Chapter 65: Things are just confusing me.

Clang!

Clang!

Clang!

’’You’re pretty strong~~’’ Curtis licked his lips perversely while dancing a deadly melody along with Rocky.

The storm of crashing steel resounded everywhere. The figures of the two warriors flashed rapidly across the green forest.

One carried a type of crazy fighting style, yet strangely slippery. Curtis easily dodged Rocky’s blows while performing a series of quick encounters against him.

Meanwhile, Rocky possessed a type of calm fighting style. He was just probing the enemy as if an experienced predator was searching for the enemy’s weakness.

For that reason, Curtis looked like he had the upper hand.

Curtis’s rapier nonstop stabbed against Rocky’s hard armor, leaving a lot of long gashes.

Rocky just kept his sharp eyes on Curtis, trying to read the enemy’s movement to make the next move.

After experiencing several clashes, he could tell that Curtis’s type of combat looked like someone he knew very well.

Alina.

The blows didn’t cause any huge damage, but they were very annoying. Sometimes, he even aimed for fatal spots on Rocky’s body, but it failed – since Rocky already knew Curtis’s intention.

Combined with his lightning manipulation ability, Curtis’s movement and blows were enhanced significantly, even on par with Rocky.

(I guess it’s the advantage of tamers possessing spirit beasts.)

Rocky’s thought wasn’t wrong.

Ancient races’ spirit beasts had very high affinity with elements. Thanks to that, their beasts always had unique abilities that nobody could copy, even using pills.

Either way, pills were external and only applied to users with limited ability. Meanwhile, ancient races were capable of comprehending the elements to the maximum level.

Curtis used lightning energy to stimulate his cells—making them active and full of power. Thanks to that, he could move faster, and his reactions became sharper.

He even controlled lightning energy to accelerate the billions of electrons in his rapier, stirring them to impact each other. Finally, new kinetic energy was reborn, empowering each of his blows.

If Rocky just let his guard down for a moment, that rapier would instantly pierce through his body, even if he possessed such hard armor.

’’You’re an unworthy being to possess that flame.’’ Curtis smirked as Rocky used the flame pathetically.

It was true. After all, Rocky didn’t have any ability related to it. He just used it like holding a torch.

(It’s really important?)

Rocky chuckled as he closed in on Curtis before swinging a downward slash.

Curtis snorted as he easily dodged that blow before fighting back with a brutal stab through Rocky’s shoulder.

He instantly transferred a large lightning bolt through his rapier to destroy Rocky’s body tissue.

’’Stupid~’’

But he didn’t expect that just half a second later, Rocky grabbed the rapier tightly, not letting Curtis draw it back.

Taking the opportunity, Rocky landed an accurate, brutal gauntleted fist against Curtis’s face, shattering most of his teeth as blood spattered everywhere.

With one last movement, Rocky spun himself before delivering a kick to Curtis’s belly, sending him stumbling across the ground several times before crashing into an ancient tree.

Rocky drew the rapier out of his shoulder and tossed a few pills into his mouth. Soon, the stunned feeling across his body swiftly disappeared.

He glanced at Curtis, who, with a battered face, struggled to stand on his feet while holding his belly in pure agony.

’’You talk too much, handsome guy.’’

Rocky let out a long breath while slowly approaching Curtis. He didn’t need to hurry at this moment, because Bobby had already done his job.

He could see Bobby sitting and leaning his back against a tree 20 meters away. Beside him, three beheaded beasts lay obediently.

At this time, Curtis was nothing more than a common being.

(Time for torture.)

Rocky disabled his jet-black armor, leaving only the gauntlets.

Curtis coughed up a handful of blood, then looked up. He smirked, trying to keep his arrogant face.

’’You give up?... A human like—’’

Bam!

Rocky looked down, his eyes full of contempt.

Curtis, with a psychotic face, showed anger for the first time as he looked up.

’’D-Don’t look down on me.’’

Rocky spat and delivered a cruel kick to Curtis’s belly, making him writhe crazily. Curtis’s eyes rolled back as he curled up in pain.

’’I said... you talk too much.’’

Rocky squatted while yanking Curtis’s ponytail up. He smirked as he looked at Curtis’s battered face, yet the pride was still there.

’’Why do you want to kill me?’’ Rocky asked.

Curtis spat in disgust while glaring at Rocky. He showed his intention clearly – he had no words to say to a human.

Rocky just sighed while muttering.

’’If only Matt were here.’’

In the next moment, Rocky’s eyes gleamed brutally as he stomped on Curtis’s right leg, sending a deafening yell mixed with sobbing everywhere.

He didn’t stop. He continued to stomp the other leg, turning it into a mess of fresh flesh.

’’W-Wait... Don’t do that... AAAAAHHHHHH!’’

Tears overflowed from his eyes while Rocky ignored him and continued the torture.

’’H-HARPER... IT’S THAT BASTARD!’’

Rocky frowned while rubbing his chin. He nodded and gestured for Curtis to continue.

Curtis, with tearful eyes, groaned weakly in fear.

’’He’s my boss. He wants to kill you because you affect his business.’’

Rocky rubbed his chin for a while after hearing the word ’’business’’. In an instant, he thought of someone — the boss of a trading post. He had indeed affected that bastard’s business.

But he still didn’t understand why they needed to do something so complicated.

’’Really? ...But why do you need such a complicated plan to kill me? You could’ve just ambushed me that day.’’

Curtis groaned.

’’My boss wanted me to recruit you before deciding to kill you, so he sent me with this group to talk to you.’’

Rocky clicked his tongue in irritation.

’’So... you disobeyed.’’

Curtis stayed silent, shivering. He had never imagined he would face such a monster like Rocky here. If he had known in advance, he would have followed his boss’s order.

However, now it was too late.

’’P-Please... M-Mercy.’’

Rocky asked,

’’So you guys are involved with that thing in the abyss?’’

Curtis said with a pained face.

’’We aren’t.’’

Rocky frowned.

’’So why do you have three beasts?’’

Curtis said,

’’The other two beasts belong to my fellows. They’re in our group. I borrowed them to fight you.’’

Rocky’s frown deepened as he heard that. He asked,

’’Leon... That scum is your fellow?’’

Curtis groaned in anger as he remembered that scum bastard.

’’Absolutely not!... Luckily he died from his own pills, otherwise I would’ve killed that bastard myself... How dare that damn guy give us ruined pills. Fortunately, I had pills to handle the symptoms. If not, I couldn’t imagine what would’ve happened to me then.’’

Rocky held his head in confusion.

’’You mean this rescue journey wasn’t your idea.’’

Curtis blinked as he saw Rocky’s irritation. He answered,

’’We just joined this group randomly.’’

Rocky let out a long breath while sitting down. He looked up at the gloomy sky and wondered.

(Things are just confusing me.)
