Chapter 678: It’s Over

"Gege..."

Despite knowing that he should never show a hint of vulnerability in front of these aroused Alphas, Mu Yuze couldn’t suppress the despairing sob that slipped out of his lips.

He had always taken pride in being stronger and tougher than average Omegas, and he had even boasted to He Juan how he could take down Alphas twice his size in a fight. But it seemed like he had overestimated himself, after all. Never before had he been driven into a desperate corner like this. The suffocating anger and helplessness he was feeling right now was unbearable. It was the kind of pain that only his true mate, his one and only Alpha, could soothe.

Alas, was there still any hope for him?

For Mu Yuze was certain that he would die the moment he was marked by someone other than He Juan. He knew it deep inside him, knew that his body would reject the mark and destroy him from within.

Unsurprisingly, at the sound of his feeble cries, the Alphas holding him down erupted into mad guffaws, their tones dripping with mockery. "Hahaha, is our little bitch calling for his Gege? Don’t worry, we can be your Geges too."

Mu Yuze found himself hyperventilating when he sensed a repulsive presence looming over him, so dangerously close to his gland. Tears blurred his vision as he struggled to gasp for breath. Alas, no matter how hard he commanded himself to move and fight back, his whole body was petrified in place, his limbs feeling like boneless jelly.

At that moment, the Alphas’ excitement reached its peak. "Don’t be afraid, bitch," the coarse voice jeered beside his ears. "Once I bite you, you will forget about that Gege of yours."

Heavy and foul breathing caressed the sensitive skin of Mu Yuze’s neck, making his skin crawl in disgust. He tried to shrink himself as much as possible, yet nothing could save him from the Alpha’s mindless desires. His mouth opened wide, canines ready to sink into the omega’s unblemished and beautiful gland...

In the next second—

Mu Yuze froze when he felt a burst of warm liquid spraying all over his back. The body above him jerked before falling forward, crushing the air out of Mu Yuze’s lungs with the suffocating weight. However, no harm came to him. He couldn’t feel any pain on his neck from the sensation of teeth sinking into his gland.

"W–Who the hell are you?!"

"No, wait—arghh!!"

Beside him, another body crashed to the ground, and this time Mu Yuze could see the Alpha writhing in pain while clutching his bleeding stomach. Blood rapidly spread and stained his clothes crimson from the tiny hole on his body.

Mu Yuze sucked in a breath as realization dawned on him. That was— a bullet wound!

In the next second, the heavy body atop him was lifted, allowing Mu Yuze to gasp for the much-needed air. The one-sided slaughter had happened so swiftly that Mu Yuze’s sluggish mind struggled to catch up. When he finally regained enough strength to turn to his head sideways, he was greeted by a scene of purgatory. Splashes of blood spilled to the ground as dead bodies scattered all over the floor, and standing amidst the carnage was Chen Youzhi, wielding a gun equipped with a silencer.

His lips were suppressed into thin lines. Unadulterated rage and disgust contorted his face, making the large scar across his face look more terrifying. Yet right now, Mu Yuze felt like he had seen an angel descending from heaven.

He was not marked. He hadn’t been marked against his will!

Finally... he could breathe properly again.

Mu Yuze was so relieved that he almost burst out into tears.

Even though the Alphas lay lifeless, Chen Youzhi continued firing his gun again and again until their bodies were riddled with holes. And he only stopped when he ran out of bullets.

"Fuck..." he muttered under his breath, slipping the empty gun back to the space behind his waist. Then, he finally turned his gaze towards Mu Yuze, who was still laying on the ground. His eyes examined Mu Yuze from head to toe, taking in the tattered shirt, bound hands, the trousers that were already partway down, and the numerous bruises all over his body...

His complexion abruptly turned a sickly hue, and to Mu Yuze’s surprise, he collapsed to the ground as if he had lost all the strength in his legs. The crash that echoed from his kneecaps colliding with the ground was so loud that Mu Yuze grimaced – it must have hurt a ton.

"Am I... too late?" he whispered, his voice tinged with regret and pain.

Mu Yuze: ?

A huge question mark loomed above Mu Yuze’s head when he heard those words. No, wait a moment... Chen Youzhi had intervened just in time and prevented the dreadful act before it could happen, so what did he mean by that? Most importantly, why was he standing so far away as if... as if he was afraid to check on Mu Yuze up close?

However, before Mu Yuze could make a sound to let the man know that he was still alive, Chen Youzhi clutched his head and murmured under his breath, his quiet yet pained voice echoing amidst the silent space,

"It’s over. This time, Boss will truly lose it. Neither I nor Doctor Jia will be able to save him for the second time—"

Unable to wait any longer, Mu Yuze opened his mouth to speak when an uncontrollable itch crawled up his throat, causing him to cough. Pain surged through his body, especially his dislocated shoulders, and he couldn’t help but whimper. In an instant, Chen Youzhi’s head snapped to him, and he scrambled to get to his feet, "O–Officer Mu!"

He extended a hand to Mu Yuze, but hesitated upon seeing the bruises on his body. "Are you okay...?"

"My hands..." Mu Yuze croaked with a hoarse voice. "Help me cut the rope and fix my shoulders."

Without a word, Chen Youzhi sprang into action. He retrieved a dagger from his boot and swiftly severed the ropes that had been torturing Mu Yuze with a single slash. Even then, Mu Yuze still couldn’t afford to move yet.

"Please excuse me," Chen Youzhi said before holding his shoulder, but Mu Yuze instinctively recoiled from the touch, startling the man.

Truth to be told, Mu Yuze was no less surprised than him. He had no idea that he would react so strongly to a single touch. "Ah, I’m sorry..." he grimaced. "Go ahead."

A pained look crossed Chen Youzhi’s face, and even though it was Mu Yuze who had his shoulders dislocated, he looked like he was the one suffering instead. He was exactly the same as Mu Yuze remembered– scary face, intimidating, yet possessed a kinder and gentler heart than most. The notion caused Mu Yuze to relax, his body acknowledging that he was now out of danger.

Chen Youzhi’s keen eyes caught the subtle shift in Mu Yuze’s expression, and without giving him time to react, he swiftly moved and realigned Mu Yuze’s left shoulder, the sound of a loud crack echoing in the tense atmosphere.

"Urgh...!"

A muffled groan escaped Mu Yuze, his face turning pale from the intense pain. When he met Chen Youzhi’s concerned eyes, he gritted his teeth and forced out, "One more."

By the time Chen Youzhi finished fixing both of his shoulders, Mu Yuze was reduced to a trembling and twitching mess. His breathing came out in ragged gasps, the rims of his eyes reddening with remnants of tears. Forcing his numb arms to move, he tidied up his appearance to the best of his ability.

"He’s here too, right?" he asked in a low voice. "Where is he now? What did you mean earlier when you said you can’t save him for the second time?"

Chen Youzhi wore a speechless look, not expecting that his mindless murmur was heard by the other person. "That..."

"Has..." Mu Yuze swallowed hard as he braced himself to ask, "Has something horrible happened to him? I mean, when he got into the accident seven years ago?"
