"Shit! I’m so late, Nyx is going to kill me!" Alex exclaimed while scrambling across the room. He nearly tripped over his own feet as he yanked a sock over his right foot.

He had really overslept, and by the time he woke up, it was already nine-thirty a.m. with the meeting starting in thirty minutes. He couldn’t help but lament the fate that awaited him if he managed to come late. Nyx would literally unalive him. But the worst part was; it wasn’t entirely his fault... Or maybe it was. It was all that damn alarm’s fault. The stupid thing didn’t ring when he needed it the most.

After finally putting the damn socks on, he reached for one of his decent pairs of shoes in the house, but almost tripped himself in the process, again. His movements were too rushed, uncoordinated and just a little desperate as the reality of the situation settled heavily on his shoulders. Nyx was not the person who would buy his flimsy excuse of the alarm not working. But what made him hurry even faster was the fact that he might arrive late as the major shareholder on his very first company board meeting, which would definitely leave a bad impression on the other shareholder.

The last thing he wanted to have was a group of snobbish old people getting on his nerves, about how he was late, or how someone like him managed to become the largest shareholder?

"Why did it have to be today of all days... Couldn’t the stupid alarm have broken during something like the weekend." He muttered as he grabbed his shirt from the bed and pulled it over his head in one swift motion, barely fixing it properly before he reached for his jacket. His hair was still wet, and his face still slightly groggy from the sleep he hadn’t even fully enjoyed to his satisfaction.

Still, if there was one good thing about this morning, it was the fact that the system hadn’t mocked or teased him yet... But it looked like he spoke too soon.

So without wasting another precious second, he rushed out of his room, nearly breaking the door in the process and sprinted down the stairs, while fumbling with the stupid knot of his tie. The damn thing was really starting to get on his nerves.

As Alex took the last few steps, two at a time. He nearly slipped as his foot hit the polished floor at the bottom, but thanks to his slightly faster than normal reflexes, he quickly steadied himself by placing his hands against the wall and kept moving without slowing down. His mind was already racing with various thoughts, like how bad the situation was going to be by the time he arrived, looking like someone who had just hurriedly crawled out of bed.

... inside the taxi that he was lucky to find in time, Alex kept on checking the time that was now showing nine-forty four a.m. He calculated that with the speed the taxi was currently moving at...
