Cannon Fire Arc-Chapter 805 - 39: The Winter Offensive of 916 (8K)_5
Chapter 805: Chapter 39: The Winter Offensive of 916 (8K)_5
“Dead!” The Machine Gunner continued firing without turning back. His machine gun was already smoking, and the barrel looked like it was about to melt.
Kosolek: “I asked where the platoon leader is!”
“Next to us!”
It was then that Kosolek saw the platoon leader lying in the trench, his entire upper body covered in blood.
He took a quick step forward, completely disregarding the platoon leader’s injuries, and picked him up to leave.
After walking a few steps, his conscience kicked in, and he turned back to shout at the Machine Gunner, “Retreat! Head to the second line of defense!”
...
The Machine Gunner started yelling.
Kosolek shook his head and started running, carrying the platoon leader.
Behind him, the sound of a grenade exploding rang out, and the machine gun temporarily fell silent. However, in a few seconds, the hysterical gunfire resumed.
A few seconds later, the machine gun stopped abruptly, it was unclear whether it had finally jammed, or if the Anteans had come up and executed the crazed Machine Gunner.
It was then that Kosolek remembered that the machine gunner seemed to be from his own squad.
Was he called Pockmarked Face?
While recalling, he kept running.
At this time, the machine gun at the second defensive line started firing, Andreas must have reached his position.
The struggle on the battlefield would likely continue for a while. Kosolek didn’t head for the second line of defense but instead ran familiarly towards the field hospital.
Twenty minutes later, he burst into the hospital, straight to the operating table.
A male nurse had just moved a wounded soldier from the operating table, Kosolek threw the platoon leader onto the table: “Doctor! Look at my platoon leader!”
The military doctor took a look at the blood on the platoon leader: “So much blood, definitely no hope, get him out!”
“You didn’t even look at him!” Kosolek said.
The military doctor: “Take him away! There are so many wounded here! And the procedure is, first the aid stations at the front do the triage, then they are sent here, then I decide based on the severity of the injuries.”
Kosolek: “The front aid station is already wiped out, if I don’t go back to the front, it’ll soon be wiped out too, maybe I’ll be wiped out if I go back, but I promised this kid, I’d take good care of him!

“Doctor, are you sure you want to provoke a man who’s about to meet his death? He is already reckless!”
The doctor looked at Kosolek, sighed, reached out to feel the platoon leader’s neck: “He’s already—okay he’s still alive, but with this amount of blood loss, he probably won’t last long. According to the triage principles, he should be prioritized.
“Nurse!”
The male nurse immediately responded, “Doctor?”
“Plasma, and tourniquets, let’s see where he’s wounded.”
Kosolek breathed a sigh of relief, turned the safety on his submachine gun and took one last look at the platoon leader, then sprinted back to the battlefield.

Andreas was holding his position alone at the machine gun post, accurately targeting Anteans trying to approach.
Because of the very clever choice of position for the second defensive line, Antean artillery observers couldn’t spot Andreas, so no shells had fallen despite the long duration of fire.
The Anteans without deploying tanks would not be able to take down the second defensive line today.
But tomorrow, once their artillery observers are on the first defensive line and the telephone lines are set up, the situation might change.
Suddenly, Andreas heard footsteps behind him, stopped shooting, turned around and aimed his submachine gun at the entrance leading to the machine gun position.
The machine gun fixed on the tripod couldn’t turn to fire, so the Machine Gunner had to rely on his personal submachine gun.
This is why Andreas insisted on carrying a submachine gun despite already being heavily equipped.
The next moment, a familiar face appeared in view, Kosolek also holding a submachine gun, both startled.
“Damn, I thought the Anteans had taken you down.” Kosolek said.
Andreas didn’t bother to reply, continued to operate the machine gun.
Kosolek stepped forward to hold the ammunition belt, acting as his assistant gunner.
Finally, the Anteans assaulting the second defensive line withdrew back to the first line.
Andreas stopped firing, took a long breath, and then looked at Kosolek: “What about the platoon leader?”
“Left him with the doctor, and damn, you’re helping me fulfill the promise!”
“I didn’t ask you to keep your promise.”
Kosolek took out a cigarette: “Well, the platoon leader will go back, probably going home, he should bring some good news to my family.”
“Hope so.” Andreas also took out a cigarette, borrowed a light from Kosolek.
The two lay next to the machine gun, puffing smoke into the air.
