Chapter 109: You’re also a killer

A twenty-meter black and throbbing red ball slammed into him with the force of a hurricane, sending him into the wall. Immediately, Slya changed the ball into a giant spear and sent it at him, but this time he sent it back, tearing it apart with his force.

When he dug himself out of the wall, his face was ugly with anger, darkened by the fact that he had been caught by such tricks. He limped forward, his leg a bloody mess, trailing blood onto the dusty ground.

From where Slya was lying, she smiled a bloody smile at him, even that was enough to bring tears to her face.

"Oh shit... my back is a mess. This bastard basically wanted to crush me, but my shield protected me... not like it makes any difference since he’s going to crush my head... but I won’t go down easily after I just managed to become a Knight! It’s not fair!" 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

"Yes, that’s it. That’s how an assassin should look. Anger with the intent to kill. Don’t hide your bloodlust under some guise of humility," Slya said.

"You’re a killer too," Kae said. He lifted his hammer above her head once again, his force covering him like a smug blanket. "Besides, I already told you I’ll die... and kill for what I believe in."

He sent his hammer down, but he suddenly pushed it forward instead, sending a blasting, ripping force to intercept a red arc that resisted him a little before it was smashed away.

Kae scowled. "Just what are you doing, Ryker?"

Ryker stared at him in bafflement. He opened his mouth to explain how he’d been chasing someone, but before he could say anything, the darkness between them thickened as Tiber rose up.

Most of his hands had been broken and mangled, and his regeneration had slowed down considerably. Even the dark cloak he wore was tattered.

His face had been smashed in, but his eyes just grew around it. "Slya? You’re in an even sorrier state than I am! You got yourself beat up."

The moment of distraction didn’t slip by her as she made spears grow around her, but Kae was well-prepared this time and jumped away by sending his blasting force out.

"Get away from him, Tiber. He’ll crush you like a pulp," she warned.

"I’ll just grow back," Tiber said, his eyes shifting between the many people around.

To the front was Kae, and to the back were Ryker and Aria. And of the three assassins, only Kae had any wounds that might be considered significant.

The only reason Tiber had lasted this long was because his nightmare form was particularly lucky for him. With his regeneration and changing form, he’d been on the defensive the entire time, darting around so far.

’They’re far stronger than us... just where is he?’

Tiber smiled and narrowed his eyes on Kae. "Maybe I can deal with him."

Slya didn’t get the chance to object as Tiber flew at Kae like a bat, his tattered cloak flapping behind him.

He gestured, and suddenly, Tiber was drawn even closer, jerked forward by a force not under his command. He didn’t try to resist, and when he got close, Kae tried to blast him back, but Tiber wasn’t blasted back.

His force had been corrupted by a black substance, like ink creeping on paper. It spread rapidly. Kae flinched and cut the essence of his technique.

But herein lay the problem, Tiber was still coming at him at high speed! With no time to reactivate his technique just to confirm if the corruption was still there, he could only lift his hammer and swing it.

Tiber gladly took the blow to the chest, not minding when it crushed him. The little energy he had left could still be directed at healing. But he grinned.

Because all of this was just to get close. Now, Tiber was directly in front of Kae, and he opened his mouth and bit him on the cheek.

It was the last thing Kae expected. He recoiled and stared down at Tiber in absolute shock.

Tiber grinned at him, coughing black blood. He had energy for little else.

"What the...?"

"Hey, what’s that?" Ryker said. He pointed at Kae’s face, where blackness was spreading on his flesh like spiderwebs. His veins were imprinted in the same black, all starting from the bite wound that Tiber had given him.

Kae also felt that something was wrong. He didn’t feel any pain on his cheek, it felt numb. He tried to control it, but it seemed to be out of his grasp. His muscles twitched entirely, not by his own volition.

A chill ran down his spine.

"What have you done?" he asked, his eyes reflecting panic.

Tiber hiccupped a laugh. "I’m turning you into one of my corrupted!"

Kae’s eyes darkened, and he pointed his hammer. "Stop this now!"

Tiber shook his head and said simply, "I have no reason to... AhHHhhAhhH!"

Kae lifted his hammer and immediately broke Tiber’s leg, shattering it completely at the knee. He lifted it again to do the same to the other one, but darkness surged around Tiber and Slya, turning into a shield of thickly layered black and red.

Kae pounded on it with his hammer, but it didn’t budge. Slya had used the rest of her power.

Kae, Aria, and Ryker tried as well, but it was like trying to move a mountain. Eventually, they would break through, maybe in a few minutes but not before they lost Kae.

They tried bargaining. But... unfortunately, Tiber and Slya had passed out from the stress on their bodies.

Suddenly, Kae turned to Aria. His face was now bloated and black, with his lips twitching uncontrollably. He tried opening his mouth several times before he finally said:

"Ahh... Aria... you... can... cause... explosions...!"

The girl looked at him with bright eyes. "That’s right."

"Thh... then..."

"Then what? I should explode the shield? I refuse."

"Whaaa...?"

Suddenly, something red passed through his neck, and Kae’s head spun through the air. It hit the ground and splattered. His squashed brain was already showing signs of darkness. His body followed, hitting the ground with a thud.

Ryker shook the blood from his sword. "Alright then. Let’s finish up here."
