bastard like you? I’m not stupid!"
"O-kay," He Juan said with a teasing lilt in his tone. Catching sight of his bandaged palms, he asked in worry, "Are you okay? I’m sorry, I couldn’t do anything for you back there. Actually, what happened after that? How did you escape from the Manipulator?"
After sitting down, Jia Molei gave a brief rundown of his confrontation with Ku Jin, and how the man ended up falling into the sea of fires.
He Juan fell into a thoughtful silence. "...I see. Zhong Yun, huh?" Sensing a grip of sadness through the mate bond, he reached out to squeeze Mu Yuze’s hand, offering silent comfort and condolences. It must have been hard for Mu Yuze to lose a friend when they had just been reunited again, but it wasn’t like He Juan couldn’t understand where Zhong Yun was coming from.
To seek revenge for his lover even at the cost of his own life, perhaps that’s what he had been preparing to do since he sought out He Juan.
Nevertheless, He Juan still needed to confirm. "Did Ku Jin really die?" he asked with a touch of skepticism. "Did you find his body down there? I mean, falling from the fifth floor would be fatal for any other person, but this is him we’re talking about..."
"I understand." Jia Molei let out a mirthless scoff, "I, too, found it a little hard to believe. That son of a bitch just couldn’t be caught no matter what, so how could he meet his end so easily? But it’s been confirmed." He stated gravely, "The building had almost collapsed by the time the fire was extinguished, and from beneath the rubble, they dug out two charred corpses."
"It’s impossible to determine the DNA, but based on the location, it should be Zhong Yun and the Manipulator," Ye Qiu added.
He Juan knitted his brows. In such circumstances, it should be impossible for Ku Jin, who ought to be heavily injured, to find someone else and throw them into the fire in his stead. But once again, it was the Manipulator they were talking about – a nutjob who defied logic and reason, and could always catch you by surprise. Was it because of the strong impression Ku Jin left behind that it became difficult to believe in his death?
He was just a human, after all, not an invincible machine. There would come a day when he could no longer escape from the clutches of death.
Perhaps, his bad karma had accumulated and taken the form of Zhong Yun, who was fated to drag him to his demise.
Shaking his head, He Juan decided to set aside his doubts and focused on the matter at hand, "Then, what about Luo Xuan? The fire should have been started by him, right?"
This time, it was Sirius’ turn to speak. He sneered, "Ha... that old man who’s barely hanging on his last breath? I took care of him."
Both He Juan and Mu Yuze were utterly caught off guard by that declaration.
"You..." He Juan was rendered utterly speechless as he gazed at the young man who appeared completely different from the little boy in his memory. What did Sirius mean by that? He couldn’t have...
Ye Qiu palmed her forehead and sighed heavily, "He intercepted the ambulance that was bringing Luo Xuan to the hospital, almost causing a chain accident. I suppose that omega’s condition was worse than we initially expected. He couldn’t receive proper treatment in time and passed away on the road."
He Juan’s jaws dropped in a mixture of disbelief and astonishment. He had no idea what to address first – Sirius’ recklessness, or the fact that his enemy had perished before he could take any action. That was two deaths in a row now – Ku Jin and Luo Xuan. Could such a thing be possible?
"You..." Snapping back to his senses, He Juan chided the teenager. "That was so dangerous! What if you got into an accident?!"
Sirius glowered at him, "What kind of accident could have happened? I hadn’t even started any of my revenge plans before he died just like that! Do you have any idea how infuriating it is? Moreover, he had it coming after what he did to Marius!"
This was the first time they talked about Marius face-to-face, and they couldn’t help but become silent afterwards. He Juan parted his lips to say something, but before he could utter a word, Ye Hu burst into the living room and shouted,
"Everyone, lunch is ready!! Come and— uh," he paused upon sensing the delicate atmosphere in the air, scratching his head. "What is it? Have I come at the wrong time?"
