Chapter 450: +Chapter 450+

Angelo stepped out of his room and started down the hallway, it was strange to walk around so freely after being a prisoner his entire time here. The penthouse turned out bigger than he expected, there was a reason it covered the entire top floor of the apartment complex.

He only knew the way to the living room and the ’safe room’. Nikolai wasn’t in the living room and even if the Mafia King was in the safe room, he wasn’t about to check.

After wandering around aimlessly for a while, he turned around and made his way back to his room. Silvia could wait for one more night...

His thoughts were interrupted by the opening of one of the doors in the hallway he was walking down, there was only one other person in the apartment other than him so he quickened his pace.

"Looking for me?" Nikolai asked amicably, not at all looking surprised to see him.

"Can I make a call to Silvia?" Angelo went right to the point, it was impossible not to notice how dark Nikolai’s room was, it was like the Alpha was standing at the edge of the abyss.

Nikolai appraised him, "There’s a landline in the living room, use that." He said shortly, dipping back into the dark recesses of his room.

Despite himself, Angelo tried to make out the contents of the Mafia King’s room, curious. Why was it completely dark? Why did Nikolai hate elevators? The door closed, hiding the secrets of Nikolai’s bedroom, and Angelo had no other choice but to go to the living room.

There was a landline in the living room just like Nikolai said there would be, and if Angelo had been paying attention, he would have noticed it the first time he came around.

He dialed up Silvia’s personal number and waited, she picked up shortly, her first question a mixture of suspicion and hope.

"Angelo?"

"It’s me," He answered quietly, his guilt spiking, Silvia sounded ragged.

"You’re alive," She matched his tone.

Angelo wanted to say that was because Nikolai refused to kill him because he wanted to die but he knew that Silvia wouldn’t like him saying that so he didn’t.

"I’m just as surprised. He’s letting me go."

Angelo could hear Silvia shooting to her feet. "He is?" She asked with a mix of disbelief and excitement, "I’ll come get you right now."

Angelo winced, he knew he shouldn’t have told Silvia that, but he really couldn’t stand to hear her sound so defeated. "I-I can’t leave yet," He stumbled over his words, it was strange lying to Silvia, he had never had a reason to before.

Silvia audibly deflated, "I knew things were going too well," She muttered, "What did you have to give up to make a call to me?"

Angelo blinked, realizing that Nikolai had actually been pretty nice to him. "Nothing, yet."

He considered mentioning that his hormone inhibitors had worn off and immediately thought better of it, Silvia would come down that night and Nikolai would probably be all too happy to kick him out.

"Come right to me the moment he lets you go," Silvia said seriously, a tremble in her voice.

Angelo felt an ache in his jaw reminiscent of tears but he hadn’t cried in years. "I will." He promised solemnly.

Silvia was all he had, after all, she had raised him. Whenever anything went wrong, she was the first person he thought of, the first person he ran to.

He hung up then, returning to his room, he doubted he would be able to fall asleep but there wasn’t exactly anything else to do.

Angelo stepped into his room, closed the door behind him, and headed for the bed, he paused halfway there, something catching his eye.

There was a glass of red wine on the nightstand, it made Angelo’s expression relax into something reminiscent of a smile. He drank down the sweet wine without a second thought, getting comfortable on the bed, his eyes getting heavy.

Jael got ready for the day in a good mood, he hadn’t been excited by Asher sending him off to play babysitter to Rosie at first, but Friday had been a relaxing day.

He hadn’t gotten the chance to just kick back and relax ever since Gage left Haines, matter of fact, he had also been hard at work while the previous Mafia King was running things.

She had gotten him lunch the last time he was over at FluxCorp, so he wanted to return the favor by having the kitchen pack him lunch for two.

He thought it would be a one-time thing but Asher had been quick to put him straight on that, telling him that he would hang around Davian’s companies until the couple returned from their honeymoon.

Now Jael was elated to hear that, a whole month to watch shows and eat snacks, it was like an early vacation.

Asher had already headed out alone that morning, he didn’t have to leave as early as Asher did. By the time he made his way to the kitchen, Caspian was already there.

The Omega was like a sunflower, he brightened the space around him, his smile sparkling.

"Jael!" Caspian called to him, making his way over. "I was hoping you would come by before you leave for FluxCorp."

Jael glanced down at the beaming Omega, he was in an apron, his blonde hair a mess, his face a little too red. "Do you need me to do something?"

Caspian had successfully wormed his way into the kitchen, at first, he had hung around under the ruse that he was supervising, but he took more and more duties on himself, and the kitchen staff couldn’t turn him down.

Jael wasn’t about to dispute it, he knew that Caspian would be taking the absence of his friend very hard so whatever could distract him from that was welcome.

"I packed you lunch," Caspian informed him, looking accomplished. "Asher ran off before I could give him his, I’ll go down to his club later."

"Thank you," Jael took the offered bag, sincerity in his dark eyes.

"I also packed some lunch for Rosie, tell her I said hi."

Jael’s smile turned down a little at the edges, he hadn’t even gotten the chance to say what he came for and Caspian had already fulfilled all of his requests.

"I will," He turned around and started for the door, "See you at dinner."
